The Holy Spirit:The Missing Ingredient

1 Corinthians 1:26-31 (NKJV)

[26] For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. [27] But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; [28] and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen,

and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, [29] that no flesh should glory in His presence. [30] But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and

righteousness and sanctification and redemption— [31] that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.

In Ourselves, We Are Nothing.

Galatians 6:3 (NKJV)

[3] For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

In Ourselves, We Know Nothing.

1 Corinthians 8:2 (NKJV)

[2] And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.

In Ourselves, We Can Do Nothing.

John 15:5 (NKJV)

[5] “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

In Ourselves, We Have Nothing.

1 Corinthians 4:7 (NKJV)

[7] For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you

had not received it?

Galatians 2:20 (NKJV)

[20] “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live,

but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who

loved me and gave Himself for me.

Galatians 5:24-25 (NKJV)

[24] And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. [25] If we live in the Spirit, let us also

walk in the Spirit.

Romans 6:1-2 (NKJV)

[1] What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may

abound? [2] Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer

in it?

Romans 6:5-7 (NKJV)

[5] For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, [6] knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. [7] For he who has died has been freed from sin.

Romans 6:11-14 (NKJV)

[11] Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. [12]

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. [13] And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but

present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. [14] For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not

under law but under grace.

Ephesians 4:20-24 (NKJV)

[20] But you have not so learned Christ, [21] if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: [22] that you put off, concerning

your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, [23] and be

renewed in the spirit of your mind, [24] and that you put on the new man which was created according to

God, in true righteousness and holiness.

Colossians 3:5-10 (NKJV)

[5] Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. [6] Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, [7] in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. [8] But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. [9] Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, [10] and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,

John5:19-20 (NIV)

[19] Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also

does. [20] For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, to your amazement

he will show him even greater things than these.

John 5:30 (KJV)

[30] I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own

will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

John 7:14-18 (NKJV)

[14] Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught. [15] And the Jews marveled, saying, “How does this Man know letters, having never studied?” [16] Jesus answered them and said, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. [17] “If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. [18] “He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.

John 8:54 (NIV)[54] Jesus replied, “If I glorify myself, my

glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies

me.

Galatians 2:20 (NIV)

[20] I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and

gave himself for me.

Notice something:

1. The Glory: The Manifest Presence & Power of God

2. The Holy Spirit: The Presence & Power of God.

a. John 14, 16 - The Presence.

14:16 - Comforter / Counselor to be with us forever.14:17 - You will know him

- He lives with you and will be in you.14:18 - I will not leave you as orphans16:7 - The Holy Spirit will come to us16:13 - He will guide you and speak to you16:14 - He will Glorify Jesus by doing vs. 13

b. Acts 1:8 - The Power.

1:8 - You will receive POWER when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses (martyrs).......”

In Acts 2:4, it all came together: Now we carry the Glory via the Holy Spirit. It’s in us, with us, on us waiting to manifest in us, to us, and through us.

rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.

Romans 8:12-18 (NIV)[12] Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. [13] For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, [14] because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. [15] For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” [16] The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. [17] Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. [18] I consider that our

present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
