We know many of the people who are in the pews, we know the people in our community, and we know who is not here. When we look around at the people who come on Sunday, we should not think of them as a group of random people who showed up this week but as our family. A parish family. Just like any other family we have our challenges, disagreements, and sometimes fights. This is all part of our parish family experience. We need the voices that challenge. We also need the voices that comfort and console. We need people who want things to change, and those who keep an even keel. This wide variety of people are our parish family will also help each one of us to grow and develop in our faith lives. Do not be saddened by the conflict and problems. Be joyful! This is part of being a parish family. We must also recognize that our family extends beyond the walls of our churches. I really enjoy visiting other churches and celebrating Mass with them. Every time I visit a new church I am amazed to realize that these people too are part of my parish family. They are part of the Church and the body of believers who make up the Church. Now for the challenge. (drum roll, please) Every so often sit in a new location in the church. Why? We are creatures of habit and have grown accustomed to sitting in the same spot with the same people. Do you have to do this every week? No. Every so often. This will help you to see new perspective, meet new people, and reach out to those you may have not gotten a chance to formally meet. Try it. Remember, we are one parish family. Everyone is important. Fr. Cody

The Holy Family Challenge

Look around you (this assumes that you are in church and reading this before Mass. If not, next time you are…). Who do you see? A bunch of random people? Hopefully, no. One of my joys with working with our small communities is that they are rather close nit. We know many of the people who are in the pews, we know the people in our community, and we know who is not here.

When we look around at the people who come on Sunday, we should not think of them as a group of

random people who showed up this week but as our family. End of Year Charitable Giving:

Will you be making charitable contributions at the end of the year as part of your tax planning? There are ways to structure gifts that will help our parish and save you taxes at the same time - such as the Montana Endowment Tax Credit, charitable rollover from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA), and transferring appreciated stocks/bonds/mutual funds.

These gifting options can provide you tax savings even if you no longer itemize under the new federal tax reform. Your gift can be designated to support our parish, the diocese, or even a specific ministry.

The Foundation for the Diocese of Helena, Inc. can help you navigate these tax-saving stewardship opportunities. Please contact Foundation Executive Director Jeanne Saarinen at (406) 389-7051 or [email protected] for assistance. Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

$1000 Scholarship

Available, named in memory of the deceased priests of the Diocese of Helena. The recipient is chosen by our parish and

must be a student planning to attend Carroll for the first time in the fall of 2019. If you are interested contact the parish office @ 626-4492 for an application. Please note that the student should send the completed application to the Parish no later than March 1, 2019

(St. John's Parishioner)

PRAYER FOR A NEW BISHOP O great St. Helena, patroness of our diocese, who for love of Our Lord made pilgrimage to the Holy Land to mark the sites of His Pascal Mystery, grant, I pray, that you would intercede to the Father on behalf of our Diocesan Church as we await the appointment of our next bishop. Grant that we

will be sent a spiritual shepherd after the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for us, His sheep. Pray to God that we will be given a bishop who is faith-ful and just, holy and wise, loving and zealous. May he be com-pletely devoted to the Lord and to the service of the people en-trusted to his care, so that the Diocese of Helena may experi-ence a springtime of growth in holiness and the number of souls drawn to the Lord through His Church. Amen
