"The purpose of Western Hills United Methodist Church is to continue the ministry of Jesus by making disciples throughout faith, hope, and love." Every Sunday, the purpose of WHUMC is printed on our bulletin. Sometimes we wonder what that definition of purpose really means. Last Sunday was a very excited time for me (withstanding the trouble with our sound system) because part of our 'purpose' happened when Kenneth Holley, the son of one of our members, came forward to dedicate his life again to Jesus Christ. When we open our doors to our community, the hope has always been to invite others from our community to come in and experience a relationship with Christ. This happens when the people inside express the faith, hope and love that we have experienced through our relationships with each other and our relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ. We connect with people in various ways. We are a part of Western Hills community and this church has taken up its community partnership by being involved in this community. We have a group of faithful members that keep the food pantry open Tuesdays and Thursdays providing a very much needed service. The food pantry exists on donations only and it has been open for a very long time. That says a lot about our congregation. The people of this congregation cares about its community. Many of our members take part in helping to provide a place where people come knowing that this is a place for help. A large part of that feeling has to do with the dedication of the men and women of our church who provide the upkeep for the property. The appearance of a church property will always be important so people will know that the congregation of a church cares about being inviting to the community. We have many people who come to our church during the week and they witness the love of God that our congregation presents to our community. We are less then a month away from school starting again. This means more opportunities to be involved in the church and community. School starts on August 22nd for our children around our community of faith so we are collecting school supplies for the children across the street. Rev. Sammie Ellis called us to respond to a need at the United Community Centers of paper products. I know you might say “which one do I want to support?” I hope you say “how can I support both?” Both of these needs are very important and affects the lives of many children in the Fort Worth area. Just let the office know which items belong to the specific ministry when you drop them off. I have just touched the surface of what goes on at Western Hills UMC daily. There are many opportunities for people to show their love of God and neighbors by becoming involved at our church. Please prayerfully consider what God has called you to do and take up the cross that calls to you. God calls each of us to go forth into the world and make a difference. I pray each of us answers the calling God sends us and goes forth. Terry

W.H.Y?

Hey youth. I am going to be at Church Camp in Illinois next week, so no youth on Sunday. The next time we will get together is at Western Hills Youth Camp starting Monday, August 8th, at 10:00 am. Here’s the schedule. Monday, August 8th—Meet at the church at 10:00. We will proceed to Gail Donley’s home until 2:00, when we will be back at the church. At Gail’s, we will work on an art project, making a representation of ourselves and our personal commitment to W.H.Y? that we will then use to decorate the walls of our new youth room. Then a great lunch and swimming in Gail’s above ground pool. (We’ll have a lot of sunscreen). Tuesday, August 9th—Meet at the church at 10:00. Paint the picnic tables in the re-designated Youth Pavilion and pull weeds in the Playground area to prepare it to receive the new swings donated by Jeanine Robinson and Mike Elrod. Again, lunch, and a sprinkler for cool relief. Wednesday, August 10th—See August 8th Thursday, August 11th—See August 8th, but substitute “finish” for “work on”. Friday, August 12th—Meet at the church at 10:00. Go to Mineral Wells State park for a 2 night Youth Retreat. Return on Sunday afternoon. Stay tuned. Updates expected. Sincerely, Amy R. Bailey Youth Director

Alzheimer's/Dementia Support Group

The first meeting will be at the church on Thursday, August 4th at 7:00 pm. It is open to

caregivers and anyone. The topic for this meeting is "Changes in the Five Senses." If

you know of someone who might benefit from this group, please share this information

with them.
