Happy Birthday Church!

On 8th June the church celebrates its third major festi-

val of the church’s calendar – Pentecost. Pentecost

often becomes the forgotten festival and yet it holds

equal significance for the Christian Church as do the

other celebrations of Christmas and Easter. At Christ-

mas we focus on the love of God the Father for us in

sending Jesus to live among humankind, at Easter we

focus on the love of Jesus for us in being prepared to

lay down his life for us, then overcoming the power of

death and proving he has done so through the resurrec-

tion. Pentecost, or Whit Sunday to give a traditional

name, celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit to the

believers, which marks the start of a new way of

knowing the Father and the Son.

The Holy Spirit is given to the church, to live in our

hearts and among those who believe, to make Jesus

and the Father known to us. It is through the activity of

Holy Spirit that the events of Christmas and Easter

become relevant in our lives, making a difference to

how we live and how we relate to God. The Holy

Spirit also equips us as individuals and as a church to

carry out the purposes of the Kingdom of God. With

the Holy Spirit the potential for us and for the church

is multiplied far beyond our human limitations and

abilities. As we welcome Holy Spirit and learn to co-

operate with his work among us we shall experience

exciting new life with Jesus.

So let’s celebrate the birth of the church that we are

part of this Pentecost and welcome the Holy Spirit

among us.

Happy Pentecost.

Food Banks

During our Lent meetings we heard from Lynn Mar-

tin about the Lutterworth Foodbank. Foodbanks

have been in the news quite a bit just recently. There

are a number of them springing up all over the

place. There has been one in Market Harborough for

some time and since January this year there has

been one in Lutterworth run by volunteers through

the parish church and supported by the Council and

many of the churches around the area. The idea is

that people, businesses or individuals, donate food

which is then given out to people are in crisis. In

order to receive help people have to be referred by

someone who has been authorised by the Foodbank

to make referrals. This includes a variety of differ-

ent professional people and here in the Hexagon

includes me. So should you find yourself in a time

of crisis, with no food or means to get some then it

is worth contacting me. The Foodbank issues up to

three days of food for each person in the household

in any one emergency, the hope being that within

those three days the crisis will be resolved. They

will also point people in the direction of other ser-

vices that can help them.

One way of supporting this work is to give food to

the foodbank, and each church has a collecting box

for any who would like to contribute in this way –

see the individual villagepages for the location of

the box, if a place is not specified then it will be in

the church. The Foodbank is not able to use fresh,

frozen, out of date or damaged items, but will hap-

pily receive tinned foods, biscuits, packet or dried

foods, UHT milk and long life juices, jams, toilet-

ries etc. The gifts will be passed on to the Foodbank

on a monthly basis and stored in their warehouse

until needed. It is sad that in this day and age such a

service is necessary, but as it is, let’s

do what we can to support it.

MARRIAGE

A prayer for all married couples

God of all grace, friend and companion, look in fa-vour on all who are made one in marriage. In your love deepen their love and strengthen their wills to keep the promises they have made, that they may continue in life-long faithfulness to each other through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen

Midweek Communion Service in Husbands Bosworth: The Wednesday midweek communion is held at All Saints Church, Husbands Bosworth on Wednes-days at 9:15am All are welcome.

The Return of Services at Knaptoft

The month of June sees the services at Knaptoft recommence – as usual these will take place at 3pm on the third Sun-

days of June, July, August and September. The first being on Sunday 15th June The services are once again being

organized by the Friends of Knaptoft under the leadership of Dennis McQuone.

Dennis has been poorly recently so we pray he will know improved health and strength in the coming weeks and

months.

Adaptation of Hexagon Services

The ‘eagle-eyed’ among you may have noticed that we have one less Lay Reader’s details on the front page. This

month has seen us saying thank you and farewell to David Palmer who has been serving in the Hexagon for the last

two and a half years as a Reader, first during his training and for the last year and a half as a licensed Reader. David

moves on to pioneer a new prayer initiative with the Churches Together in Market Harborough, and if that is where

you shop, there is a good chance you will bump into him again from time to time. The double effect of David’s depar-

ture and the on-going illness of John Raven has meant that we have had to adapt our services so if you are plan-

ning to come to a service do check the rota on the back page to check what is happening when and where.

Do also, please pray for David, his wife Marie and son Simon, as he moves into this new project. Also, please

continue to pray for John Raven that he will come through his treatment well and regain his strength and health.

Have you ever thought about taking up watercolour painting as a hobby? It is one of the art disciplines

which needs to be taught…it is so technique-driven. Have a look at Peter Welton’s website

www.peterwelton.com and see if you fancy learning to paint like him. If you do, contact him through the website and book a day course with him. His technique is known in the Art World as Weltonsway and he claims he can teach it to anybody who keenly wants to know. Email: [email protected]

Bruntingthorpe in 1863 -John & Henry Clarke esqs, were Lords of the Manor, however the greater part of the land was owned

by John Curzon of Derby, Rev .Freeman & Mr John Seal .

The poor parishioners occupied about 24 acres in spade husbandry. The Church (St. Nicholas) as it was then, had had the chancel

repaired which contains an altar-piece representing Christ being taken down from the cross, painted by Rev. Thomas Freeman, the

late rector who passed away in 1834 . The Parish feast was on the Sunday after 6th December. There was also a ‘sick’ club in the

village… (make of that what you will) ?

THE ANNUAL BRUNTINGTHORPE FETE The annual Bruntingthorpe Fete takes place at its new venue of the football field opposite The Plough pub on Saturday 14th June

commencing at 2pm. The Lutterworth Town Band will once again be entertaining visitors but this year we are hoping to have an

increased number of attractions, including games for all ages, and a BBQ.

I am looking for help in running these so please contact me if you are able to assist in any way. Even better - if you have an idea for

either a game or a stall, please don't be shy in coming forward - I would love to hear from you!
