Summary
Persephone gets kidnapped by Hades to become his wife and while in the
underworld she realizes that theres need to be a balance of life and death for the
world to function. When Demeter rescues her she eats four pomegranate seeds
causing her to stay in the underworld for four months....and that is why we have
four seasons.
CONTEXT
The story is based on greek mythology. Persephone was the goddess of flowers in spring. and Demeter is the Goddess of Earth, agriculture and fertility. Hades
is the God of the Underworld. Ik
Transformation
Persephone transforms from a sweet girl used to sunshine and spring to an mature wife in the
Underworld
"Demeter looked at her daughter and so not the child she had lost, but a young woman who had tasted the
fruit of both life and death."
Separation Persephone's known world: spring, sunshine, green
grass, flowers, etc.
The Call: "I sense that there is more for me to know and understand. I can't explain."
Threshold: Persephone picks the the flower, the hole in the ground opens and Hades takes her to the
underworld.
Threshold guardian: Demeter her mother...she keep her from seeing the other side of the world.
Initiation
Challenges: she doesn't get fed, lonely, and afraid
Temptations: eating the pomegranate seeds, insensitive towards Hades.
Mentor: Hades teaches Persephone that life needs death and that there needs to be balance in everything. He guides her.

Return Revelation: She could live in light and darkness
Transformation: from a girl to a woman, becoming queen of the Underworld

Underworld, and she had to respect her daughters choices, knowing that she had grown up and could fend for herself and make her own decisions.
