We started March with changing our clocks ahead to daylight savings time and we haven’t been the same since. I have learned something about a human need this month that I didn’t know about: No. 1 needed item in a pandemic over food, water or medicine is toilet paper. If there is a line in front of the store even in the rain-they have it, and if there is no line-they don’t. Who knew this? Early in March prior to our total lockdown we had a Board meeting to discuss chapter business and committee updates (minutes includ- ed in this newsletter). The meeting was held the day after the MPI committee had just made the difficult decision to postpone one of our chapters biggest events. The organizers went back and forth all week, took in many opinions, checked health alerts (at that time) and then finally made the decision to reschedule it. With an event that takes a year in the planning-having to reschedule after every detail has been carefully thought out, it’s sad to unravel the pieces you so carefully put together like a puzzle. Knowing what we know now-it was the right thing to do. Thank you, Charlotte and Ramona, and the MPI committee for all your efforts and giving our members health considerations your highest priority. Our chapters current situation per the beginning of April is the fol- lowing: March MPI was postponed and is being rescheduled to a new date in mid-summer. The Chapter meeting with the members scheduled for April is being moved to a future date. The April class with Cindy Smith is being rescheduled to a fu- ture date. We are hoping there will be no more changes to our calendar and we will keep you informed either through the newsletter or Leslie’s blast emails if any classes beyond April get affected. Rescheduling of the classes and events is dependent on teacher and mobile home park availability. We may double up classes some months to catch up with our calendar or extend the calendar time- line. The program folks, Linda and Debi, will give you the latest details on the newly rescheduled dates. PRESIDENT’SMESSAGE

I hope this newsletter finds you all safe and first of all - in good health for you and your family. Early in March prior to our total lockdown we had a Board meeting to discuss chapter business and committee updates (minutes includ-ed in this newsletter). Our chapters current situation per the beginning of April is the fol-lowing: March MPI was postponed and is being rescheduled to a new

date in mid-summer. The Chapter meeting with the members scheduled for April is

being moved to a future date. The April class with Cindy Smith is being rescheduled to a fu-

NEWS from 1st Vice Presidents (Programs) Well!!!! Even though we are all experiencing a new (temporary) reality, programs info must go on. At this time, we are on hold for all classes. The community room is locked until the crisis passes, how long that takes is an-yone’s guess. We will plan a new calendar when dates are available and are planning on doubling up on some months depending on the teacher’s schedule. Keep reading the newsletter for updates. Seminar is still on so far, so if you want to sign up, send your money to Debi to secure your spot. So, what can you do during this time? How about painting a donation for seminar, or the Christmas party? Check out your favorite artist, many are posting lessons on-line, check out Ericka Joanne for a fun project. The most important thing to do is stay HOME and safe. I have gotten so many projects going now I will need a vacation when this is over. Linda

Seminar News: The projects have been selected, a small Red and White Os-styled Trunk and a Fall-themed Pitcher for the Rosemary West seminar in August, the cost is $50 each day. Programs has ordered the Os box for Sunday’s red and white box at a cost of $30. There is a limited number of boxes so please buy yours ASAP. You may of course use any surface for either of these projects.

Space is going fast so please be sure to sign-up and pay for one or both of the classes. You are not in the class until paid. Also, please help me with raffles for this event, any donations will be very helpful…...Linda Linda Silvasy & Debi Stivers

Meanwhile, the MPI committee wants to share the following important details with you:

Members Keeping Busy! In liew of Paint-in Photos, members have submitted photos of how they are staying

busy during the Coronavirus “Shelter-in-Place”..

LinHendersonhas just inished the last coat of varnish on a magni icent Jo Sonja project—- “O’Hare’s Garden”. She really enjoyed this labor of love just in time for Easter. She wrote a dedication to irst responders and medical workers on the bot-tom.

SusanSchoeppnerhas inished a beautiful oval box adaptation of Linda’s Sharp’s recent class in Las Ve-gas, which was a tray. Linda Sharp was so impressed by the box that she asked to put the photo on her website. Kudos to Susan!

From CynthiaMegill: This is a piece that was started by our own Sue Bond years ago. I inished up the top for donation to the raf le at some point. I’m happy with the re-sults. Now working on the pieces I missed at the CRA convention last October. Keep painting!!

From LoreanWeng: My family is doing ine and staying at home. The attached Orchid painting is one I painted last Satur-day. I’m toying with the idea of starting up a zoom class but we’ll see. I’m working full time at home and this week is week 2 of working at home. Be well...

From KennaPerrin: So glad I got to convention. Gnomes are Jamie Mills- Price packets and the oil place is start of a Cheri Rol packet. Painting is keeping me home and sane.

From JeanneRobertI’ve been busy blanket joining for charity. The painted piece was with the fabulous Karen Brouwer at our annual Julian retreat early March

From MerleAvery:

Alden and and are are cocooning ine. The dining room is closed but

the wait staff kids bring us 3 meals a day.

Since we inished working on Mys-tery Paint In about the time the world shut down I am working on making cards for my Over 90 birth-day people for church. And got out the rainbow bargello quilt that I started a month ago. Doing it in sections so I can quilt it on my ma-chine and am now at the point of putting the sections together. The backing is the red minky fabric--the soft, silky fabric with which I have backed several baby quilts. Then I HAVE to inish the wedding gift for our Grand kids so I can enter it in the Del Mar Fair and then send to them for their irst wedding anni-versary.

Other than that it's going down to the Big House to get the daily mail, puttering doing non essential things and taking all day to do nothing. I hope all is well with all of you and are staying creatively safe.

From LesliePilcher: I got on the bandwagon mak-ing masks for healthcare workers. And I’m taking a bunch of online classes. Took a break on St. Pat-rick’s Day for a quick painting project.

From CarolVoyles: Finished not one but three LInda Sharp pieces from the Las Vegas convention. To keep busy at home, trying to see how many TP rolls I can balance on her pieces.

From LindaCamp: Hello from Ramona! Wish I could say I've been happily in-ishing up my "UFO's" these past couple weeks, and send beautiful pictures of all my accomplishments --- but noooooo, that's not been the case. :( I realized I am having a lot of problems staying "focused" these days, and do better being a little more physically active. But my husband Dan & myself are hanging in there, and have been doing some gardening and a LOT of pulling weeds these past few weeks, in between those rain showers!! With the majority of my family back in Pennsylvania, and my 90-year-old Mom dealing with some very serious health issues, each day is illed with a lot of phone calls to check in on everyone. It's amazing how much time can be spent on the phone in one day, yikes. And last but not least, our 2 fur-babies, "Cookie & Kona" are enjoying the fact we are both home so much these days!! (Kona is the Sheltie, and Cookie is the brown pooch!) Anyway, hope it won't be too long before we are all enjoying a fun paint-in again, and holding some exciting raf les, too --- I HAVE been doing a little online shopping for raf le prize goodies, so that is still something for which I am planning! Now if I could JUST start the painting, too.... So bye for now, and sending "stay well" wishes to all of the PHP gang & their loved ones! Love & hugs to all!! ---- Linda Camp :)

LindaSilvasyis work-ing on her colored pencil ot-ter and a tray for seminar.

From SandyLonnecker:Such a good idea and I just inished this project today. A friend asked if I could paint butter lies for an anni-versary gift for his wife. She is into butter lies and every year he tries to ind something with butter lies on it

where the number of butter lies equals the anniver-sary year. This year is the 21st and he was having a hard time inding something with 21 butter lies. He came up with a 2 inch thick cross-section of a maple beryl and he will make it be a table top for a small ta-ble. Attached are 4 photos, one of the whole table top and 3 close-ups.

From DawnReinhardt:Hello all, I'm inally reading my Oprah magazines, paint-ing from the internet, cleaning out my emails, watching my ingernails grow!....Dawn

From KarenOrtman: This one (left)is a work in progress. I thought I was done. But after a day, I saw issues. Back to the paint table. This is the terrible set up (rightphoto)!!Had to have some-thing….. [Oh,Karen,it’sgorgeous!!]

From MarilynWinder: I just inished my Maxine Thomas summer panel for my calendar! I made a few changes but I do love her stuff! Stay healthy!

Here cometh April again, and as far as I can see the world hath more fools in it than ever said Charles Lamb. an English essayist, poet, and antiquarian, best known for his Essays of Elia and for the children's book Tales from Shake-speare. Why are people so tired on April 1st? Because they just finished a 31-day March. It certainly feels like this March has been the longest month in a very long time. But April is a promise that May is bound to keep. We can only hope as we recover from a history making coronavirus pandemic. April Fool’s Day falls on a Wednesday this year. Good Friday is April 10 and Easter is April 12. April 22 is Earth Day. Not a lot of silly holidays in April but there are some historical moments in the month of April: America’s first astronauts were announced by NASA on April 9, 1959. The first Webster Dictionary was copyrighted by Noah Webster on April 14, 1828. The Titanic sank on April 15, 1912. The Revolutionary War in America began on April 19, 1775. The United States Library of Congress was established April 24, 1800. Our first President George Washington was inaugurated on April 30, 1789. Mary Weflen shares her April 7 birthday with Jackie Chan, Russell Crowe, Francis Ford Coppola and James Garner. Anita Lane shares her April 12 birthday with Claire Danes, Tom Clancy and David Letterman.

Karen Ortman shares her April 17 birthday with Victoria Beck-ham, Jennifer Garner and Redman the rapper. Rama Shotwell shares her April 27 birthday with Ulysses S. Grant and Coretta Scott King. Debi Stivers shares her April 28 birthday with Penelope Cruz, Jay Leno, Ferruccio Lamborghini and Drew and Jonathan Scott of the tv show Property Brothers. Jean Cooke shares her April 29 birthday with Uma Thurman, Michelle Pfeiffer (62 years old this year!) Willie Nelson who will be 87 years old, and Duke Ellington. Sunshine

As we get another year older in 2020, we may find our bodies not cooperating like we wish. When I go to the doctor they always ask, “have you fallen in the past year? How many times?” Falling is a big risk for us “seniors”. So we end up with bruises and maybe stitches or even have to have surgery to repair broken bones. If you know someone in the chapter who is in need of some cheering up, either from falling or an illness, please call me (858-576-7163 – leave a message but no texts to this landline) or send me an email ([email protected]) and I will send them a card on behalf of chapter —- Jeanne Robert

Date of next Board Meeting is open. Motion to Adjourn made by Carol Voyles, Seconded by Ramona Jacobs. Meeting adjourned at 11:46 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Linda Eastom, Secretary

TipsfromLasVegasConventionTeachers: From LindaSharp: To paint a straight line border, place a piece of blue tape or scotch tape along one edge of your line. Then paint the line evenly against the tape. The tiny thickness of the tape will keep your brush from wobbling. From JamieMills‐Price: When you are loating, con-trol your brush moisture with the heel of the brush (water end). Put a small water puddle on your pal-ette. When your brush is dry, dip the heel of the brush into the puddle and blend on palette. If the brush has too much water in it, pinch the heel of the brush to remove the excess.
