Meet the SpeakersALUN JAMESAlun James is a barrister specialising in all areas of tax and VAT. He has been advising owner-managed businesses and their owners on all aspects of their business and personal tax planning for over 20 years. He has been co-author of Bramwell on Taxation of Companies and Company Reconstructions (Sweet & Maxwell) since 1991. As well as his Chambers at Temple Tax Chambers, Alun is also a member of Exchange Chambers, Liverpool and Manchester.

PETE MILLER Pete formed The Miller Partnership in April 2011 to offer expert advice to other advisers on all business tax issues. Apart from the transactions in securities rules, specialist areas include reorganisations, reconstructions, HMRC clearances, disguised remuneration, the new Patent Box relief and taxation of intangible assets. Pete has worked in tax for over 25 years, starting as an Inspector of Taxes in 1988 and staying for nearly 10 years, working in Birmingham and London before posts in Policy Division and Technical Division. He then worked for 11 years in ‘Big 4’ firms.Pete speaks and writes regularly on tax issues and is a member of the editorial boards of Taxation, The Tax Journal and Simon’s Taxes and a consulting editor to TolleyGuidance. He is co-author of Taxation of Company Reorganisations (4th edition, Bloomsbury Professional, June 2012) and author of Tolley’s Tax Digests on Disguised Remuneration, the Substantial Shareholdings Exemption and Transactions in Securities.

DEBORAH CLARKDeborah Clark is a barrister and partner at law firm Mills & Reeve. Deborah specialises in estate planning for private clients, advising on all aspects of inheritance tax, capital gains tax, trusts, wills and LPAs. Deborah has a national reputation for her work on using family investment companies in estate planning and she is a regular speaker on the topic.

PHILIP RIDGWAYPhilip Ridgway has a broad commercial experience having previously worked in a firm of solicitors and been a tax partner for 8 years at Deloitte. He advises on all areas of Revenue Law. Philip is the co author of Butterworths Tax Indemnities and Warranties.

ANDREW FACERAndrew Facer is a partner and head of private client at Ward Hadaway, a leading law firm with offices across the North of England. Andrew specialises in a range of private client matters including wills, business succession planning, trust creation and estate and capital tax planning. Andrew is also a member of STEP.

MICHAEL THOMASMichael advises and litigates in relation to all areas of the UK tax code. His practice covers business tax, private client work and VAT. He has particular interest in property tax and has been involved in some of the UK’s largest real estate transactions and development projects.

We are not able to issue a VAT invoice until we receive full payment and we must receive both a completed booking form and payment by 28th March to qualify for the reduced fee.
