our prayer the same way. Youprobably know very little aboutthe people you are praying or,and so may not know what topray. We suggest praying throughthe passages you read each day.

As we encounter God saving his

people, pray in praise to God, andpray that he would save others.As we hear o Pauls wishes thatmore would teach the Bible, praythat teachers would be raisedup to reach these people. Aswe encounter stories o Paulsaection or his ellow workers,

pray or our ellow workers, thosewho are serving, have served,and will serve. God speaks tous through his word the Bible.Lets adopt prayers that mimic hiswords, and his will.

We are about to spend 33 dayspraying or people we probablydont know. Lets take a deepbreath and take a step back andremember those around us who donot know Christ are also in need oour regular prayer.

The Balanta Mane live mainly innorth Guinea-Bissau. They arerelated to other Balanta peoples

and live side-by-side with them,but have been introduced to Islamby the Mandinkas. They havetheir own Balanta Mane languageand do not speak the relatedBalanta Kentohe language. In thetowns they would understandand speak Creole and maybe

some Kentohe, but in the villagesBalanta Mane is needed.

They live a simple and poorliestyle and raise cattle.

Praise God or the manyChristians in Ghana. Lets keeppraying or those groups waiting

or salvation. One such animisticgroup is the Mamprusi. Over185,000 people belong to thisgroup and live mainly in thenorth east in their homeland,Mamprugu.

Two-thirds o marriages are

polygamous. Children are givenboth Mamprusi and Muslimnames, and are circumcised.When a person dies, Mamprusisdig a temporary grave near thecompound. At the next dry seasonthey hold a special uneral, withood and dancing to honour the

person. At this time the deadpersons spirit is nally released.

Ancestors are believed to help ina crisis through various divinerswho live in each village. TheMamprusi communicate withtheir ancestors through sacricesand oerings. Fourteen percento Mamprusis are Muslims, andour percent are Christians. Greatsocial pressure is put on any whowant to change.

and other spiritual beings. Theyhave many estivals and ritualsthat orm part o Chinese culturetoday.

One o the common motis onTujia embroidery is the bullseye. This reers to a Tujia legend,which relates how one autumnday a herd o bulls was attackedby a tiger while grazing on amountain slope. At rst sight othe tiger, the bulls were startled,even rightened, but they soonregained their composure. Thebulls then charged at the tiger,which fed in panic. To this daythe Tujia regard the bulls eye as asymbol o the victory o good overevil.

It seems strange to be praying orVietnamese in Cambodia whenthere is a great need or prayer

or the Vietnamese in Vietnam.However lets not orget thethousands o Vietnamese who ormany reasons dont live in theirhomeland. Some have come orwork in past regimes, even backto the French colony days, somecame when Vietnam occupied

Cambodia and others have fedpersecution rom Communistauthorities.

Most Vietnamese in Cambodialive in poverty with inadequateood and housing and no accessto clean water. Many are without

land, living in foating villageson the lake or rivers. I asked,a majority o Vietnamese wouldclaim to be Buddhist.Howevertheir lives centre around ancestorworship and animism. Food andbeverage are regularly oered todeceased relatives and other spirits.

On special holidays, paper votivesrepresenting money and gold areburned and sent to the deceasedancestors. It is their belie thatthese spirits have the ability toinfuence the lives o the living, sothey must be appeased. They live inconstant ear that an unappeased

spirit will bring misortune uponthem and their amilies.

Religion: Buddhism

Isolated rom Christian outreachalong the 713 mile long DaduRiver in southern China. The Ersu

are ocially Tibetans, but it isbelieved that they originally werenomads whose kingdoms brokeup, orcing their migration.

The Ersu people ollow ashamanistic orm o Buddhism.Like most Buddhists, they believe

in reincarnation. The next liedepends on the virtue o theprevious lie. They believe that ipeople are truly wicked, they willbe reincarnated as animals. Asar as we know, there has neverbeen a church among the Ersupeople, nor an outreach to them.

There are no known Christiansamong them, there is no Scripturetranslated or them, there are nogospel recordings or JESUS Filmin their language, and no outreachto them!
