Your Home Maintenance Reminder Corner This is just a gentle reminder that homes in this Community need to be kept in good repair and looking their best. If you have some maintenance issues that you are unable to address, such as shed painting, skirting work, power washing, lawn care, spring clean-up, porch and deck stain-ing, etc., we have many people in the Community, and also some that are recommended by resi-dents that are listed on the Bulletin Board in the entranceway of the Community Center, and also on the website at gypsumcoop.org. The Office can also help you out with recommenda-tions, and sometimes just asking a neighbor who they have used for similar work - (word-of-mouth-advertising) is the way to go. Lawn damage from the winter months Morgan Services will be handling lawn repairs for Gypsum Mills between April 1 to April 15. If your lawn was damaged by a Town plow truck this past winter, we encourage to contact the Victor Highway Department as 924-3323. However, if you wish to contract Morgan Services, please call us before April 1 so we can put you on our schedule. In addition to this, with the spring season arriving, many of you will be planning home repairs or alterations. Therefore, we would like to take this time to reiterate that all subcontractors working in Gypsum Mills must carry Workman’s Compensation Insurance and a certificate of their insurance must be filed with our office. If you are looking for reliable contractors, feel free to contact Dave Garritano, and he can provide you with references. Morgan Services Michele Lieber Service Coordinator 924-3988

FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK

Sunshine, blue skies, warmer temperatures, crocuses peeking up and of course the calen-dar date of March 20, mark the end of the winter doldrums and new beginnings. This month we have a few new beginnings to announce. This April issue of the SCOOP signals one of those changes and new beginnings. With the resignation of former SCOOP editor Nancy Townsend in March, our community was in need of a new editor and was fortunate enough to have Saralyn Gould step up and volunteer to take on the task of editing our community’s newspaper. As everything is ready for the golfers to join their respective leagues and begin chasing the small diameter white dimpled ball around the course. Spring also brings the melting of snow and the uncovering of pet droppings, which have not been picked up. While we encourage our residents to exercise themselves and their pets, we also remind everyone to be a responsible pet owner and clean up after your pet. Thinking of exercising, more and more of our residents will be out walking on our roadways and because we have no sidewalks, they will be sharing the road with bicyclists and motor vehicles. Please be courteous and considerate and keep in mind that just because the speed limit is posted at 30 miles per hour, it may be a wiser and safer decision to slow down while driving in our commu-nity. One more thank you goes out to everyone who helped with set-up, preparation, serving and cleanup for the dinners we have had over the past three months and the monthly breakfasts. Every dinner and breakfast has been a great success and only through the volunteers of our community has that been possible. When the flock of snowbirds returns we can delight in let-ting them know what they missed by telling them just how good the dinners were. Until next month, enjoy the spring weather and everything our community has to offer.

LETTER OF INTRODUCTION FROM THE NEW SCOOP EDITOR Hello! My name is Saralyn Gould. I am the new Scoop Editor. I am going to try to fill the very capable shoes of Nancy Townsend, who has been the Editor since 2006, and has re-signed. My husband Fred and I have lived in Gypsum Mills for almost four years. My brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Tina Condo, live here and introduced us to this lovely place. We are very happy here. I have twenty-five years of editorial work experience (proofreading, editing and index-ing) at General Code Publishers, a codification company in the area. I am looking forward to the prospect of continuing a fun and informative Scoop. If you have articles you would like to have printed in the Scoop, submit your Signed Article in the clear plastic Scoop Box which hangs on the wall just to the left in the entranceway of the Community Center. I cannot print any Article that has not been signed. If you have email, you can also send the article to [email protected].

NOTES FROM THE ST. PATRICK’S DAY DINNER

The St. Patrick’s Day Dinner consisting of corned beef, cabbage, carrots, salt potatoes and homemade biscuits was a huge success. The delicious dinner was prepared by Linda and Bob Tuttle and Gloria and Steve Poyzer and their volunteer leprechauns. Residents who at-tended brought a beautiful array of desserts. What a variety! Along with the dinner we had a 50/50 raffle. The winners were; $40 - Tina Condo; 30$ - Brian Canfield; and $20 - Anne Leitner. We also had a raffle to help raise $$$ for more chairs for the Community Center. The winners were: $50 gift certificate to Champs Restaurant - Connie Durgan; two coffee gift bags from Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters - Gloria Poyzer and Barb Popenhusene; and a gift bag of Avon cosmetics - Betty Karins. Congratulations to all the winners.

ATTENTION: CRAFTERS OF GYPSUM MILLS We will meet on April 7 and April 21. Please put this on your calendars. We will be doing a scrap booking project. Please bring pictures of family, pets, vacations, etc. Paper will be pro-vided. Any questions call Jan Pugsley at 924-9248. Thank you!

POOL TABLE We have had some issues with residents regarding pool table rules. Our rules state that only adults, ages eighteen and over, are allowed to use the pool table for liability reasons. Per the agreement we have in place with the owner of the pool table, David Beyers, he alone can make exceptions to this rule at his discretion. Mr. Beyers has given permission to a resident whose two sons may use the pool table as long as their mother or father is present. An agreement has been signed between both parties, and copies will go the owner of the table, the Board mem-bers, the resident and both resident files in the Sales Office.

AUTISM JAM 2008 A huge thank you to all Gypsum Mills residents who, through your kindness supported “Autism Jam 2008.” We hope you all had some fun with the pink flamingo going from yard to yard. • Our benefit was loads of fun, and everyone was delighted with the great items from the si-

lent auction and raffles. • We apologize for the lateness of this thank you; however, we had a serious problem with the

computer that held all our information, and it took many months to retrieve everything. • Again, many thanks. We hope we can count on your continuing support for “Autism Jam

2009,” to be held on August 8 of this year. Gratefully, Tom and Jeralyn Cicotta

SCOOP DISTRIBUTION - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED If enough people would like the Scoop to continued to be delivered to their homes, we need more VOLUNTEERS to distribute them. I have spoken to many of the residents who would like the Scoop delivered. If we don’t get enough volunteers to help with the delivery, we would have to pick our Scoop up at the Community Center in the future. Please help us so we can con-tinue delivery to our homes. For more information call Saralyn Gould at 924-9279 or email me at [email protected]. Also if you want the Scoop delivered to your home, contact the Sales Office and your name will be added to the list.

NEW ROOFS The Victor Code Enforcement Officer has asked that we mention that everyone is required to obtain a permit prior to having a new roof installed on your home. In addition to this, we would like to reiterate that all contractors working within Gypsum Mills need to be on file with our Service Dept. and carry the required Workmen’s Compensation Insurance.

VICTOR GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY The recently formed Victor Genealogical Society will make a presentation to members of our community on May 6, 2009 at 6:30 p.m., in the Community Center. All interested in learning about this non-profit organization are welcome to attend. We have prepared a short power point presentation and will be telling about our goals for the Society and how we encourage those in-terested in the pursuit of their ancestral heritage. The Society is organized exclusively for edu-cational purposes. Please join us for an hour to see if this is something you would enjoy. We look forward to see-ing you there.

MAIL DELIVERY ISSUES Dear Gypsum Mills Residents, Please, if you have someone else’s mail in your mailbox, please place it in the slot designated for it or even push it to the back of your box onto the floor if you are unable to walk around. Our mail was left on the ledge by someone. It could have blown away, and was very important to us. Fortunately, a wonderful neighbor saw it and delivered it to our home. *Editors Note: I called the Victor Post Office with a delivery problem, and they prefer that we place someone else’s mail in the slot designated for it, and that when we get someone else’s mail to call the Post Office. Thank you The Underhills

APRIL BREAKFAST There will be NO APRIL BREAKFAST THIS MONTH. because it falls on Easter Sunday. Lou Guyette and his Crew will be serving again in May.

THINKING OF SELLING YOUR HOME? Call those you know: Your Gypsum Mills Sales Team at: (585) 924-4710 Who better to sell for than the Team at Gypsum Mills Estates Sales Office. We are experienced and have a proven track record in sales of manufactured homes. We will be happy to help you with all your questions. More reasons why you should list with Us: • We receive many calls inquiring about pre-owned homes within our Community. • We have a wonderful website where we can show off your home to visitors.

(www:gypsummills.com) • We advertise in the Democrat & Chronicle weekly

NO NURSING HOME FOR US

No nursing home for us. We are checking into the Holiday Inn. With the average cost for a nursing home care being $188. per day, there is a better way when we get old and feeble. We have already checked on reservations at the Holiday Inn. For a combined long term stay discount and senior discount, it's $49.23 per night. That leaves $138.77 a day for: breakfast, lunch and dinner in any restaurant we want, or room service, laundry, gratuities and special TV movies. Plus, they provide a spa, swimming pool, a workout room, a lounge, washer-dryer, etc. Most have free toothpaste and razors, and all have free shampoo and soap. Five dollars worth of tips a day will have the entire staff scrambling to help you. They treat you like a customer, not a patient. There is a city bus stop out front, and seniors ride free. The handicap bus will also pick you up (if you fake a decent limp). To meet other nice people, call a church bus on Sundays. For a change of scenery, take the airport shuttle bus and eat at one of the nice restaurants there. While you're at the airport, fly somewhere. Otherwise, the cash keeps building up. It takes months to get into decent nursing homes. Holiday Inn will take your reservation today, and you are not stuck in one place forever, you can move from Inn to Inn, or even from city to city. Want to see Hawaii? They have a Holiday Inn there too. TV broken ? Light bulbs need chang-ing? Need a mattress replaced? No problem. They fix everything, and apologize for the incon-venience. The Inn has a night security person and daily room service. The maid checks to see if you are ok. If not, they will call the undertaker or an ambulance. If you fall and break a hip, Medicare will pay for the hip, and Holiday Inn will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life. And no worries about visits from family. They will always be glad to find you and proba-bly check in for a few days mini-vacation. The grand kids can use the pool. What more can you ask for? So, when we reach that golden age, we'll face it with a grin.

ITS NOT THE YEARS IN YOUR LIFE THAT COUNT, IT’S THE LIFE IN YOUR YEARS
