Membership Meeting ,Nov 6, 2013 We had 30 members attend this months membership meeting.

I personally want to thank everyone who attended and helped

at the Jones Boys Concert on October 26. It was a huge

success and everyone had a lot of fun. There are many pictures in this month’s newsletter. When you see Janet, Radine, Ann

or Mel (who volunteers daily) please give them a huge thank

you. They served 1763 meals in October over twice as many as

we did last year in October. Hope you all had a Happy

Thanksgiving and have a Merry Christmas.

    MAE

O GOD, WE KNOW YOU CARE ABOUT EACH OF YOUR CHILDREN.

AT THIS HOLY TIME OF THE YEAR WHEN JESUS WAS BORN.

LIFT UP OUR TROOPS, SO FAR FROM FAMILY AND HOME.

GIVE THEM HOPE AND ALLOW THEM TO ENJOY CHRISTMAS AS BEST AS THEY CAN IN THAT DESOLATE LAND.

THEY DO THEIR BEST WITH HONOR.

HOLD THEM TIGHTLY, O LORD AND GIVE THEM COURAGE. LET THEM KNOW YOU ARE NEAR AND THAT THEY ARE LOVED

AS THEY ENDURE HARSH CONDITIONS, GREAT DANGER AND LONELINESS.

BRIGHTEN THEIR HEARTS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON AS WELL AS THEIR FAMILIES’

AND MAY THEY SOON BE WRAPPED IN THEIR LOVED ONE’S ARMS. GOD BLESS US ALL AS WE PRAY IN YOUR HOLY NAME.

    AND GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Are You A Veteran or the Spouse of a Deceased Veteran?

Did You Ever Wonder If you were Entitled To VA Benefits? On Wednesday December 4 at 10:00 a Service Officer from the Disabled American Veterans will be at

the Frederica Senior Center to answer your questions and help you apply for benefits if you qualify. All

you need to do is show up and bring a copy of your DD 214 (Report of Separation from Active Duty).

Need more information? Contact Ray at [email protected] or call 335-4555.

Social Security Announces 1.5 Percent Benefit Increase for 2014

Monthly Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for nearly 63 million Americans

will increase 1.5 percent in 2014, the Social Security Administration announced today.

The 1.5 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) will begin with benefits that more than 57 million

Social Security beneficiaries will receive in January 2014. Increased payments to more than 8 million SSI

beneficiaries will begin on December 31, 2013.

Some other changes that take effect in January of each year are based on the increase in average wages.

Based on that increase, the maximum amount of earnings subject to the Social Security tax (taxable

maximum) will increase to $117,000 from $113,700. Of the estimated 165 million workers who will pay

Social Security taxes in 2014, about 10 million will pay higher taxes as a result of the increase in the

    taxable maximum.

Information about Medicare changes for 2014 is available at www.Medicare.gov.

The Social Security Act provides for how the COLA is calculated. To read more, please visit

    www.socialsecurity.gov/cola.

Frederica Senior Center provides a variety of programs and services for people age

50 and over or disabled. The two primary services include outreach

    social services and nutrition.

Outreach helps seniors and many veterans navigate through a maze of information,

forms, applications and resources to assist seniors to live safely in their own

homes. Frederica Senior Center Outreach program provides transportation to sen-

iors for daily attendance and medical appointments.

The nutrition program offers free and low cost home cooked breakfast and noon

meals on weekdays. We are pleased to announce our meals services has increased

over one hundred percent since last year; serving over twelve

hundred meals last month alone. But as meals service increases, so does the cost for the center to provide these hot home cooked nutritious meals.

Frederica Senior Center is asking for you to donate to our fund drive this year to

continue to provide the needs of our growing senior population. Please help us to

    feed our seniors.

The Frederica Senior Center s mission is to guide Delaware’s senior into a brighter future. The Center is where seniors

and or persons with disabilities join together for services, activities, socialization and nutritious home cooked meals.

Programs are designed to enhance our seniors dignity, support their independence and encourage involvement in and

with the Center and their local community.

This Membership Guidelines Booklet has been developed to enhance the experience of your participation in the Center

Activities and programs. It is the Centers priority to provide a safe, pleasant, positive, comfortable, enjoyable environ-

    ment to our members.

The Center recognizes that some behaviors may distract and disrupt for the enjoyment of the Center. That is why the

following guidelines have been set up by the Board of Directors and Staff Members in order to address any instances

that may occur and disrupt the daily routine and experience at the Center.

We all ask that you carefully read this booklet to become familiar with these guidelines in order to know what is ex-

pected from each and every member of the Frederica Senior Center.

    1. Membership is limited by the resources of the Center to individuals who are self mobile, with or without assistance

devices such as wheelchairs or walkers, independent, capable of appropriate decision making, self toileting and have

adequate appearance and hygiene to participate in daily activities. If not independent self mobile members may attend

    with a personal assistant.

    2. As a member we ask that you promote goodwill. No member shall mistreat, either verbally or physically, any other

member or staff. Mistreatment includes sexual, racial or otherwise harassing comments. Violence of any kind will not

be tolerated and shall result in immediate dismissal from the Center, and membership will be revoked immediately.

    3. Members are asked to encourage diversity. Isolation of members based on race, religion, color, sex, national origin,

sexual orientation, and or physical or mental disability shall not be tolerated.

    4. The use of illegal drugs or alcohol is not permitted on or in Center property.

    5. The rooms and equipment in the Center are for the use of the entire membership and are never for the exclusive use

of any one member. Members are expected to respect and maintain the facility and equipment they use. Members may

be liable for purposeful damage or destruction of any Center property.

    6. Members are not to use any vulgar or profane language at any time.

    7. If at any time a member has a problem of some kind, whether it be with another member, staff member, a program

or procedure in the Center, that member should report their concern to the Executive Director or Staff Member. No

member has the right to approach a guest or group of guests to voice their complaint. Complaining among other mem-

bers will not get the situation resolved but will only bring disharmony into the Center.

    8. Any criminal act committed by a member will result in immediate dismissal.

    9. Inoculations must not be done in public areas, such as dining room, lobby or kitchen.

The purpose of these guidelines is to allow everyone to richly enjoy their visit to the Center every time they are here.

It is up to each individual member to do their part in order to achieve this goal.

    PLEASE DO YOUR PART!

    Frederica Senior Center’s Mission Statement

Founded in 1974, the Frederica Senior Center was built on the need to combat the debilitating effects of geographical

isolation of the elderly residing in Frederica, Magnolia, Felton, North Bowers Beach and rural surrounding areas in Delaware.

Our goal is to provide a hot home cooked nutritious meal daily, social, recreational and educational activities,
