Situated in Arundel on the Gold Coast, The Driving School has been

in business of heavy vehicle instruction since 1999, and we are a

Government approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO No.

32261). The Driving School provides a comprehensive range of heavy

vehicle driving lessons, day and evening courses as well as condensed

training courses for all classes of heavy vehicles for Queensland and

NSW licences.

We have a large fleet of vehicles with different type of gearboxes

including Automatics, Synchromesh and the specialty Road Ranger

also known as the “Crash Box”. This means we can offer you the best

practical and most economical way to get your licence.

All of our instructors have current industry experience and our training

facility has been purpose built to industry standards. We focus on all

the factors involved in being a Professional Heavy Vehicle Driver as

opposed to just the idiosyncrasies of particular gearbox.

Employer groups are aware of the instruction gained from The Driving

School and the employability of our students through the driving

behaviours and skills they have learned. More recently employers have

approached The Driving School to advertise driving positions, for their

companies, and seek recommendations of suitable operators to work

for them. Leaving both happy clients and employers.

LRLight Rigid Truck LicenceA LR (Light Rigid) Licence is the next class up from a car licence. You must have held a car licence for at least 12 months to be eligible.

Serving industry since 1999, with a range of clients from individual

students to large national companies, we have the skills and knowledge

to deliver training outcomes to meet your needs and expectations. We

provide Nationally Recognised Training and Assessment for a range

of machines including; Forklift and Order Picker licences and popular

Earthmoving Machinery tickets including; Skid-steer Loader (bobcat),

Excavator, Front-End Loader and even roller.

The Operator School is a Government approved Registered Training

Organisation (RTO No. 31513). What does this mean to you? It means

the operator school can exercise complete quality control throughout

our training and assessment delivery.

Our facility allows students to undergo a variety of work related tasks

on machines they wish to obtain licence in with the assurance of gaining

valuable experience through guided instruction. Whilst we may not

always be the cheapest, we constantly strive to provide the best service

possible and we are confident that our product provides industry relative

training at a value for money price. We do this by only using trainers

who have been employed previously in the construction industry. Their

knowledge and skills ultimately give the student an insight into the

industry and background of what is required ‘on the job’.

For this reason The Operator School has also been selected by

Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) as a preferred supplier of training

and assessment for a range of machines used within the Construction

industry, which means CSQ funding maybe available for all machinery

WHO’S ELIGIBLE FOR FUNDING?

To be eligible for The Short Courses Program that has been

designed to assist a participant to meet critical workplace

health and safety and licensing requirements relevant to the

building and construction industry.

• The participant must be an existing worker in the

Queensland building and construction industry.

• The participant must be an Australian or New Zealand

citizen, permanent resident or holder of a refugee or

humanitarian visa.

• The participant must be a permanent resident

of Queensland OR be permanently employed in

Queensland.

• Applicants must be able to show proof of employment

for at least 1 month.

Depending on your eligibility we have funding available that

can go towards or even cover the full cost of your machinery

training. This funding fits well alongside the way we have

structured the delivery of our courses as we have always

offered courses for multiple machines. See the earth moving

machinery courses available.

Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) is an independent industry-funded body

supporting employers, workers, apprentices and career seekers in the building and

construction industry.

Building and Construction Industry Training Fund (Qld) (the Fund) is an income

tax exempt charitable trust. BCITF (Qld) Ltd (the Company), an unlisted limited

liability public company, is the corporate trustee. The Minister of the Queensland

Department of Education, Training and Employment is the sole member of

the Company and appoints the directors who are all industry representatives.

Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) is a trading name of the Company.

The Fund was established in November 1998 for the purpose defined in the Trust

Deed and also shown in the objects of the Company’s constitution. The Fund

receives its income in the form of a statutory training levy. The objective within

the Trust Deed is to generally foster, promote, encourage, advance and assist in

the acquisition and enhancement of the knowledge, skills, training and education

of those persons employed in the Queensland building and construction industry.

Employers are desperately looking for qualified truck drivers new to

the industry or for those already holding a truck licence to increase

their skill levels to land the high paying jobs.

CERT III DRIVING OPERATIONS TLI31210The Certificate III in Driving Operations (TLI31210) is designed for

driving operation job roles within the Transport and Logistics Industry.

The qualification delivered at The Driving School is comprises of up to

18 units (general heavy freight).

The qualification includes all necessary core units, plus a range of

electives that will give anyone looking for a career in the road transport

industry valuable hands on experience needed for work on a daily basis.

Courses are delivered in our classroom / virtual workplace environment,

with completion as early as a matter of weeks, or in a flexible self-

paced learning tailored to the student’s needs, with all course using

the necessary resources and equipment needed to adapt to real life

workplaces.

There is a further delivery option to complete the qualification in

conjunction with your current employer at your workplace, over a

period of between 3 to 12 months.

To further enhance their skillset and employability, students at the

completion of qualification have the opportunity to obtain their Heavy

Vehicle Licence at a significantly reduced price.

The Queensland Government is currently offering eligible

Queenslanders access to government subsidised training

through the Certificate 3 Guarantee. This program offers

post-school certificate level III qualification in priority training

areas. The primary intent of the Certificate 3 Guarantee is the

delivery and completion of a Certificate III level qualification

which can lead to employment or career progression.

The Driving School is a pre-qualified supplier and approved

to offer the Certificate III in Driving Operations under the

Certificate 3 Guarantee, making The Driving School the one-

stop destination for all your transport learning needs.

Course units correct as of 01/12/2015 and may change or be updated at the RTO discretion.

Short Courses

Operate a Commercial Vehicle (TLIC2001A)

This short course is a designed for those students who want to learn more about driving a vehicle for a desired employer. Ideal for Couriers, Mobile Canteen & Coffee vendors, even hire company operators.

Completion of this short course provides a Statement of Attainment and demonstrates to employers the professionalism and proficiency of a student’s driving skills, including the monitoring of traffic, management of vehicle condition and associated equipment and effective identification and management of hazardous situations.

A minimum of Provisional car licence must be held prior to commencement of this short course.

Awareness of Chain Responsibility (TLIF2092A)

This short course is a designed for those students who want to learn how to identify, apply and follow chain of responsibility regulations that are applicable to the individual’s job role. Considered one of the most important aspects of Transport Industry regulation, employers are looking for workers that can demonstrate applied knowledge and skills towards safety of all those associated within the transport supply chain. Completion of this short course provides a Statement of Attainment and demonstrates to employers the professionalism and proficiency of a student’s knowledge in areas of the chain including, current legislation & regulations, penalties as a result of a breach, identified parties responsible in the chain and reasonable steps to address liabilities after they have been identified.

Apply Fatigue Management Strategies (TLIF2010A)

This short course is a designed for those students who want to learn how to apply fatigue management strategies, including identifying and acting upon signs of fatigue and implementing appropriate strategies to minimise fatigue during work activities, in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements. Licensing or certification requirements are not applicable to this unit. Completion of this short course provides a Statement of Attainment and demonstrates to employers the professionalism and proficiency of a student’s knowledge in areas where they will need to fulfil the applicable federal and state/territory legislation and relevant regulations covering the management of fatigue in the workplace during work activities in particular when operating equipment, vehicles and load shifting equipment.

Complete a Work Diary (TLIE3028A)

This short course is a designed for those students who want to learn the skills and knowledge required to compile information required for a national driver work diary used in the road transport industry and to complete the work diary in accordance with national heavy vehicle regulator (NHVR) and heavy vehicle legislative requirements. A work diary is completed as an integral part of day-to-day work operations in the road transport industry.

Note: Each of the short courses above gives credit transfer towards the certificate III in Driving Operations.

Secure Cargo (TLIA1001A)

This short course is a designed for those students who want to learn the skills and knowledge required to secure cargo within the transport industry, including preparing to secure cargo, lashing and unlashing cargo, protecting cargo from weather, packing and unpacking cargo, as well as workplace procedures and policies for the securing of cargo or freight.
