It takes a lifetime to discov-er all of Wimberley’s secrets. Whether you’re visiting for a day or calling the Wimberley Valley home, each day here reveals new adventures and insights.
Ideally situated at the con-
and Cypress Creek, the Wim-berley Valley’s natural beauty reveals itself in dramatic vistas and awe-inspiring panoramas. Blue Hole and Jacob’s Well have achieved world-wide prominence as two of the most picturesque swimming holes in the great state of Texas. Hiking, biking, birding and geocaching are just a few of the many outdoor activi-ties available in the valley.
Wimberley’s eclectic community adds another
layer of appeal to this Hill Country locale. Artists and musicians have made the area home for generations and this small town hosts big-city arts and cultural activities as well as world-class artists and artisans. Intriguing events
all year long. Trail of Lights, live theatre, musical perfor-mances and more can all be experienced this fall and winter, but fascinating events can be found in the rest of the calendar as well. For a complete calendar of events visit www.Wimberley.org or www.WimberleyArts.org.
Shopping in Wimberley is a never-ending treasure hunt.
month except January and February, Wimberley Market Days attract shoppers and vendors from throughout Texas, but the shops, galler-
ies and boutiques that are open year round also offer a wealth of opportunity for browsing, buying and people watching. Shopping can be thirsty work and the Wim-berley Valley has become a mecca for wineries, breweries and distilleries. Most have tasting rooms open to the public and there are also several tour companies that will do the driving for you.
Wimberley’s culinary scene continues to evolve with taste-bud-tempting options available for every palate. From culinary creations to quick bites by the creek; from catered picnics to fast food and from early morning coffee to late night snacks while listening to great music, Wimberley’s dining options will please your palate and sate your appetite.
Special events become
even more special in the Wimberley Valley. Weddings, reunions and celebrations of every stripe take on a unique resonance here, with memories made that will last a lifetime.
Discovering all of Wim-berley’s secrets will take a lifetime. A good place to start is at the Wimberley Visitor Center, located at 14100

Wimberley, although within 30 minutes of San Marcos or Austin, has managed to keep its small town atmosphere. There are many reasons to vis-
and Pioneer Town, Blue Hole
the Lion’s Club Market Days, but a visit is not complete without a stop by the center of town, the Wimberley Square.
“There are a mix of eclectic businesses unlike anywhere in the state with unmatched character, tremendously maintained,” Wimberley City Manager Don Ferguson said. “It is the ultimate destination for a taste of small town Texas,”
Since at least the 1870s with Bob Moore’s Trading Post, long since vanished, the Wimberley Square has been the “center of town.” Although it has gone through many changes, the Square today is a very import-ant, if not the most important part of town, just like in the old West days.
It is a destination for visitors
“perfect gift” or that unique item that one just has to have. Over 40 shops that offer kitchen supplies, artifacts, linens, wine and beer, furniture and home furnishings, quaint cloth-ing boutiques, coffee shops, and other one-of-a-kind stores. Even during the weekdays, visi-tors are drawn to the Square.
For example, the Old Mill Store offers not only boutique gifts but also old timey candy, fudge, and Blue Bell ice cream where the whole family can sit and relax. Kiss the Cook offers
many cooking utensils you didn’t even know existed. Wine and gourmet food tastings also helps one refresh from a hard day of shopping with benches interspersed throughout the Square, so you can kick back and prop your feet up.
Fashion also has its place with Wall Street Western Wear, the Cedar Chest, Brocante, and for shoes there’s the Boot Whis-perer to name a few.
Home décor and furnishings are also represented whether
Deluxe or more European like Aunt Jenny’s Attic.
There are also restaurants, like the Wimberley Café on the Square, where the lo-cals meet or for Italian fare,
Cypress Creek Café is one of Wimberley’s longest standing restaurants and offers some of the best food in town. A sign outside of Ino’z Brew and Chew aptly states “Daddy Day Care: Leave your husband with
who need a break from the shopping experience.
There is more to the Square than shopping and food though.
Art galleries are everywhere in Wimberley, but the largest concentration is nestled within the town’s center. Whether you are looking for paintings, photographs, sculpture, you

• Things to Do •
Starting in 1992, Tim DeJong the owner and creative force of the Wim-berley Glassworks has amazed both Wimberley residents and visitors alike with unique pieces of glass ar t and lighting. “Live here, create here, inspired here,” as Tim puts it, the Hill Country and the beautiful scenery never stops encouraging him and the creation of new art.
Creating hand blown glass is an ar t form that is over 2000 years old, and has a connection with history. At the glassworks, product is not just made; it is a deeply creative process, with
the same “creative force in every single piece that’s made.”
Since 2006, they are located on
on the way to San Marcos. The showroom itself is dazzling with
an array of different colors, shapes and pieces on display. Whether it is a chandelier, wall sculpture, vase or just a drinking glass, the workmanship and passion is evident in each.
All the works are based on nature and scenic beauty, colors and expe-riences of living in an area that plays a huge part of the inspiration behind

the works. Not just local ar tists, pieces are com-missioned from across the U.S., both residential and commercial. Vases, sculp-tures, platters, home décor and gifts are available for purchase and include both indoor and outdoor glass ar t.
Daily free demonstrations take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. They are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and Easter.
“The demonstrations are
fun, because we have fun,” according to Tim. “People retain a lot more if they laugh.”
Each individual piece is carefully hand blown and crafted one by one mak-ing each truly unique. The Wimberley Glassworks also offers special events throughout the year. Check their website for up to date information on their hap-penings at: www.wimberley-glass.wordpress.com.
“I love it here as it offers the passion, inspiration and love and we put it into every piece we make,” says Tim.

Market DaysLion’s Club
• Things to Do •
Long a Wimberley tradi-tion, the Lions Club Mar-
Saturday of the month March through December, offers crafts, antiques, plants,
items such as BBQ sauce, popcorn, pig skins, jellies, nuts, and almost everything else under the sun in a fair type atmosphere. Money generated by the event
area without the Lion’s help would not exist.
A carry-over from Wim-berley early days where locals would bring their wares and livestock to the Square on Saturdays, the Lions Club moved Market Days to the Lion’s Field in 1971, where it has become an institution. Over 475 vendors, from all over the state and beyond, sell their goods to the delight of visi-tors from all over. According to Lions Club member Dave Osborn, Market Days offers “good people, good food, good times all in small town Texas.”

Wimberley has long been a muse to an array of artists. This quaint community with its breath-taking natural beauty inspires creativity and has become a magnet for arts and culture throughout the region.
Both visual and performing arts are widely represented in the Wimberley Valley, and have been for many generations.
In the fall of 2013 a cadre of arts and cultural organizations united with the goal of using
cooperation and collabora-tion to spotlight Wimberley’s unique creative role. From those initial meetings, the Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance was born, along with a renewed dedi-cation to showcase the arts in our community. WVACA’s more than two dozen mem-ber organizations span the genres from performing arts
-munity groups, and from eco-nomic support organizations
to the local library.Working with the support
of the Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce, which believes that art and culture foster economic viabili-ty, WVACA will raise funds to promote and support the arts in the Wimberley Valley.

of all ages.”With a mission to encour-
age appreciation, collaboration and education, the alliance’s future includes cooperative advertising, event develop-ment and support of art education.

and are expected to be seen by thousands of visitors.
“Bootiful” had already brought an array of attention to Wimberley before the boots even made their public debut,” Moreman said. “With the boots expected to be
on public view for at least 18 months, thousands of people will be able to experience the creative spirit that is such a key element of Wimberley.”
While “Bootiful” will be a very public art project, it will be far from the only artistic

Their beers are offered locally at Inoz’s Brew Pub on the Square, Kate’s Place, and in San Marcos at Palmer’s and Tantra Coffee House.
According to Dennis Middleton “we regard good beer as a passion, we serve beer with pas-sion and that separates us – good beer with passion.”
