Presidents Report ndash February 2014

Presidentrsquos Pen I hope everyone had a great holiday over the Christmas break and are getting back into the swing of things for the New Year As the Road to Memphis fundraiser fast approaches the BASEQ committee are very happy with the way everything is panning out for the event So far there has been a good amount of presale tickets and we are expecting a great turn out on the day We have some fine and entertaining musicians taking part at our Road to Memphis Fundraiser on the 23rd February 2014 at the New Globe Fortitude Valley The first band to take the stage at 1pm will be The Amy Winehouse Tribute Band featuring Angela Fabian and Donna Hourigan At 2pm we will have the Mojo Webb Band featuring our representatives sent to Memphis in February 2012 Mojo and the band will definitely have everyone moving and grooving At 3pm Hatz Fitz and Cara Robinson will perform these are world class artists At 4pm the new line up of 3 members of the disbanded Devils Kiosk Harvey Toby Jeremy and featuring vocalist Al The guys will be performing with their new band known as The Bella Reunion At 5pm we will be knocked out with one of the finest rockabilly bands Brisbane has to offer West Texas Crude These tickets for the Road to Memphis Fundraiser are on wwwticketboothcomau If you are a member and purchase your tickets at the door it will be $20 If you have any friends who arenrsquot members they can get these tickets for $25 plus a small booking fee through ticketbooth These tickets will be $30 at the door for non members There are limited tickets so if you wish to secure your tickets do so through ticketbooth Continuedhelliphellip

I understand you will be paying slightly more for your ticket but remember all money raised after expenses will go into a fund for the Blues Association to send representatives to the Memphis International Blues Challenge So any extra monies are a direct donation to the fund Hopefully all our members will get behind this fundraiser and make it a raging success On another note Once again we have been invited back by the Broadbeach Alliance to have a presence at Blues On Broadbeach this year on the weekend of the 23rd and 24th May 2014 It was great to participate last year with quite a lot of interest in BASEQ by many festival goers I think this initiative can only be a good thing for Blues networking in South East Queensland and nationally Irsquod like to thank all the bands and supporters who have been coming along to the Coorparoo RSL for the BASEQ jams The Rectifiers put on a great representation of fine Blues for the patrons last Sunday I look forward to seeing you all at the Road to Memphis Fundraiser Desley Done President BASEQ

BASEQrsquos monthly jam continues on the last Sunday of each month The jams now have a permanent monthly home at the Coorparoo RSL Host band start from 3pm jamming until 7pm Sunday 30th March 2014 ndash The Bella Reunion Back line (PA amps and drum kit) are provided You are welcome to bring your own amplifier (of an appropriate size) Jammers MUST bring their own instrument or drum sticks (as the case may be) unless arrangements are made PRIOR to the day you seek to borrow anotherrsquos instrument or sticks for your set Note Dba levels are monitored at venues (95Dba Max)

throughout his youth he found the Blues in his early 20s At a BB King concert (with the Nighthawks opening) in the late 1980s Leo heard live Blues for the first time and it was a revelation He took up harmonica listening especially to Little Walter Sonny Boy Williamson and Kim Wilson of the Fabulous Thunderbirds BB Kings guitar and voice were inspiring and Leo began listening to BB and other great Blues guitaristvocalists like Freddie King Guitar Slim and Muddy Waters Within a short time Leo was fronting bands on vocals guitar andor harmonica in Virginia In this period (late 80s through early 90s) Leo opened for many national acts including Delbert McClinton and Danny Gatton He also traded licks with Boyd Tinsley of the Dave Matthews band at Charlottesville VA house parties After he moved to Colorado in the mid-90s Leo fronted two successful Blues bands Chicago Skinny and the Delta Sonics With Chicago Skinny Leo recorded his first CD (Keg O Dynamte) and he wrote and sang most of the tunes on this disc Listen to Me a song Leo wrote and sang on Keg secured the band a spot in the 1999 Musician magazine Best Unsigned Bands of 1999 competition With Listen to Me Chicago Skinny placed as a finalist - in the top 12 entries of over 2000 submitted nationwide Another of Leos songs Beater Car Boogie was featured on the nationally-syndicated radio program Car Talk Keg O Dynamite also received excellent reviews in several national Blues magazines Continuedhellip

In the Winter of 2003 Leo played guitar and harmonica for cajun legend Doug Kershaw on his national tour Leo was also singing and playing guitar with the Delta Sonics at this time and after playing guitar in Big Bill Morganfields (Muddy Waters son) band for New Years Eve 2003 Leo played guitar for Bo Diddley and Pinetop Perkins (of the Muddy Waters band) at Denver Colorado shows After moving to New Zealand in 2004 King Leo performed throughout New Zealand for several years with the Growling Dogs and the band released the album Mad Love in 2009 Leo LaDell will be in Australia and performing at The Coorparoo RSL on Friday 28th February from 730pm and also at the Morrison Hotel on the 1st of March from 8pm Performing with Leo during his stay is Brisbanersquos local favouritehellipMike Frost masters in the genre as Bo Diddley and Pinetop Perkins has enabled King Leo to craft an authentic Blues sound great for listening and dancingrdquo

Presidents Report ndash February 2014

Presidentrsquos Pen I hope everyone had a great holiday over the Christmas break and are getting back into the swing of things for the New Year As the Road to Memphis fundraiser fast approaches the BASEQ committee are very happy with the way everything is panning out for the event So far there has been a good amount of presale tickets and we are expecting a great turn out on the day We have some fine and entertaining musicians taking part at our Road to Memphis Fundraiser on the 23rd February 2014 at the New Globe Fortitude Valley The first band to take the stage at 1pm will be The Amy Winehouse Tribute Band featuring Angela Fabian and Donna Hourigan At 2pm we will have the Mojo Webb Band featuring our representatives sent to Memphis in February 2012 Mojo and the band will definitely have everyone moving and grooving At 3pm Hatz Fitz and Cara Robinson will perform these are world class artists At 4pm the new line up of 3 members of the disbanded Devils Kiosk Harvey Toby Jeremy and featuring vocalist Al The guys will be performing with their new band known as The Bella Reunion At 5pm we will be knocked out with one of the finest rockabilly bands Brisbane has to offer West Texas Crude These tickets for the Road to Memphis Fundraiser are on wwwticketboothcomau If you are a member and purchase your tickets at the door it will be $20 If you have any friends who arenrsquot members they can get these tickets for $25 plus a small booking fee through ticketbooth These tickets will be $30 at the door for non members There are limited tickets so if you wish to secure your tickets do so through ticketbooth Continuedhelliphellip

I understand you will be paying slightly more for your ticket but remember all money raised after expenses will go into a fund for the Blues Association to send representatives to the Memphis International Blues Challenge So any extra monies are a direct donation to the fund Hopefully all our members will get behind this fundraiser and make it a raging success On another note Once again we have been invited back by the Broadbeach Alliance to have a presence at Blues On Broadbeach this year on the weekend of the 23rd and 24th May 2014 It was great to participate last year with quite a lot of interest in BASEQ by many festival goers I think this initiative can only be a good thing for Blues networking in South East Queensland and nationally Irsquod like to thank all the bands and supporters who have been coming along to the Coorparoo RSL for the BASEQ jams The Rectifiers put on a great representation of fine Blues for the patrons last Sunday I look forward to seeing you all at the Road to Memphis Fundraiser Desley Done President BASEQ

throughout his youth he found the Blues in his early 20s At a BB King concert (with the Nighthawks opening) in the late 1980s Leo heard live Blues for the first time and it was a revelation He took up harmonica listening especially to Little Walter Sonny Boy Williamson and Kim Wilson of the Fabulous Thunderbirds BB Kings guitar and voice were inspiring and Leo began listening to BB and other great Blues guitaristvocalists like Freddie King Guitar Slim and Muddy Waters Within a short time Leo was fronting bands on vocals guitar andor harmonica in Virginia In this period (late 80s through early 90s) Leo opened for many national acts including Delbert McClinton and Danny Gatton He also traded licks with Boyd Tinsley of the Dave Matthews band at Charlottesville VA house parties After he moved to Colorado in the mid-90s Leo fronted two successful Blues bands Chicago Skinny and the Delta Sonics With Chicago Skinny Leo recorded his first CD (Keg O Dynamte) and he wrote and sang most of the tunes on this disc Listen to Me a song Leo wrote and sang on Keg secured the band a spot in the 1999 Musician magazine Best Unsigned Bands of 1999 competition With Listen to Me Chicago Skinny placed as a finalist - in the top 12 entries of over 2000 submitted nationwide Another of Leos songs Beater Car Boogie was featured on the nationally-syndicated radio program Car Talk Keg O Dynamite also received excellent reviews in several national Blues magazines Continuedhellip

In the Winter of 2003 Leo played guitar and harmonica for cajun legend Doug Kershaw on his national tour Leo was also singing and playing guitar with the Delta Sonics at this time and after playing guitar in Big Bill Morganfields (Muddy Waters son) band for New Years Eve 2003 Leo played guitar for Bo Diddley and Pinetop Perkins (of the Muddy Waters band) at Denver Colorado shows After moving to New Zealand in 2004 King Leo performed throughout New Zealand for several years with the Growling Dogs and the band released the album Mad Love in 2009 Leo LaDell will be in Australia and performing at The Coorparoo RSL on Friday 28th February from 730pm and also at the Morrison Hotel on the 1st of March from 8pm Performing with Leo during his stay is Brisbanersquos local favouritehellipMike Frost masters in the genre as Bo Diddley and Pinetop Perkins has enabled King Leo to craft an authentic Blues sound great for listening and dancingrdquo

Presidents Report ndash February 2014

Presidentrsquos Pen I hope everyone had a great holiday over the Christmas break and are getting back into the swing of things for the New Year As the Road to Memphis fundraiser fast approaches the BASEQ committee are very happy with the way everything is panning out for the event So far there has been a good amount of presale tickets and we are expecting a great turn out on the day We have some fine and entertaining musicians taking part at our Road to Memphis Fundraiser on the 23rd February 2014 at the New Globe Fortitude Valley The first band to take the stage at 1pm will be The Amy Winehouse Tribute Band featuring Angela Fabian and Donna Hourigan At 2pm we will have the Mojo Webb Band featuring our representatives sent to Memphis in February 2012 Mojo and the band will definitely have everyone moving and grooving At 3pm Hatz Fitz and Cara Robinson will perform these are world class artists At 4pm the new line up of 3 members of the disbanded Devils Kiosk Harvey Toby Jeremy and featuring vocalist Al The guys will be performing with their new band known as The Bella Reunion At 5pm we will be knocked out with one of the finest rockabilly bands Brisbane has to offer West Texas Crude These tickets for the Road to Memphis Fundraiser are on wwwticketboothcomau If you are a member and purchase your tickets at the door it will be $20 If you have any friends who arenrsquot members they can get these tickets for $25 plus a small booking fee through ticketbooth These tickets will be $30 at the door for non members There are limited tickets so if you wish to secure your tickets do so through ticketbooth Continuedhelliphellip

I understand you will be paying slightly more for your ticket but remember all money raised after expenses will go into a fund for the Blues Association to send representatives to the Memphis International Blues Challenge So any extra monies are a direct donation to the fund Hopefully all our members will get behind this fundraiser and make it a raging success On another note Once again we have been invited back by the Broadbeach Alliance to have a presence at Blues On Broadbeach this year on the weekend of the 23rd and 24th May 2014 It was great to participate last year with quite a lot of interest in BASEQ by many festival goers I think this initiative can only be a good thing for Blues networking in South East Queensland and nationally Irsquod like to thank all the bands and supporters who have been coming along to the Coorparoo RSL for the BASEQ jams The Rectifiers put on a great representation of fine Blues for the patrons last Sunday I look forward to seeing you all at the Road to Memphis Fundraiser Desley Done President BASEQ

throughout his youth he found the Blues in his early 20s At a BB King concert (with the Nighthawks opening) in the late 1980s Leo heard live Blues for the first time and it was a revelation He took up harmonica listening especially to Little Walter Sonny Boy Williamson and Kim Wilson of the Fabulous Thunderbirds BB Kings guitar and voice were inspiring and Leo began listening to BB and other great Blues guitaristvocalists like Freddie King Guitar Slim and Muddy Waters Within a short time Leo was fronting bands on vocals guitar andor harmonica in Virginia In this period (late 80s through early 90s) Leo opened for many national acts including Delbert McClinton and Danny Gatton He also traded licks with Boyd Tinsley of the Dave Matthews band at Charlottesville VA house parties After he moved to Colorado in the mid-90s Leo fronted two successful Blues bands Chicago Skinny and the Delta Sonics With Chicago Skinny Leo recorded his first CD (Keg O Dynamte) and he wrote and sang most of the tunes on this disc Listen to Me a song Leo wrote and sang on Keg secured the band a spot in the 1999 Musician magazine Best Unsigned Bands of 1999 competition With Listen to Me Chicago Skinny placed as a finalist - in the top 12 entries of over 2000 submitted nationwide Another of Leos songs Beater Car Boogie was featured on the nationally-syndicated radio program Car Talk Keg O Dynamite also received excellent reviews in several national Blues magazines Continuedhellip

In the Winter of 2003 Leo played guitar and harmonica for cajun legend Doug Kershaw on his national tour Leo was also singing and playing guitar with the Delta Sonics at this time and after playing guitar in Big Bill Morganfields (Muddy Waters son) band for New Years Eve 2003 Leo played guitar for Bo Diddley and Pinetop Perkins (of the Muddy Waters band) at Denver Colorado shows After moving to New Zealand in 2004 King Leo performed throughout New Zealand for several years with the Growling Dogs and the band released the album Mad Love in 2009 Leo LaDell will be in Australia and performing at The Coorparoo RSL on Friday 28th February from 730pm and also at the Morrison Hotel on the 1st of March from 8pm Performing with Leo during his stay is Brisbanersquos local favouritehellipMike Frost masters in the genre as Bo Diddley and Pinetop Perkins has enabled King Leo to craft an authentic Blues sound great for listening and dancingrdquo

throughout his youth he found the Blues in his early 20s At a BB King concert (with the Nighthawks opening) in the late 1980s Leo heard live Blues for the first time and it was a revelation He took up harmonica listening especially to Little Walter Sonny Boy Williamson and Kim Wilson of the Fabulous Thunderbirds BB Kings guitar and voice were inspiring and Leo began listening to BB and other great Blues guitaristvocalists like Freddie King Guitar Slim and Muddy Waters Within a short time Leo was fronting bands on vocals guitar andor harmonica in Virginia In this period (late 80s through early 90s) Leo opened for many national acts including Delbert McClinton and Danny Gatton He also traded licks with Boyd Tinsley of the Dave Matthews band at Charlottesville VA house parties After he moved to Colorado in the mid-90s Leo fronted two successful Blues bands Chicago Skinny and the Delta Sonics With Chicago Skinny Leo recorded his first CD (Keg O Dynamte) and he wrote and sang most of the tunes on this disc Listen to Me a song Leo wrote and sang on Keg secured the band a spot in the 1999 Musician magazine Best Unsigned Bands of 1999 competition With Listen to Me Chicago Skinny placed as a finalist - in the top 12 entries of over 2000 submitted nationwide Another of Leos songs Beater Car Boogie was featured on the nationally-syndicated radio program Car Talk Keg O Dynamite also received excellent reviews in several national Blues magazines Continuedhellip

In the Winter of 2003 Leo played guitar and harmonica for cajun legend Doug Kershaw on his national tour Leo was also singing and playing guitar with the Delta Sonics at this time and after playing guitar in Big Bill Morganfields (Muddy Waters son) band for New Years Eve 2003 Leo played guitar for Bo Diddley and Pinetop Perkins (of the Muddy Waters band) at Denver Colorado shows After moving to New Zealand in 2004 King Leo performed throughout New Zealand for several years with the Growling Dogs and the band released the album Mad Love in 2009 Leo LaDell will be in Australia and performing at The Coorparoo RSL on Friday 28th February from 730pm and also at the Morrison Hotel on the 1st of March from 8pm Performing with Leo during his stay is Brisbanersquos local favouritehellipMike Frost masters in the genre as Bo Diddley and Pinetop Perkins has enabled King Leo to craft an authentic Blues sound great for listening and dancingrdquo

Big Names Of Blues 2014 After entering into a new era of Sunshine Coast Entertainment and hosting the successful inaugural Australia Day North Coast Rock lsquonrsquo Blues Event 2014 the Caloundra Power Boat Club is presenting the Big Names Of Blues on Sunday 13 April Acts playing on the day are Kevin Borich Doc Span Band with Tim Gaze and Phil Emmanuel Kevin Borich is an artist who has stood the test of time and is undoubtedly one of the chosen few With a professional career spanning 40 years Kevin Borich has done it all Beginning with the La-De Darsquos in New Zealand writing the classic hit Gonna See My Baby Tonight to his Kevin Borich Express and The Party Boys Kevin has performed at some of the biggest rock events Australia has seen ndash Sunbury and the Rockarenas in the 70s with 60000 people featuring Fleetwood Mac Santana (with whom he was invited onstage to play with) and The Little River Band New Yearrsquos Eves at the Sydney Opera House with 170000 people telecast live nationally and internationally to Japan at that time a first Kevin has supported numerous shows for international acts including Elton John Status Quo Jeff Beck Buddy Guy Peter Frampton Lonnie Mac and also at the Melbourne International Music amp Blues Festival 2003 Tony Joe White John Mayall and Ray Charles From your local to the big events Kevin Borich has carved out a revered reputation in the Australian Music Industry performing his music with a youthful exuberance giving extra meaning to the word longevity Kevin has played and recorded with artists such as Renee Geyer (Blues License) Dutch Tilders (The Blues Had a Baby) Richard Clapton (Prushan Blue) Joe Walsh and The Party Boys [of which he was a founding member and came up with its name) as well as jammed with Carlos Santana on two of his tours also with Bo Didley Richie Blackmore (Deep Purple) Ron Wood (Rolling Stones) John Mayall Taj Mahal Living Colour Overseas tours and tours with Jimmy Barnes Reneersquo Geyer and Mark Hunter have added spice to his career Well known for his high-energy electric guitar style his performance is hailed throughout the music industry as world class Continuedhellip
