Downloading the Grey Horse Bot

The Grey Horse Bot (GHB) is packaged in an automated installer; once the setup file has been

downloaded the program will install itself and a shortcut onto your pc.

I suggest you click “Save”, and download it to your desktop - you will find it easy then.

Once the download is completed, look on your desktop for a file called “grey-horse-bot****-setup

The Grey Horse Bot

© Sporting Bots Limited

When you find the file, “double click” the setup icon and you will first be presented with aGHB splash screen and then the installer options

Hit the next button and you will be presented with the terms and conditions as shown below

You must agree to these terms and conditions for the GHB to install on your pc , once you

have ticked “I agree” hit the next button

The Grey Horse Bot

You will then be presented with the screen below; we recommend that you install the GHB to

the path shown on the screen

GHB will then install and automatically run the release notes pdf

You will also be presented with the below screen

Click next to finalize the installation, GHB will then launch on your pc.

The Grey Horse Bot

The installer will automatically add a GHB launch icon to your desktop and windows program

menu as shown below

Desktop Icon

Start Menu

And that’s it, this installer is also vista friendly so will eliminate some of the tedious securitysettings changes that were required with previous versions of GHB.

The GHB can be run from both the shortcut on your desktop or the start menu and will be fullyfunctional.

- For our users who wish to use multiple copies of the bot

We have this question asked a lot and yes you can have multiple copies of GHB on onemachine but there are a few factors to consider first is the factor that you can only ever haveone copy of GHB using excel staking on any one machine and trying to use it with 2 willcause complications so only do this at your own risk, secondly you will need to adjust apilimiter to ensure you do not surpass 20 api calls per second otherwise betfair will applyadditional charges to your account for the additional bandwidth you are using, and thirdly donot use GHB with the same username on the same market as this also will cause problemsas GHB monitors your account and if one races loses on one copy and another is using thatsame market both will attempt to perform any loss recovery you have in place and this canlead to heavy losses and erratic bets.

So now we have covered off what things you should consider before having 2 copies lets lookat how to set them up.

First locate your install of GHB, if you used or installer package without changing the defaulttarget directory then you will find it under C:\ (Or whatever drive is your windows drive)Program Files\GreyHorse Bot\Folder should look like this

Once you’ve clicked into the directory the address bar should look something like this…

Now at this point just have a quick check that all the following files are present,

The Grey Horse Bot

© Sporting Bots Limited

Once your happy its all there lets get ready to copy the files to create a new copy of GHB(please remember which directory is the original as the uninstaller will only work from theoriginal location)So now press Ctrl + A (or select Edit > Select All from the menu) and windows will select allthe file (see below)

Then press Ctrl + C (or select Edit > Copy from the menu) now open another copy of mycomputer

Now open up which ever drive you wish to copy to and then select File > New > Folder, nowyou will have a new directory please go ahead and name it as you wish so you know what it isand where it is.Once that’s done just open the folder then press Ctrl + V (or select Edit > Paste) now all thefiles will copy over and you can now run the bot from its new location.

Using the Grey Horse Bot (GHB)

Welcome to the GHB quick start guide, this manual will take you through the basics andgetting set up using the core functions.

The first thing you will encounter after loading the bot is the main screen

Your version will not have any races yet.

Now go to Action (left hand top of your screen) and Login.

The Grey Horse Bot

© Sporting Bots Limited

This is your Betfair Username and Password, the same ones that you use to log into Betfair.

(You also now have to confirm you have read and understand our terms and conditions)

If this is the first time you have used the Grey Horse bot you may get this error.

INVALID_USER_ID or INVALID_VENDOR_SOFTWARE_IDIf you do, please do not panic. It can take up to 24hrs for your betfair username to be addedto their API (sometimes longer at weekends). You will get this error until your username hasbeen added.

If you have used the bot before and come back as a subscriber you may get “UnauthorisedLogin”

Once you have successfully logged in a statement will appear in the bottom left of the mainwindow

Betfair API hit counter

You may notice that when you log in this begins to change number values, this is a newfeature we have included in the bot to count the number of calls it makes to the betfair API.Some of you may be aware that betfair are making some changes to their charging structureto people who make high numbers of hits to the website over a short period of time.

The hit counter shows current hits on the left hand side and the maximum hits in 1 second persession on the right hand side

Betfair’s set limit for the charge is over 20 hits per second, we have now included a limiter onthe options screen that allows the bot to reschedule non-essential API calls to allow the bot toperform the more complicated functions whilst staying within the limit.

The Grey Horse Bot

© Sporting Bots Limited

As you can see here this can be set to whatever you wish to use, please remember that if youare using multiple bots on one username you will need to calculate the usage of each bottogether.

PLEASE NOTEThorough testing of the API hit counter has shown that it stays within betfair limits for themajority of bot functions, however we have found that it can sometimes hit over 20 times persecond during trading in play with under £2 bets

The GHB has two modes (at the moment) Manual and Automatic.

Manual mode allows you to choose the races and runners that you want to bet, where asAutomatic will allow you to set a range of parameters that the bot follows. You still have toselect the races in Automatic mode.

So first you have to decide which mode you want the GHB to be in. To do this, go to Action >Bot Configuration.

Below is the screen you will see.

The Grey Horse Bot

© Sporting Bots Limited

For the moment I would turn everything on (tick each box) and pick what mode you want touse the GHB in.

Once you have applied your settings you will be prompted to restart the bot

At this stage the GHB will ask you if you:

Just choose “No” because you have no session information yet

You can tell at anytime what mode the bot is working in by looking at the top in the blue areaof the GHB.

Manual

Automatic.

The Grey Horse Bot

Next we need to look at the options that do not change whether you are in Manual orAutomatic mode.

The screen you get will look similar to this.

We will start at top left and then work our way left to right through each option available abovethe Auto and Manual tabs.

The GHB looks at many of these options constantly when it is started. If you decide to changethem during live mode then you must click ok for them to take effect. If you can it is best toquickly stop and restart the bot as well, but only if this is in between racing or trading.

Again these are going to be quick descriptions just to get you going. Please read the fullmanual or the videos for more details of each.

Username - Stores your Betfair/Betdaq username.

Greyhounds/Horse/Footy/Tennis/Cricket/Snooker/Rugby/American Football – Selectwhich market you are going to bet on.

Max API Rate – As mentioned above this limits the amount of calls per second the GHB canmake to the API

Live Trading – This means the bot will be placing bets for real so be careful.

Paper Trading – The bot will only pretend to bet, this best when you are first starting out.

Options Tabs

Stop Profit/Loss Tab

Stop at Profit – Bot will stop when it reaches or passes this figure. Set as a normal figure, so5.00 will mean the bot stops if your profit reaches or passes 5.00

Stop at Loss - Bot will stop when it reaches or passes this figure. This must be a minusfigure. So -5.00 will stop the bot if you lose £5.00 or more

PL stop based on bank % - Bot will use the stop at profit/loss boxes as a percentage of yourcurrent bank

Continuous Profit - Ticking this box will automatically reset your profitlimit when reached to allow for continuous betting throughout the day.

Stop at bank profit/loss - The bank balance profit/loss stop allows you to set a specific bankfigure for the bot to stop betting at.

Stop after (Wins) - Bot will stop when it reaches this figure. Do not set to “0” or the bot willstop straight away. If you want to stop after 1 win the set to “1”. Set to 999 if you do not wantto use this option.

Stop after (Losses) - Bot will stop when it reaches this figure. Do not set to “0” or the bot willstop straight away. If you want to stop after 1 win the set to “1”. Set to 999 if you do not wantto use this option.

Out of sequence – This tells the bot to count your stop after wins/lossesnot in consecutive order, this can work independently for wins or losses

Stop (number of races) – Ignore this for now and leave at “0”. See themain manual for a description.

The Grey Horse Bot

Continue to paper trade after threshold reached – This tells the GHBto switch to paper trade mode after your stop/loss limit is reached

Stop profit/loss notes

Just a couple of things... Please remember that the stop/loss works when you hit or pass yourtarget. The GHB does not work out what your next bet is going to be and then stops, if itmeans you will go over these targets. The bot keeps running until any of these targets aremet.

Staking Tab

THIS OPTION IS NOW DISABLED TO COMPLY WITH THE GAMBLING COMMISIONLAWS.PLEASE SEE MEMBERS AREA TO ACTIVATE THIS FEATURE AND FOR FURTHERDETAILS:

Use excel staking - Leave this disabled for now, please read the excel staking document forinfo:http://www.greyhorsebot.co.uk/members/GHB-Excel-Feature.pdf

Staking (0 disabled) – “1” This means all your losses will be put on to the next bet. “2” orabove means it will split your losses by the number you choose and try to make it back overthe same amount of races. So if you choose “3” the GHB will split your losses by 3 and stakethat same amount over 3 races. If you lose during this time the GHB will recalculate yourloses again.

Maximum staking tries - This allows you to set a maximum limit to the amount of lossesGHB will take while trying to recover losses. Once this limit has been hit GHB will return toyour normal stake. To disable this feature set it to 99

Max staking value - This option was conceived to be an added “safety blanket” when usingthe standard loss recovery options. And allows you to specify as value that you wish to beyour maximum limit when staking.

Leave out normal stake during staking - Exactly what it says, do not include your normalstake if you are having to use the staking plan after a loss.

Add betfair commission in stake – The GHB will work out your approx commission and addit to your stake.

Carry forward losses – keep this un-ticked for now and see the manual for more information

Ignore races if P/L not settled. – This simply cancels the race if the result from the onebefore has not been updated by betfair. This is important if you are using staking.

The Grey Horse Bot

© Sporting Bots Limited

Use inferred winner - The inferred winner feature extends the “ignore race if PL not settledoption” and forces settlement of the market which is calculated by the bot based on what wecall “inferred winner”. The bot will predict the winner of the race at suspension and once themarket is closed for more than a certain time with no settlement GHB will calculate the PL andsettle the market

*PLEASE NOTE*The inferred winner option will only apply to UK win markets that feature in runningbets. Use of the function on the staking tab confirms that you agree to the additionalterms and conditions of the staking feature

Trading tab

Enabled Trading – Tick this to tell the GHB to try to trade out of any bet. Please see themanual or my videos for more information about this feature. Keep this un-ticked at themoment.

Session tab

Session bank - Using a “session bank” allows you to segregate a section of your betfairbalance to be used in the current betting session. So for example:

Let’s say that you have £1000 in your betfair UK wallet.. and want to bet to a percentage ofbank but do not wish to use the whole back.

Setting a live session bank figure of £500 will allow you to use half of your current bank as afigure to work with.

This also will act as your paper trading bank automatically in paper trading mode

Start betting TTS(sec) before start– This is when the bot should start looking at the marketto place a bet. This is the advertised off on betfair. So “60” would mean start looking at themarket 60 seconds before the advertised off time.

The Grey Horse Bot

© Sporting Bots Limited

Check odds only once – leave off for now see manual for more details.

Stop betting TTS before start- leave off for now see manual for more details.

Paper trading bank - This feature allows you to set a paper trading bank figure, which willupdate just like your real betfair bank when paper trading, this figure will be carried over tonew sessions to allow you to continue testing a strategy on a rolling bank.

You can use this feature in exactly the same way as live mode which allows you to use

- Rolling stake % of bank- Rolling liability % of bank- Staking

When you switch back over to live mode the live bank will update with your true bank whenyou press the start button.

In-play tab

Go in running if not matched– if you tick this then the bot will continue in- running (whenavailable) to try and place your bet.

Wait before betting in running- Is connected to in-play and just waits a moment for prices tosettle down before trying to make a bet.

Stop betting TAS (Inplay) – Tells the GHB to stop attempting to place a bet in the market atyour set value after the start of the race.

Ladder Stakes tab

Here you can set a different stake depending on the odds of your selection. Leave this turnedfor now see manual for more details.

The Grey Horse Bot

Dutching tab

This tab is the master liability and target profit controls for the new dutching feature. This isthe name most commonly used for splitting a set liability between a number of ranked runnersin order of

Runner 1 matched at 3.00 = £0.46Runner 2 matched at 4.90 = £0.28Runner 3 matched at 5.00 = £0.26

For in depth information about the dutching feature please see the full manual

Non runners tab

Number of runners – Here you can tell the GHB to bet only if the total number of runners ina race is over or under a certain figure or within a range, you can also use this for manualmode

There are various options for excluding non-runners, please see main manual for details

Now we will look at the options for Auto and Manual mode starting with Auto Mode.

The Grey Horse Bot

Horse Forms

*Please note that this function is only available for Horse Racing and in the UK/IREmarkets

This feature allows you to set betting conditions based around certain aspects of form datathat can be pulled out of the API. The bot will then apply these conditions once it reaches yourstart betting TTS.

For in depth information about the horse forms feature please see the full manual

Auto Mode settings.

In Auto mode you are setting the bot up to select runners purely based on the criteria that youhave set so it is imperative that you are sure about your settings.

Auto select mode has the back and lay options on separate tabs, this is because you can nowset the GHB to back and lay independently on the same market based on specific oddstrigger ranges

Here is an example of how this can work

Lets say that you want to back and lay on the same market

Back a selection if it falls into odds range 5.00 – 10.00

And lay a selection if it falls into odds range 1.02 – 4.99

GHB can now place bets in this way governed by your odds trigger ranges.

The Grey Horse Bot

© Sporting Bots Limited

So if we receive a match on a runner at 2.5 GHB will lay that runner or runners, it will thencontinue to scan the back side of the market for a match at 6.5 (or whatever is within yourodds range) – However this function will not back and lay the same runner on that market.

This is a feature that was suggested to us many times and after some research we havefound it could be very useful. Although this somewhat complicates the basic back and laysettings, it can be set to either back or lay only back ticking the back or lay boxes as shownbelow

The settings for each of these tabs are identical, one reflects back settings and the otherreflects lay settings..

Stake – This is the amount you want to bet no matter what odds.If you put £5 in the box and the odds were 2.95 (lay), your liability would be:(2.95 -1) X 5 = 9.75

Liability – Your stake is worked out on the odds on offer:If you put in the box that your maximum liability is £10, and the odds on offer were 2.95, thenyour stake would be 10 / (2.95 -1) = £5.12.

Liability Percent of Bank- This function enables you to limit your liability on the lay bets to apercentage of your current bank

Stake Percent of Bank - The bot will take your current bank and divide it by the % you haveused. Please remember that we advise you stick to minimum bet rule of £2 however you canplace bets at a value you wish, we recommend that you place at a minimum of 0.10p

Target Profit - This setting allows to to set a target profit figure and the bot will calculate yourstake based on the figure entered. This works in 2 different ways depending on weather youare backing or laying

Ladder Stakes – (See earlier in the manual) for those of you that prefer to stake according tothe odds you now can. This option is pretty limitless and will allow you to have a stake for justabout as many odd ranges as you like. Please Note one thing here. Please overlap odds.

Odds Trigger range - You can set a low (left hand box) and high (right hand box) oddsrange. This means the GHB will only try to place a bet/lay when one of the traps is betweenthese prices. Make sure you have the Best Odds box ticked for this to work. The Triggerrange is also used in conjunction with the Ladder Stakes.

The Grey Horse Bot

Odds type

Best – see above, this needs to be ticked to make the trigger range work.

Reverse -Ask for the odds on the opposite side of you bet. So if you are backing you will beasking for the odds available on the lay side.

SP – This feature involves making use of the new Betfair SP for inplay betting we recommendthat you leave this off for now and see the main manual for further instruction

Custom (previously actual odds)- This is different to the trigger range. If “Best odds” is un-ticked, then the bot will only place a back/lay if it can get a match to the exact odds entered inthe box below

Sum of odds – This feature can instruct the GHB to bet only if the combined odds on yourselected runners reaches or exceeds a certain figure, we recommend that you leave this as itis for now and see the main manual for further instruction

There are other tabs available here but we recommend that you check the manual beforeturning these on

General Tab

Back/Lay all runners within price range – If you tick this option then the GHB will bet onany runner (this could be multiple runners) in a race that meets your criteria.

Bet by rankThis function replaces the “or use” option that we was included up until v2.0.1.8 and allowsyou to back/lay up to 6 runners in 1 race by ranked odds

This can be done in 2 ways1)

Using the default option as shown above will place a bet on the 1st

and 2nd

best rankedrunners based on your master odds trigger range.

The Grey Horse Bot

2)

Double clicking on the default box will allow you to set specific odds triggers for eachindividual runner

For more information about the remaining features in the area please refer to the full manualor the online help pages www.greyhorsebot.co.uk/help as these contain video tutorials

Manual Mode settings

The settings you will see in the options screen for manual select mode will be far fewer thanthose in the auto mode screens; this is because in manual select mode, most of the decisionsfor bet placement are left up to you. The bot will automatically place the bets however youneed to specifically tell it what to bet on.

This is particularly useful if you are following tipsters or generating selections for your own ora purchased system.

Back / Lay Only: In order to speed up the time it takes to set the GHB up in Manual Mode wehave added these options for pre-set configuration. So in the case above when you add arace (see later) it will automatically be pre-filled with the settings you establish here. Whenselecting a runner it will also automatically highlight it as a “back” or “lay” depending what youhave set on this option

The Grey Horse Bot

Make sure you have the Best Odds box ticked for this to work. The Triggerrange is also used in conjunction with the Ladder Stakes.

SP % - This is for in play only we advise leaving this alone for now – see the main manual forfurther instruction

Bet on any ( best only on the priced runner)

This option was added at the request of some of our manual mode users who enjoy thecontrol of manual mode but wanted to make use of this auto function.

The idea behind this option is that in some races you may have a number of namedselections... However only want to bet on the best priced selection within your odds triggerrange. Ticking the box highlighted above allows you to do this

Exclude favourite

This tells the GHB to not bet on your manual selection should it become the favourite beforethe race begins or at the time of bet placement

Must be favourite

This tells the GHB to only place a bet on your selection if it is the favourite before the racebegins or at the time of bet placement.

Ok that’s the options screen covered for both auto and manual select mode, next we moveonto adding markets to the bot.

The Grey Horse Bot

Adding Markets

This is where you get to set up the actual races which we refer to as “Markets”.

Clicking on the “Add Market” option above will open a screen similar to this.

The first time you load horse racing markets for the day you will notice that the “getting marketinformation” box appears and the “enumerating markets” progress bar will begin counting up.This is the GHB gather all of the market information such as course type and distance.

Once the market information has been loaded the screen will look like this

The Grey Horse Bot

© Sporting Bots Limited

You can then use the filters along the top of the screen to display the markets that you wish toload for example:

If you only wish to see all UK win markets you would tick the boxes below

And the screen will update to your requirements

You can select one market by clicking on the one you wish to load in or by holding down your“Ctrl” key you can select multiple races.

The Grey Horse Bot

If you want to load in a range of markets simply click the first one in the range and whileholding down your “Shift” key click on the last one in the range and they will all be highlightedready to load in

Once you have selected your markets, just hit OK

Auto load markets

Ticking the auto load markets option tell the GHB to automatically load all markets that fallwithin your selected market type criteria. Simply tick the auto load box and select the firstmarket in your filtered list, Hit OK and the bot will automatically add all markets once youpress start.

This will continue to automatically add the markets if you wish to leave the bot running 24/7

Please note that this currently applies to horse racing and greyhounds only and will work bestin auto select mode.

You do not need to do anything further except hit start (see later). The GHB will look for therunner that matches your price guide.

You will notice that all races entries on the main screen are RED, this is to warn you that youhave not selected runners on these races.

Now double click with your mouse on any of the races.

This will open a new screen like this.

The Grey Horse Bot

© Sporting Bots Limited

When you first open this screen you will see that all runners are “Greyed” out but simplyticking one of the boxes to the left of the trap you are interested in will display this.

Before we go any further I would like to explain an important point. This is typical toGreyhound Racing on Betfair.

You may have noticed that when looking at Greyhound races on Betfair that sometimes theyshow just the Trap number and other times the name of the runner. The GHB gets all itsrunner information from Betfair so the same will apply in the above screen.

You will also notice that the settings that you applied back in the options screen will be carriedover

However you can adjust these settings by clicking in the area you wish to change

You can select multiple runners.

The Grey Horse Bot

(Please Note: Selecting more than 1 runner will turn off the staking plan completelyand all runners will be staked as per each individual setup.)

This shows the flexibility of the GHB.

Clicking “Ok” will set the race card and you will notice that the race which you have justselected a runner in has now turned to black on the main market screen.
