We love kids! But sometimes services are too long for even the happiest child. So ... • For infants we have nursery care in the Church House, first floor. • For children from 3’s through 7th grade, we have a wonderful Church School program during our 9:00 hour.• And if your kids get squirmy, the Church Parlor has toys; the service is amplified in the Parlor and the seats are comfortable!

Worship of God through Prayer:Sharing our Joys and ConcernsWe welcome your prayer concerns. You may write them into the prayer request book in the Narthex, or contact the pastors.

Pastoral Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer (using “debts”/”debtors”)

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen.

Worship of God through Giving:(Note: We give in many ways, by various means. Some give monthly, quarterly, yearly, credit card, by mail or automatic withdrawals. Yet it is still important to “present our offerings” on the altar as part of genuine worship, our way of giving thanks to God.)OffertoryDrummer Boy (Carol of the Drum)

ADVENT ON THE HILLOur Advent Devotional is a popular tradition at our

church. Sponsored by our Deacons and written by our members it expresses such depth of personal faith.

This year’s theme is Faith, Hope and Love, applied to scriptures from throughout the Bible, including the Christmas story. Today, several of our writers will

share their devotion as our Christmas Sunday Sermon.

CHURCH NOTES

WELCOME … to one of our most delightful weekends of the year! Last night, our Church School children performed their Christmas Pageant at a special Saturday-evening worship service… this morning, they do it again at our 9:00 hour! Thanks to all our cows, angels, stars, characters, and narrators, for all your time and energy!Visitors: Welcome! Want to know more about us? Take a bag home from our Visitors’ Table, just outside the front door.At our 9:00 a.m. service, you have been greeted by Deacon Emily Orben and our Junior Deacons Sam Nielsen and Ted Orben. At our 10:30 a.m. service, you have been greeted by Deacon Emily Orben, our Junior Deacons Hannah Sharpe and Caroline Simon, and our Junior Greeter Keaton Vogel. Junior Deacons assisting with Church School are Alex Poulter, Charlotte Powers, Adam Savino, Ben Schwinn, and Henry Selden. Our crib room helper today is Riley Kenney.A note about children in worship: We love them! But if you’d prefer to enjoy worship on your own, our Church Nursery for infants-toddlers is across the street in the Church House. Special beepers/pagers are available to parents so that they may be quietly contacted during the worship service if their child misses them! If your child in worship becomes restless or unhappy, please make use of the Parlor (through the double doors by the choir loft, or head outside and through the side doors). There is a comfortable space there for your child to play with toys and a speaker which carries the service. The poinsettias on the communion table are given by Lynn Davies in loving memory of her parents, Nessie and James Rankin.

If you or a loved one is hospitalized, please contact us, or have someone contact us. Hospitals do not contact us independently.

Many thanks for helping our pastoral ministryRemembering our Soldiers

This I Believe: The Personal Philosophies of Remarkable Men and Women, by Jay Allison. Based on the NPR series of the same name, This I Believe features eighty Americans, from the famous to the unknown, completing the thought that the book's title begins. Each piece compels readers to rethink not only how they have arrived at their own personal beliefs but also the extent

to which they share them with others.  What is your "personal credo"?  We'll be chatting about this in January (just a little too much going on during December)... Sunday, January 22nd, led by Rachel!!

A VERY Special Opportunity! Our very own Debbie Noyes, artist extraordinaire, has created handmade greeting cards (for all sorts of occasions) which she is making available to purchase. In addition to that, she is donating ALL of the sales to Pivot House and Pennies for People! These beautiful cards will be available at the office and in the Narthex, for only $5 per card (you’d pay $7.99 or more for a card like this at the Hallmark store). Take a look and buy a few for yourself or others…

they would make a very special gift! Thank you, Debbie!Needed: Folks to be our Advent Wreath Candlelighters and Greeters on Christmas Eve: GHCC has a lovely tradition of inviting families and individuals to participate during the Advent Season by lighting the Advent candles during one of the Advent worship services.  We are in need of Candlelighters for our 11pm Christmas Eve services.  ALSO NEEDED: Greeters for a few of our Christmas Eve Services (7 or 11pm).  If you would like to be part of this, you can contact our Church Office at [email protected]. It’s a wonderful family activity!

Writers needed too! With our beautiful Advent devotional such a success, we are now recruiting writers for our Lenten Devotional. As with the Advent booklet, writers for the Lenten booklet will be given a scripture to think about, and invited to write

a brief meditation for it. Please let us know if you’d be willing! Contact the office at [email protected] good news from our IIConn refugee group … December is a busy month for iiconn and the Refugee Committee.  This week, we are setting up an apartment for a family from Afghanistan, a dad and mom and a 3 year old boy and a 1 year old girl, and on Dec. 22, a single mom is arriving from the Congo with her 3 children, a 10 year old boy, a 7 year old girl, and a 3 year old boy.  Take a look at our Amazon Wish List for Refugee Families… Go to our website

under “News and Events” and click on the link there, purchase what you would like to donate, and it will be delivered directly to the church.  This is a wonderful way help us welcome them to their new homes with new sheets and warm blankets and soft new towels.  Also, these families will need some warm winter coats. Please contact Kathy Rafsky [email protected] or Pam Dies [email protected] if you have some gently used coats to donate!

Bobby Kaps Jump for EB — January 1st Southport Harbor’s Ye Yacht Yard…EB (Epidermolysis Bullosa) is often described as the worst disease you’ve never heard of — it’s a severely painful and life-threatening skin fragility disorder affecting children from birth, EB is the reason dozens of polar plungers will return to Southport's Ye Yacht Yard for the 10th annual “Jump for EB” on January 1st, 2017 (9:30 a.m. gather, 10:00 a.m. jump). Renamed for 2017 and beyond, the plunge will now also honor the indelible memory of Bobby Kaps, a trailblazing jumper who was fiercely dedicated to this yearly event to raise both awareness and money for EB research. Bobby passed away in September 2016 after courageously battling brain cancer, but he always knew that a few minutes in icy water would pale in comparison to the courage needed to face a lifetime of EB.  All are welcome.  Jump, cheer, or simply support this life-changing cause. Many supporters will be there with free hot chocolate and dry towels. Please visit bobbykapsjumpforeb.com for more information, and we hope to see you on January 1st, 2017.  Women’s Literacy Program Needs Volunteers! Mercy Learning Center is seeking volunteers to teach English, reading, and math in its tutoring program. Tutors meet 2x weekly for 2 hours each session. A one day training is required. For more information or to register for training please contact Lynn Gabriel, 203-334-6699 or [email protected] … Educate a Woman, Educate a Family!!

Words to ANTHEM by Don Besig and Nancy PriceAre we ready for the babe of Bethlehem to be born in a lowly stall?  Are we ready to greet the tiny little King who will come to save us all? Are we ready for the star of Bethlehem to appear in the wintry sky? Are we ready to follow anywhere it leads, and let its light fill all our lives?REFRAIN:  Prepare ye the way for the King of Glory, once again proclaim the wondrous story.  God will send His own true Son, but will we know Him when He comes? Are we ready for the song of Bethlehem to declare our Savior's birth? Are we ready to join the angels as they sing, and spread the news to all on earth?REFRAINAre we ready for the Babe of Bethlehem, God's true and promised Son?Are we ready to greet the tiny li9ttle King and will we know Him when He comes? Will we know Him when He comes?

Words to Angels' Carol by John RutterHave you heard the sound of the angel voices ringing out sweetly, ringing out so clear?  Have you seen the star shining out so brightly as a sign from God that Christ the Lord is born?Have you heard the news that they bring from heaven to the humble shepherds who have waited long?   Gloria in excelsis Deo!  Hear the angels sing their joyful song.He is come in peace in the winter's stillness, like a gentle snowfall in the gentle night; He is come in joy like the sun at morning filling all the world with radiance and with light. He is come in love as the child of Mary; in a simple stable we have seen his birth:  Gloria in excelsis Deo!  Hear them sing "Peace on earth".He will bring new light to a world in darkness, like a bright star shining in the skies above; He will bring new hope to the waiting nations when he comes to reign in purity and love.  Let the earth rejoice at the Savior's coming; let the heavens answer with the joyful morn:  Gloria in excelsis Deo!  Hear the angels sing "Christ is born"

Words to Mary Did You Know? (9am service)Mary did you know that your baby boy will one day walk on water?Mary did you know that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new? This child that you've delivered, will soon deliver you

Mary did you know that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?Mary did you know that your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod? And when you kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God

Mary did you know, Mary did you know, Mary did you know

The blind will see, the deaf will hear and the dead will live againThe lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb

Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?Mary did you know that your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
