GROOM Christo Anthony after having the brilliant She’s A Maneater in his care for a

short while has worked diligently over many hours to keep the five-year-old bay mare in tip-top shape.

The 26-year-old Anthony got the responsibility of grooming She’s A Maneater in mid-year and under his care, the mare won the None Such Sprint over six furlongs (1,200m), a Graded Stakes event over seven and a half furlongs (1,500m) and the Gold Cup over seven furlongs (1,400m).

Anthony and She’s A Maneater then won the Superstakes, which the mare was winning for a third-consecutive year to become the second horse and the first female horse to do so, joining Mark My Word, who achieved the feat in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Menudo holds the record of winning the Superstakes for four-consecutive years in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002.

Last Saturday, She’s A Maneater reaped the ultimate by winning the Diamond Mile for the second time. The Natural Selection — Ahwhofah offspring won by five lengths in a new Stakes record time of 1:35.1.

“Four months ago, I got She’s A Maneater to look after. The first race she ran for me as the groom was the None Such Sprint over six furlongs and she won well. She then won the Gold Cup, which was my biggest win at the time and from the Gold Cup, the Superstakes, then my biggest race.

“Now She’s A Maneater has taken the Diamond Mile and to tell the truth I have never been happier in my life. I feel more like a man now in myself and I just want to work harder. I feel great and certain people that I am around now look up to me, as they see the passion I have for my work, which I take very seriously.

“When I just got She’s A Maneater, many people down here (Caymanas Park) told me that I am not going to win any races with her. They said if I don’t know what I am doing, I am not going to win any races with her for the rest of the year and see it here, I have won five out of five with her,” the Waterford High School graduate shared.

He quickly added: “None of my achievements so far would be possible without the trainer, Wayne DaCosta. Big up to Mr DaCosta for giving me She’s A Maneater and

for his support.” Preparations for big

races have always been a rough and hard task but Anthony repeated many times that he loves what he does and so going the extra mile is not a

problem. “From I got her,

she was ok but she was not eating well

because she had a cut in her mouth that was affect-ing her a lot. “Eventually

we had to change the bit that she was working in because that was what gave her the cut, and that worked.

“From then She’s A Maneater has been healthy. In the mornings, the

trainer had an apprentice rider on her but right now only Omar Walker alone can exercise her.

“Coming down to like the Superstakes, I have to put down even more serious work. If I iced her like two times a week, I started to ice her like four times plus I see to it that she always has sawdust in her stall so that she can get a good lay down. I try very hard to see that she always stays healthy,” Anthony offered.

Anthony said that he spends most of his time with She’s A Maneater because of the amount of love he has received from the mare.

“Even when I win races with her and I take her to the testing barn for the urine sample, she doesn’t want me to leave her and that shows me that she loves me but dedication is the key as having this type of horse, you have to dedicate yourself to being around her. I stay around her even more than I spend at my home,” Anthony revealed.

IT was a case of “easy like Sunday morning” when The Supreme Racing Guide visited the stables of trainer Wayne

DaCosta, the day after She’s A Maneater, with jockey Omar Walker in the saddle, won the Diamond Mile for a second time last Saturday (November 9, 2019), as the record topping mare was active and playful in her stall as if it was just another day at the office.

She’s A Maneater stood tall , looking quite serene, as racing pundits were still in amaze-ment that at five, the mare in 2019 won the Legal Light Trophy, the None Such Sprint, the Gold Cup, a third-consecutive Superstakes and a second Diamond Mile to record for the year seven starts with six wins.

She’s A Maneater was a very comfortable five-length winner in the Diamond Mile in a new Stakes record of 1:35.1, beating stable companion Stranger Danger and Toona Ciliata.

“So far so good for She’s A Maneater. She just left a handful of feed last night (Saturday) and she’s happy this morning (Sunday),so ev-erything seems good with her.

“The victory has not quite soaked in as yet. I am still thinking how fantastic she was coming into the Diamond Mile. She was working so well before the race it was scary. In the mornings she wanted to pace around the racetrack as she didn’t want to canter easy.

“She wanted to pace around so much that

the last two days before the Diamond Mile, we carried her out at five o’clock in the mornings, in the dark, to work her by herself so she wouldn’t see any other horse on the track. But she is ‘Maneater’ and she knows what to do on a race day,” DaCosta told The Supreme Racing Guide.

“We have to rate her as one of the best, if not the best to ever to race at Caymanas Park. She has won from five-and-a-half furlongs to a mile -and-a-half. Very few horses can stake that claim, so I think, she’s one of the best,” the 18-time champion conditioner added.

When asked if She’s A Maneater would race again for the season, DaCosta replied: “Yes, we will see her again. Not quite sure when but we will see her before the season finishes.”

There were many twists and turns over the two-day Diamond Mile racing carnival

(Friday, November 8 – Saturday, November 9) as the hustle for the trainers’ championship intensified with a month-and-a-half to go.

Anthony Nunes started the Diamond Mile weekend with a lead of over $11 million but his main rival, 18-time champion Wayne DaCosta, was still within mathematical reach of that lead.

On opening day, Nunes reigned supreme and significantly increased his monetary advantage with five winners to DaCosta’s two after 11 races were contested.

Nunes got rolling with Royal Approach, who was awarded the second race following the disqualifi-cation of Eroy.

DaCosta answered immediately with King Arthur in Division 11 of the $900,000 maiden special weight for two-year-olds.

DaCosta then took the sixth event with Big Black Nation, who won a $600,000 claiming event for a 2-1 lead on the Friday card.

Then the Nunes winning train left the station at top speed.

In the seventh race he saddled Latapy to victory in a $900,000 Restricted Allowance event.

In the eighth, Prince Charles demon-strated his improvement by taking Division 1 of the $1.35 million Supreme Ventures Diamond Sprint Trophy.

Propelled by the return of jockey Dane Nelson, Nunes made it four winners when Princess Ava came with a telling stretch run to win Division 2 of the $1.35 million Supreme Ventures Diamond Sprint Trophy.

Now surging at top speed, Nunes closed his first-ever fiver in the 10th offering when Legality and Nelson made it look easy in the $1.4 million

Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Stakes.The question after the Friday,

Diamond Mile race day was clear — could DaCosta stage a comeback?

The answer revealed itself on Diamond Mile Day itself.

DaCosta got his first winner with Lovely Day, who won the $1.1 million Power 106 FM Radio trophy.

Nunes replied with Graydon, the winner of the $1.1 million Jamaica Observer Trophy, to level the score at 1-1.

DaCosta then took the last three events on the card starting with Lady Blue in the $1.4 million Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission Chairman’s Trophy to go 2-1 up on Nunes.

The stage was now set for the fifth running of the Diamond Mile.

In the richest race on the local calendar, DaCosta triumphed with a one-time finish, She’s A Maneater and Stranger Danger. Not to be outdone Nunes’ Toona Ciliata finished third and Supreme Soul fifth to ease the impact somewhat.

The DaCosta Saturday wave held sway in the final and 24th race over the two days as My Little Princess turned out to be an easy winner of the $1.3 million Supreme Ventures Group Classic Trophy.

So, over two days and 24 races, both DaCosta and Nunes were level at six wins each.

In the end, mainly because of the Diamond Mile result, Nunes leads with over $5 million.

The question now is, can DaCosta overtake Nunes? Let’s wait and see over the 11-race days left in the year.

Nunes still holds the key in trainers’ championship after pulsating Diamond Mile weekend

AFTer her landslide victory in the fifth running of the Diamond Mile on Saturday, November 9, She’s A Maneater soared to the top stakes earners’ list for 2019.

The bay mare, who was in second place behind Triple Crown winner Supreme Soul for most of the year, went into a massive lead to be crowned top earner for 2019.

Supreme Soul is current-ly in quarantine in Florida, USA, as he prepares to fly Jamaica’s colours in the

Caribbean Classic scheduled for Gulfstream Park on Sunday,

understands that on his return to Jamaica, Supreme Soul is

not going to race for the rest of the year.

Of special note on the top 10 earners’ list is the presence of two-year-old Wow Wow, who was victorious on Diamond Mile Day in the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries — Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association Yearling Sale Trophy. That win brought the bay colt’s earnings to $7,415,400 for the number three spot.

The top 10 list of earners is dominated by the three-year-olds who occupy six slots, with the older horses having three slots and then there is the juvenile.

TRIPLE Crown champion of 2019, Supreme Soul, left the island for the

United States on Monday (November 11) from the Norman Manley Interna-tional Airport (NMIA), just two days after finishing fifth in the fifth running of the Diamond Mile, as part of his preparation to run in the Caribbean Classic.

The Caribbean Classic takes place on Sunday, December 8 at Florida’s Gulfstream Park.

The Anthony Nunes trainee will be kept in quarantine in Florida for seven days and will be attended to during his time in quarantine by personnel based in Florida.

The groom of Supreme Soul, Adrian Taylor, who accompa-nied his horse to NMIA, did not travel with the chestnut colt on Monday but is expected to be present when the official period of quarantine ends after which he will be responsible for the day-to-day care of his charge at Gulfstream Park.

Supreme Soul left his stable at Caymanas Park and was trailed to the NMIA in Kingston under the supervision of Dr Sophia Ramlal, senior veteri-narian at the regulatory body for racing in Jamaica, the Jamaica Racing Commission. The team, along with Supreme Soul, were met at the airport by Government veterinarian Dr Trudi Stewart-Gaynor. The veterinarians monitored the smooth send-off of Supreme Soul from the NMIA.

Nunes is reporting that Supreme Soul has settled well in the US Government operated facility.

“All the reports, I have received thus far, indicate that Supreme Soul travelled without any problems and has settled nicely in his new environment.

”He (Supreme Soul) is expected to be released from quarantine next week Tuesday (November 19), after which he will be stabled at Gulfstream Park. The groom and I will be in Florida by the Tuesday and hopefully, Supreme Soul will be on the track at Gulfstream on Wednesday (November

20),“ Nunes shared with this publication.

Jamaica will also be repre-sented in the Classic by the Lakeland Farm Limited-bred Juice Man who recently won the Trinidad Derby. This pub-lication understands that Juice

Man is already in quarantine in Florida, having travelled there on November 5.

The last occasion a Jamaican horse participated in the Caribbean Classic was in 2008. Then, the country was represented by another

Triple Crown winner, the filly Alsafra trained by Fitznahum “Features” Williams. That 2008 Caribbean Classic took place in Puerto Rico at the Hippodromo Camerero race-track. Alsafra was unplaced in the race.

ANOTHER race, another victory, albeit this time the much-vaunted

Diamond Mile, has become the regular lifestyle of She’s A Maneater.

In winning the 2019 Diamond Mile sponsored by the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission and Supreme Ventures Limited, She’s A Maneater obliged at odds of 3-5.

The Supreme Racing Guide assesses the outcome of this year’s Diamond Mile contested for on Saturday, November 9, at Caymanas Park in the order the horses finished.

FIRST: She’s A Maneater — Greatness is often defined as “consistent and record-break-ing performances at the highest level of any endeavour” and as a racing thoroughbred, no horse in the annals of local horse racing has accomplished more than She’s A Maneater. Without a doubt this once in a lifetime

five-year-old mare has gone beyond the boundaries of ex-pectations and every time she conquers, even erudite writers and pundits are left awestruck by her natural and acquired bril-liance. In winning her second Diamond Mile on Saturday, She’s A Maneater took a step closer to invincibility, and by the way, she is almost there. Her magical Diamond Mile run was She’s A Maneater’s 24th victory from 30 starts, as she became the first horse in Jamaica to earn over $40 million. Then when her Triple Crown victory in 2017, her three-consecutive wins in the Superstakes, the Gold Cup, her other Diamond Mile success in 2017, plus winning from five and a half furlongs to 12 furlongs, are placed together, even the most untrusting observers are forced to admit, that racing fans today are probably witnessing the greatest horse ever to race in Jamaica be it at Caymanas Park, Knutsford Park or Old Harbour. She’s A Maneater is the best female horse to race

in Jamaica and when she races again, let’s remember that we are indeed lucky to be here to witness this great mare perform. Her winning time of 1:35.1 for a mile further underscores his ability. A win for the ages in the Diamond Mile by the Natural Selection — Ahwhofah bred She’s A Maneater. Well done, owner Ian Kong, breeder Winston Kong, groom Christo Anthony, jockey Omar Walker and trainer Wayne DaCosta for presenting and caring for this sparkling “diamond” for the benefit of all.

SECOND: Stranger Danger — The prevailing thought by many is that Stranger Danger was not at his very best in the Diamond Mile with the other angle being, he simply could not manage the onslaught of She’s A Maneater. Nevertheless, Stranger Danger was better than the rest and despite being challenged for third place by Toona Ciliata, he was pulling away in the end. This writer believes that Stranger Danger lost no merit in defeat and

is still going to be one of the top performers in Grade One races next year. As a three-year-old, he can only get better once he stays healthy and with trainer Wayne DaCosta expected to limit the appearance of She’s A Maneater, Stranger Danger is the heir apparent to take over. Let’s wait and see.

THIRD: Toona Ciliata — Like in the recent Superstakes (10 furlongs), Toona Ciliata, despite the presence of his Triple Crown-winning stable companion Supreme Soul, proved once again that at present he is the best local three-year-old in training. Toona Ciliata was prominent through-out in the Diamond Mile while displaying his pace and still had enough in the final two furlongs to hold his gallop. This three-year-old chestnut gelding is “A” class material and the hope is that he will remain sound to campaign at the highest level, which at present is bereft of horses.

F O U R T H : S e n t i e n t

— Continues to show reasonable progress. Sentient was able to beat his Classic nemesis, Supreme Soul once again as he did in the Superstakes, which is a demon-stration that he is improving. He was with the leaders from the off and stayed close by but was outdone by the pure class of the first three. Sentient now has to go through his various conditions and get himself ready to become a part of the highest grade.

FIFTH: Supreme Soul — With the visors on for the first time, Triple Crown hero, Supreme Soul feared a bit better than he did in the Superstakes. Yet, it can be said that better was expected from him, especially since the running of the Diamond Mile he has gone into quarantine as he prepares to run in the Caribbean Classic in early December in the United States. Supreme Soul was very early with the pacesetting group but when the big three acceler-ated leaving the three-furlong point, he simply had no answer. In the straight, Supreme Soul was

one-paced and had to settle for fifth in the end.

SIXTH: Superluminal — Was with the early ones coming from the number 15 draw but Superluminal did not advance in the straight as he usually does. He earned enough to keep his connections happy.

SEVENTH: Dontae — Made it very late as a Diamond Mile par-ticipant following the withdrawal of Saratoga Sight. Dontae was never in the race and even in the straight, where he usually does his best work, could not cope.

EIGHTH: Uncle Frank — This tough campaigner was expected to run much better than he did, which was a disappointment. His name was only called in the race as one of the backmarkers.

NINTH: Summer Sun — Did not show for this race at any time. Summer Sun after his win to gain a Diamond Mile spot was maybe hampered by the number

one draw but he was nowhere around from the start.

TENTH: Another Bullet — The Sprint Champion reared badly when the starter let them go almost dislodging his rider Trevor Simpson and as a result lost any chance of winning or even hitting the board in this rich event. The events leading up to Another Bullet jumping at the start are significant. Television replays are indicating that Another Bullet was being placed in his starting stall (number 11) with the blind-folds on and just at the moment when the attendant was throwing behind the blindfolds, the starter pressed the button and Another Bullet was affected by the action.

ELEVENTH: Fayrouz — Was missing in action throughout and will do way better in the class below.

TWELFTH: Bruce Wayne — Not even the batmobile could have helped. Simply put, Bruce Wayne never had a chance from

the very beginning.

THIRTEENTH: Princess Annie — Probably should not have been in the race from the outset. Yet, she was there and was thoroughly outclassed.

FOURTEENTH: Houdini’s Magic — More and more it is becoming clear that Houdini’s Magic is coming close to the end of what has been a useful career. Did not show in this year’s Diamond Mile at any stage in the race.

FIFTEENTH: Uncle Vinnie — Apart from finishing second to last, Uncle Vinnie was with the early leaders. Then it was a case of steady reversal.

SIXTEENTH: Drummer Boy — Returned to racing after a break and did try to be with early pace. That was all apart from pro-viding apprentice Abigail Able with her first ride in the Diamond Mile — to become the first female jockey to do so.

ANOTHER race, another victory, albeit this time the much-vaunted

Diamond Mile, has become the regular lifestyle of She’s A Maneater.

In winning the 2019 Diamond Mile sponsored by the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission and Supreme Ventures Limited, She’s A Maneater obliged at odds of 3-5.

The Supreme Racing Guide assesses the outcome of this year’s Diamond Mile contested for on Saturday, November 9, at Caymanas Park in the order the horses finished.

FIRST: She’s A Maneater — Greatness is often defined as “consistent and record-break-ing performances at the highest level of any endeavour” and as a racing thoroughbred, no horse in the annals of local horse racing has accomplished more than She’s A Maneater. Without a doubt this once in a lifetime

five-year-old mare has gone beyond the boundaries of ex-pectations and every time she conquers, even erudite writers and pundits are left awestruck by her natural and acquired bril-liance. In winning her second Diamond Mile on Saturday, She’s A Maneater took a step closer to invincibility, and by the way, she is almost there. Her magical Diamond Mile run was She’s A Maneater’s 24th victory from 30 starts, as she became the first horse in Jamaica to earn over $40 million. Then when her Triple Crown victory in 2017, her three-consecutive wins in the Superstakes, the Gold Cup, her other Diamond Mile success in 2017, plus winning from five and a half furlongs to 12 furlongs, are placed together, even the most untrusting observers are forced to admit, that racing fans today are probably witnessing the greatest horse ever to race in Jamaica be it at Caymanas Park, Knutsford Park or Old Harbour. She’s A Maneater is the best female horse to race

in Jamaica and when she races again, let’s remember that we are indeed lucky to be here to witness this great mare perform. Her winning time of 1:35.1 for a mile further underscores his ability. A win for the ages in the Diamond Mile by the Natural Selection — Ahwhofah bred She’s A Maneater. Well done, owner Ian Kong, breeder Winston Kong, groom Christo Anthony, jockey Omar Walker and trainer Wayne DaCosta for presenting and caring for this sparkling “diamond” for the benefit of all.

SECOND: Stranger Danger — The prevailing thought by many is that Stranger Danger was not at his very best in the Diamond Mile with the other angle being, he simply could not manage the onslaught of She’s A Maneater. Nevertheless, Stranger Danger was better than the rest and despite being challenged for third place by Toona Ciliata, he was pulling away in the end. This writer believes that Stranger Danger lost no merit in defeat and

is still going to be one of the top performers in Grade One races next year. As a three-year-old, he can only get better once he stays healthy and with trainer Wayne DaCosta expected to limit the appearance of She’s A Maneater, Stranger Danger is the heir apparent to take over. Let’s wait and see.

THIRD: Toona Ciliata — Like in the recent Superstakes (10 furlongs), Toona Ciliata, despite the presence of his Triple Crown-winning stable companion Supreme Soul, proved once again that at present he is the best local three-year-old in training. Toona Ciliata was prominent through-out in the Diamond Mile while displaying his pace and still had enough in the final two furlongs to hold his gallop. This three-year-old chestnut gelding is “A” class material and the hope is that he will remain sound to campaign at the highest level, which at present is bereft of horses.

F O U R T H : S e n t i e n t

— Continues to show reasonable progress. Sentient was able to beat his Classic nemesis, Supreme Soul once again as he did in the Superstakes, which is a demon-stration that he is improving. He was with the leaders from the off and stayed close by but was outdone by the pure class of the first three. Sentient now has to go through his various conditions and get himself ready to become a part of the highest grade.

FIFTH: Supreme Soul — With the visors on for the first time, Triple Crown hero, Supreme Soul feared a bit better than he did in the Superstakes. Yet, it can be said that better was expected from him, especially since the running of the Diamond Mile he has gone into quarantine as he prepares to run in the Caribbean Classic in early December in the United States. Supreme Soul was very early with the pacesetting group but when the big three acceler-ated leaving the three-furlong point, he simply had no answer. In the straight, Supreme Soul was

one-paced and had to settle for fifth in the end.

SIXTH: Superluminal — Was with the early ones coming from the number 15 draw but Superluminal did not advance in the straight as he usually does. He earned enough to keep his connections happy.

SEVENTH: Dontae — Made it very late as a Diamond Mile par-ticipant following the withdrawal of Saratoga Sight. Dontae was never in the race and even in the straight, where he usually does his best work, could not cope.

EIGHTH: Uncle Frank — This tough campaigner was expected to run much better than he did, which was a disappointment. His name was only called in the race as one of the backmarkers.

NINTH: Summer Sun — Did not show for this race at any time. Summer Sun after his win to gain a Diamond Mile spot was maybe hampered by the number

one draw but he was nowhere around from the start.

TENTH: Another Bullet — The Sprint Champion reared badly when the starter let them go almost dislodging his rider Trevor Simpson and as a result lost any chance of winning or even hitting the board in this rich event. The events leading up to Another Bullet jumping at the start are significant. Television replays are indicating that Another Bullet was being placed in his starting stall (number 11) with the blind-folds on and just at the moment when the attendant was throwing behind the blindfolds, the starter pressed the button and Another Bullet was affected by the action.

ELEVENTH: Fayrouz — Was missing in action throughout and will do way better in the class below.

TWELFTH: Bruce Wayne — Not even the batmobile could have helped. Simply put, Bruce Wayne never had a chance from

the very beginning.

THIRTEENTH: Princess Annie — Probably should not have been in the race from the outset. Yet, she was there and was thoroughly outclassed.

FOURTEENTH: Houdini’s Magic — More and more it is becoming clear that Houdini’s Magic is coming close to the end of what has been a useful career. Did not show in this year’s Diamond Mile at any stage in the race.

FIFTEENTH: Uncle Vinnie — Apart from finishing second to last, Uncle Vinnie was with the early leaders. Then it was a case of steady reversal.

SIXTEENTH: Drummer Boy — Returned to racing after a break and did try to be with early pace. That was all apart from pro-viding apprentice Abigail Able with her first ride in the Diamond Mile — to become the first female jockey to do so.

1 — She’s A Maneater is the first horse in local racing history to earn over $40,000,000.

2 — The next four horses behind She’s A Maneater were all three-year-olds, Stranger Danger, Toona Ciliata, Sentient and Supreme Soul. Hopefully, they will all develop into good “A” class horses.

3 — She’s A Maneater has now won the Triple Crown (1000/2000 Guineas, the Jamaica Derby and the Jamaica St Leger), the Superstakes — three times, the Diamond Mile — two times — and to add to all of those illustrious trophies, She’s A Maneater has also won the Gold Cup plus numerous other Grade One races.

4 — Omar Walker has now won the Diamond Mile three times — two with Seeking My Dream and now with She’s A Maneater. The other jockeys to win the Diamond Mile are Dane Nelson and Robert Halledeen.

5 — She’s A Maneater broke the Stakes Record for the Diamond Mile when she clocked 1:35.1. The old mark was 1:36.2 set by Seeking My Dream, while the track record is 1:34.3 set by Wantin and Havin carrying 48.5 kgs.

6 — She’s A Maneater is the only horse to win the Triple Crown, the Superstakes and the Diamond Mile.

The Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association promoted

2019 Yearling Sale regis-tered a total amount of $173 million in sales. That amount represents a signif-icant increase over last year when the total amount was $144,100,000, a difference of plus $28,900,000.

A total of 148 lots were offered in the the sale cata-logue, of which 11 lots were withdrawn and a further two lots were unsold, leaving 135 lots available for bidders.

Lot 44, a bay filly by Northern Giant – Buyabook, was the top seller on the day at $4.5 million. The buyer was trainer Anthony Nunes for owner Chevan Maharaj.

“We bought the filly earlier in the year from YS (1955) Limited and obviously because of the incentives on horses going through the sale being eligible for three races with good purses, we thought we’d put her through the sale

and if somebody gave us a price that we couldn’t refuse we would sell, but if not, we would bring her back to the stables,” Nunes informed.

Nunes also bought the sec-ond-highest priced yearling, Lot 43 a chestnut colt by Strong Mandate – Moonlight Brew who sold for $3.7 million.

Lot 136, a bred in utero chestnut colt by Drill – Kenzie’s Charm was sold to trainer Wayne DaCosta for $3.6 million.

“Well, he’s beautifully bred, he has good body, he has good side, and good length. This colt has everything in the right places, so we decided to take a chance,” said DaCosta.

AFTER victory in last Saturday’s (November 9) fifth running of the Diamond Mile, She’s A Maneater became the first horse in local racing history to earn over $40 million.

She’s A Maneater, boasting a racing record of 24 wins from 30 starts with one unplaced effort, has accumulated earnings of $46,337, 350.

In second place on the all-time list is former Derby and St Leger winner, Perfect Neighbour coming in at $27,261,500. Perfect Neighbour, who is now deceased, has a race record of 69 starts with 20 victories.

Completing the top three on the list is former Derby and two times winner of the Diamond Mile, Seeking My Dream, with earnings of $26,636,650. The first three horses on the all-time list, She’s A Maneater, Perfect Neighbour and Seeking My Dream, are all conditioned

by champion trainer Wayne DaCosta. Of the top 20 horses on the list, nine

are still active on the track. They are She’s A Maneater (1), Will In Charge (8), Hover Craft (11), Campesino (13), Supreme Soul (14), Chace The Great (15), Another Bullet (16), All Correct, (17) and Houdini’s Magic (18).

Three Triple Crown winners, Supreme Soul, Mark My Word and She’s A Maneater, have made it in the top 20.

The horse with the most recorded wins in the top 20 is I’msatisfied, with 25. Both St Cecelia and She’s A Maneater are tied on 24.

The ‘Wowing’ factor continues with even greater force

ONE of the most pleasing perfor-mances to be recorded by the talented juvenile colt, Wow Wow,

was accomplished in his last victory posted on the Diamond Mile Day of Saturday (November 9), at Caymanas Park.

Running with greater control with his ac-customed rider Ameth Robles in the saddle, Wow Wow ran a fast 1:04.4 for five-and-a-half furlongs or 1,100 metres with the minimum of fuss and had 6 ½ lengths to spare as he improved his winning record to six straight from seven starts. Wow Wow’s latest win was achieved in race one of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission/Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association Yearling Sale Series of races.

Wow Wow last won over the same distance in September in a time of 1:05.1 by 11 lengths, but on Diamond Mile Day in a smooth and effortless run, the Casual Trick - Sarah Baracuda bay colt still carrying top weight of 57.0 kg sped the 1,100 metres distance in a quicksilver time in his prepara-tion for the longer distances to come.

It was a performance which greatly pleased trainer Gary Subratie who has always felt that hard training for the Wow Wow was never the answer.

“He (Wow Wow) showed me today (Saturday) that he can now relax in the early part of a race and for sure he is better served by this move.

“I told the jockey to try and get a good break, don’t force him on the headline and if another horse leads, just relax, take your time and from the three furlongs see what he does from there.

“Do not beat him up too much in the straight and that was perfect. I cannot remember him getting one crack of the

whip while travelling up the straight. So, I am impressed with the performance, which showed that he has more in him to go further.

“We have another two races before the year is finished, so I have to be looking for a training programme for each race. The next race is longer as he will be attempting seven furlongs (1,400 metres) for the first time and he has to learn to relax. That is the key and he demonstrated today that he possesses that ability to relax,” Subratie pointed out

As for owner and breeder of Wow Wow, Michael Bernard, it was another day of success and to feel proud.

“As the breeder of this outstanding two-year-old colt, I am so proud. Six-consecutive wins cannot be scoffed at, plus and even more important for me, Wow Wow shows marked improvement every time he races.

“The wish now is for Wow Wow to remain healthy and strong for his next two races which are set for the end of November and the end of December,” Bernard said.

After witnessing a hum-dinger of a game at the weekend between england’s two big boys, Liverpool and Manchester City, football fans get a second bite of the cherry in a matter of days as South American heavy-weights and arch-rivals Brazil and Argentina square off today (friday, November 15) on Saudi Arabia soil.

EvENT # 1 — INterNAtIoNAL frIeNdLy – BrAzIL vS ArgeNtINA

One of international foot-ball’s most enduring rivalries will enter its latest chapter today when old enemies Brazil and Argentina renew hostilities.

A friendly in name only, the 111th meeting between the two South American heavyweights takes place in the unfamiliar surrounding of the King of Saud University in Saudi Arabia.

A fixture of this magnitude needs no extra hype, but the return of Argentina’s talisman and all-time record goalscor-er Lionel Messi, following a three-month ban only adds to the allure of such a glamours showdown.

The Barcelona captain has missed Argentina’s last four games as a result of the sus-pension, which he received after accusing CONMEBOL (South America’s FA govern-ing body) of corruption during

this summer’s Copa America — a tournament Brazil went on to win after beating Messi’s Argentina in the semi-finals.

Indeed, Argentina go into today’s clash against Brazil on a five-game unbeaten run — their longest for two years — having hammered Ecuador 6-1 in their most recent game last month.

It has been an impressive response to what was a largely underwhelming Copa America tournament for Argentina, despite finishing third, whereas Brazil have seem-ingly suffered the opposite of fortunes and are without a win since lifting the Copa America title in July.

Brazil have drawn three and lost one of their four games since beating Peru in the final, with their most recent two games seeing them being held to 1-1 stalemates by both Senegal and Nigeria last month.

The Brazilians have not endured a longer winless streak since a run of five draws on the bounce between November 2003 and May 2004, incredibly

though, on that occasion it was a 3-1 win over their hated rivals Argentina which got them back to winning ways.

Overall, Brazil still have a more balanced and settled team than their South American rivals, even though they have been disappoint-ing since the Copa America whereas Argentina appear to be on an upward trajectory.

Whether Messi and Aguero’s return will hamper the chemis-try of the team all that remains to be seen, but the likes of those two in any team should at the very least have opposing de-fenders scampering for cover.

America in July, even though they have still won 14 and lost just one of their last 20 matches since the World Cup.

Argentina — are on a high with an unbeaten five-match win streak — this run has seen them scoring 12 goals in their last 3 friendlies against Mexico, Germany and Ecuador while conceding only 3 times.

Both sides — In their last five meetings, Brazil have won three times while Argentina have managed just one win with the other ending in a draw. The Selecao’s also have the upper hand in this rivalry with 46 victories compared to Argentina’s 39 victories.
