message?� To whom was he writing?

What makes Matthew special?

Why was it written?

� To explain how Jesus is the Messiah..the savior of the world� Uses OT prophecies� The New Moses� The ultimate prophet� True interpreter of the law

Behind the scenes

� Church tradition gives authorship to “Matthew”� Mark and Matthew obviously used

many of the same sources� Most scholars say that this Gospel

was written down somewhere between 80 - 90 AD
