Class of 1980 ………. Celebrating 25 years!!!!!

Page 2: The Goni Newsletter

The first annual alumni picnic was held this past June at UTHSCSA. We were pleased to see alumni and their families from the first class of 1980 to the most recent in-coming class of 2008! Kids (and kids at heart) played in the moon bounce while everyone enjoyed free food, drink, and activities courtesy of Horizon Foods (thank you Norma Ford ‘04) and Gentiva HealthCare (thank you Andrew Morgan ‘01). The PTAA is fortunate to have the ability to use UTHSCSA’s great outdoor pavilion and sports fields. Over the next few years, we plan to resurrect some friendly interclass competition on these fields. Expect an alumni picnic at the beginning of every Summer. The alumni picnic will always be free to our PTAA members and their families. We hope that events like this will generate mentorship and future career opportunities for our students. The PTAA is very proud to foster such a relationship between young students and our experienced PT alumni.

Dear PTAA Members, Alumni, Students, Faculty, and Job Board partners: I started this letter prior to the tragedies in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. I wanted this letter to motivate those of you who have not joined the PTAA to join and for those of you who have joined as active members to upgrade to lifetime members. But, in the wake of these horrible events, I understand that there are perhaps more pressing challenges that need your attention. I suspect many of you have already started to donate and contribute to the victims of Katrina. I know of at least a dozen of our alumni in these states and I pray that they and their families are safe. The PTAA will continue to uphold our mission and push forward with fund raising for our endowment for student scholarships. Likewise , we will continue to plan the November 19th Alumni Bash/Reunion with CEUs. If you feel that you have the resources and ability to give back to our students and support the PTAA efforts, then I would encourage you to fill out a membership form. We must always prepare for tomorrow and through a solid membership, the PTAA can better support the education of our future clinicians and make sure our alumni always have access to University’s resources. If you ever have any questions or comments, please email me. Christopher A. Rábago, PT, MPT, MEd. President, UTHSCSA-PTAA www.uthscsa-ptaa.org
