Did you know?Doing something nice for someone

else boosts a chemical in your brain, called seratonin, which

makes you feel happier!

Global Game Changers Vol. 13-2

SHARINGis one easy way to be

nice.

Being nice is good for

your heart! Kids and adults

who do something nice

have healthier hearts.

Once you do something nice,

it becomes easier to do it a second time.

Also, another person might see you and be inspired to do

something nice, too!

Meet Catherine Chung,

Ignite Good!™ SUPERHERO!Our Superhero of the the Month for April is Catherine Chung. She is 10 years old and from New York, New York. We met Catherine during some fun events at the Pottery Barn Kids store in New York City. Catherine is proof that, just like you don’t have to be a big person to be a superhero, that you don’t have to do big things. Small things matter, and Catherine knows that. She Ignites Good! this way: "If I have two or more of something, I always give some to someone else who wants it. I wish everyone will give like that, for then, everyone will be happy."

Catherine, how did you decide to start giving back by sharing so much?My family is caring and thoughtful. We feel sorry for homeless people. Also, we reuse a lot of stu instead of just throwing it away.

I thought that garbage was garbage. How can I reuse things that I might throw away?Garbage is brimming with craft potential. A toy doesn't have to be used only for the purposes it was intended for. You can take the materials and make something incredible.

Cool! Sounds like you’re very inventive. Is that what you are going to do when you grow up?I like doing crafts and thinking about things in a dierent way, but I want to use my creativity to become I a scientist or an inventor when I grow up, and invent something useful or discover something impor-tant.

Sounds like you want to keep helping people, too!Yes. It’s a big part of my life today and it will be in the future, too! I do nice things not because it's the kind thing to do. I do it because it is the right thing to do. I feel like I have to ask to take a hurt friend to the nurse, or follow an upset friend and try to calm him or her down. You do kind acts because you feel that it is the right thing to do and you have to do it. But the weakness of that feeling is that you can ignore that voice telling you what is the right thing to do.

Hopefully none of us ignore that voice. Have you ever inspired your friends to do nice things like you do?No, nobody did anything kind because of me. I think people shouldn't do kind things just because of me. They should know that it is kind to share, and whenever they get a chance, they should share or do other kind things.

So what would be your advice to kids who want to be kind like you. How can they hear their own feeling that something is right? They should remember that you don't have to do big things. Giving someone a small portion of your snack, sharing a toy you have two or more of, passing a piece of paper to someone when they need it, or any other small thing helps. No good act is too small.

That’s great advice. Now tell me a little bit about yourself.I live in New York City with my family, which includes my brother and sister. I’m the oldest.

Great! Sounds like fun living in the Big Apple with your family. We are so glad that we met you. Wel-come to the Global Game Changers Superhero Alliance!

Global Game Changers Vol. 13-2

Drawing ChallengeUsing one of each shape, draw an animal, a person, and an thing.

1) Take a deck of cards and pull out an equal number of cards to players. Make sure one of the cards is the Ace of Spades and one is the Joker.

2) Shufe the cards and deal one to each player. The player can look at his/her card, but shouldn’t show anyone, unless they receive the King of Hearts. The Joker is the Narrator. The player with the Ace of Spades is Krumi.

3) The narrator tells the rest of the group to go to sleep. They bow their heads and close their eyes. Then, the narrator tells Krumi to wake up.

4) The Narrator tells Krumi to wake up. Then the Narrator asks who Krumi would like to infect with apathy. Krumi points silently to another player who’s asleep. The Narrator tells Krumi to go to sleep.

5) The Narrator tells the players to wake up. Then, the Narrator says which player is dead and unable to participate in discussion.

6) The players have 2 minutes to decide who they they think Krumi is. If they are correct, you start a new game. If they are incorrect, the game continues for another round.

7) Play ends when either Krumi is discovered or Krumi has infected more than half of the players.

Optional: An adult can serve as the Narrator, in which case you do not use the Joker card. You can include a King of Hearts card, designating a player as Little Big-Heart/Global Girl. After the Narrator has told Krumi to go back to sleep, s/he can waken Little Big-Heart/Global Girl, and that player can elect to save a player. If LBH/GG saves the same player as was infected, no one is infected for that day. The Narrator should be sure to waken LBH/GG even if the player is infected and cannot save anyone.
