8B Term 4

Principal’s Report

Intensive Swimming Program

Students have begun our intensive swimming program

for this year. Thanks to Mr Hesketh for his organisation

for this activity and to the Years 9 and 10 students for

their help.

Please remember that if you do not hold a season tick-

et for the Barellan Pool then your child/ren are re-

quired to pay $2 entry each day.

Beyond the Line Visit

The teach.NSW Beyond the Line - Rural program gives

university teacher education students a taste of teach-

ing and living in rural and remote NSW. The program

involves week-long orientation and professional experi-

ence visits, providing a snapshot of lifestyle and career

opportunities for teachers in rural and remote areas.

Each year Barellan Central School hosts students partic-

ipating in this program and this week we welcome two

students who are spending the week with us. Mrs

Greig is training as a Science Teacher and Miss Patton

as an English/History Teacher. We trust that they will

enjoy their experience and adventure out into rural

areas throughout their career.

University of Notre Dame Visit

On Thursday this week secondary students will have

the opportunity to participate in activities with medical

students from the University Of Notre Dame in Sydney.

One of the medical students is a past student from Hill-

ston Central School who studied across RAP for Year 11

and 12, Jenna Mewburn.

Presentation Night Trophies

Could all trophies please be returned to allow us to

prepare for this year’s Presentation Night.

A group of six medical students who as part of their

curriculum have chosen to undertake a Social Justice

project visiting schools within rural and remote West-

ern NSW. They are planning to focus upon mental

health, emergency skills, and general medical skills, as

well as information regarding university options post

high school.

Their purpose is to provide a fun and creative environ-

ment for students to discuss the options available for

a future career within health-care, and pursuing ter-

tiary education. Their aims align with the current Ru-

ral High School Visit Program, initiated by the National

Rural Health Students’ Network which looks to ad-

dress the barriers experienced by rural and remote

high school students, such as moving long distances,

managing finances, and achieving high grades whilst

adjusting to a new environment.

They will address these aims by facilitating a series of

interactive activities, which include:

- Emergency First Aid Management

(scenario-based)

- Hygiene Practices

- Clinical Skills including plastering, and slings

- Anatomical Model (‘Gusty Gus’)

- Discussions regarding mental health, risky be-

haviours and confidentiality within health care.

This is a great opportunity for our students.

Study Day

Years 10 and 11 students will head off to Oaklands

Central School on Friday to attend a RAP study day.

This will provide Year 10 with a brief introduction to

their classmates and teachers involved in RAP.

Have a great week.

Welcome to Mrs McDermott, we hope you enjoy working

Swim School runs for the next 2 weeks. Please make sure all clothing is labelled and that the students have a rashi and sun screen. Because 2/3/4 are the first group at the pool it would be easiest for them to wear their swim wear to school under their uniform each morning.

Please ensure students bring underwear to change into following their lesson.

Intensive Swimming Program Swim School has begun for 2014. It will take 2 weeks, depending on weather and student progress. All the students have been placed into a level, based on their swimming ability and last year's results. The schedule is as follows :- Primary: 2/3/4 and 4/5/6 class 9.15 to 10.30. Infants: K/1/2 class - After recess till lunch Secondary: After lunch Year 9 and 10 students will also be assisting with the Infants and Primary groups for this time, meaning no normal lessons for them. It is very important students come to school prepared for swimming. They will need swimmers, rashie and towel, all clearly labelled with their name and $2 for pool entry if they don't have a season ticket. Don't presume swimming won't occur because of weather, come prepared and a decision will be made on the day. If you have ANY concerns, please contact me at school. Alan Hesketh - Swimming Organ-iser

Parents please note volunteers are needed Week 10.

4/5/6 News

Swim School begins this week. Please make sure you have all the required clothing including a rashy and $2 a day for those students who do not hold a season pass for the pool. Due to Swim School, the next couple of weeks will be a little different to the regular week. We will still have our Literacy and Numeracy lessons, but these will look slightly different as we need to fit them in around swimming lessons. Last week I was amazed to see the final product of all the hard work and effort students put into their News Report. Over the next couple of weeks, we will spend time editing the section filmed into a (hopefully) seamless News Report, which we can then send home on USBs for parents to view.
