Principal’s Report Another Busy Fortnight at BCS!
With just two weeks of Term 2 left, students are buzz-ing with holiday excitement but there are still lots of things happening at BCS this next fortnight. Classrooms are still a-buzz with learning with teachers ensuring no time is lost. Read on to find out more.
RAP Study Day
Approximately 100 students and teachers from the 7 RAP schools will be at BCS on Wednesday for our Term 2 combined study day. There will be some rooming changes for our Years 7-10 students throughout the day; students will be notified about these on Wednes-day morning. A huge thank you to the P&C for catering for this event!
RAP Parent Teacher Interviews
Year 11 and 12 parents are invited to attend interviews Tuesday 18th June – a note went home with the reports to book interviews. Please contact the school if you are unable to make any appointment times, or if you would like to change any appointments.
SRC Years 3-12 Disco
Students are busy preparing for the SRC Disco on Wednesday night! Come dressed as your favourite movie character for a fun night. Thanks to all the staff who are coming along to super-vise students from 7-10pm. Payment of $5.00 per student needs to be in to the school by tomorrow.
A payment slip is included in today’s Gazette
Competitions
The ICAS Competitions have been happening through-out the year but this week sees both the Writing and Primary Spelling competitions take place. These com-petitions are a great opportunity for students to prac-tise their skills and give them experience with external tests. Good luck to students involved.
HSC Study Days
The calendar for HSC students is really filling up as they head into their last term of school in Term 3. This week HSC Science students will attend a study day at Yanco Agricultural High School to learn from experts in writing and marking HSC examinations and next week, our Business Studies students will head across to Wagga for a study day at CSU to help prepare them for their HSC examinations.
Rock Camp
Mrs Lucas and her band of merry musicians have hit Rock Camp Headquarters this week! Good luck to her and the BCS crew attending – Bonny Ellison, Georgia Ellison, Paige Bischard, Jessie McDermott, Theresa Gor-ing and Emma Braddick. I know they will have a rocking week!
Precious Learning Time
With only two weeks left of term, teachers are ensuring all lesson time is maximised before heading to our next two week holiday. All students need to ensure they stay focused and keep on track with our school rules and expectations.
Holiday reading for primary students and regular con-solidation for our secondary students over the holiday break will ensure that they stay on track. Remember at BCS you can learn anywhere, anytime!
Staff Development Day Term 3
Every year, the RAP schools hold a combined Staff De-velopment Day (SDD). This year it will be held on the Term 3 SDD at Barellan Central School. We will host approximately 100 staff from K-12 across our partner schools for the day and will have professional develop-ment surrounding the new curriculum and Board of Studies. Once again, thank you to the BCS P&C for ca-tering for us on the day. Students will start back at school on Tuesday 16th July.
PSSA Athletics
Good luck to all our primary students attending the PSSA Carnival in Ariah Park this Friday.,
Have a great week.

Literacy and Numeracy Tips for Parents
Talking and listening tips for children Kindergarten to
Year 4:
Try to avoid interrupting children and listen to the whole of what they are trying to communicate.
Try providing opportunities to talk with and listen to children as they talk and share.
Give positive messages that show you are inter-ested by giving nods, smiles, sounds, words, ges-tures, but try not to intrude while your child is speaking.
If your child has trouble remembering what was spoken, a good technique is for him or her to re-peat in the mind what has been said, rephrasing it in his or her own words. If it is appropriate, taking notes is very helpful.
If you are planning something, such as a meal or an outing, try having a brainstorming session with your child. You can do this by asking for ideas for the occasion. You could just listen to one another share ideas or write them down.
Discuss common dates on the calendar such as public holidays and have your child mark in im-portant events on a family calendar.
Talk about days, months and years in relation to events such as birthdays and other special occa-sions.
Talk about street names and the meaning of signs as you drive around. You could retell or make up stories about the street names that tell how the name came about.
Enjoying numbers
Here are some tips for helping your child with numera-cy:
Have a number hunt as you drive. Each child looks for numbers on signs and houses and adds them as you travel. The older children add the numbers as they go and try to be the first to reach 100.
Try tipping up a container of toys onto the floor and ask how many there are of certain toys. For example, there might be 6 cars, 4 yellow blocks, 3 red blocks and 1 little bear.
On a calendar, write down the weather for each day. Then talk about how many days in each month are sunny, cloudy, wet, cold or hot. It’s fun to compare the months.
If you give your child the laundry peg bag, your child can put them all into separate colours. He or she can then count how many blue ones there are, how many yellow and so on.
You could try asking your child to stack pegs one on top of the other in their colours.
How many red ones could you build up until the pile falls over? How many orange ones?
Play games such as Dominoes, Snakes and Lad-ders, card games or board games involving dice. This will help your child to recognise patterns and to count. To help your child recognise numbers, change the dice to ones showing numbers.
Help your child to remember your phone number and to press the correct buttons on the phone.
