CEO Message

Dear residents, relatives and friends,

Why does time fly as we get older? Well, once again we have reached the end of another year. 2016 was an eventful and busy year, for our residents, our staff and our organisation. Residential aged care continues to be buffeted by the winds of change, with government regulations and directions being revised and remodelled continuously. The Aged Care Road Map will bring more changes in the coming years and every aged care facility in Australia will just have to come along for the ride! However, all’s well that ends well and therefore I sincerely hope that you end this year on a high note, celebrating with your loved ones and our dedicated team of staff and sharing the spirit of the season!

May 2017 bring you peace and tranquillity, contentment and many days of happiness.

Best Wishes, Angelika Koplin - CEO AUSTRALIAN AGED CARE GROUP PTY LTD

Dear Residents, Family and Friends

As Christmas is once again nearly upon us, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support.

2016 has been such a wonderful year at Kew Gardens and we hope the residents have enjoyed our services, as much as we have enjoyed providing them; may we add our residents are truly special people and having spent so much quality time with them has genuinely enriched our lives.

In regards to the Le salon and Hellesbeauty services availability over this period, we would like to advise that we shall be closed from Friday 23 December 2016 to Wednesday 11 January 2017.

Wishing you peace, joy, and all the best for the wonderful holiday season and all it has to offer. May this incredible time of giving and spending time with your family bring you joy that lasts throughout another new year.

Equity Trustees Jazz Afternoon at Kew Gardens

On Saturday, 15th October 2016 at Kew Gardens held between 2.00pm – 4.00pm, the Executive General Manager of Equity Trustees, Ian Westley, greeted guests to a special afternoon of jazz. Approximately 40 residents and their family members attended the event, which was performed in the courtyard adjacent to the Al Fresco Café to make the most of the good weather and beautiful sunshine.

The performance starred guest jazz singer Hetty Kate who was accompanied by a guitarist.

Residents enjoyed singing along to the playlist, as most of the songs were very familiar to them. Drinks and canapes were served to the guests throughout the performance.

At the end of the fabulous afternoon, Client Liaison/Admissions Manager, Chris Migliorini, thanked Equity Trustees for hosting the special event, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

High Tea at The Windsor Hotel Our Kew Gardens residents enjoyed a special bus tour to Melbourne’s timeless icon - The Windsor Hotel, in Melbourne CBD - known for having the best High Tea experience in Australia. This was a afternoon not to be missed, as the hallowed halls of The Windsor Hotel will be closing from February 2017 for approximately two years.

We were greeted by The Windsor's official Doorman wearing his top hat and tails. He even recognised some of our residents as old friends, as he had worked at Ryland’s Independent Living Apartments, so our residents especially enjoyed chatting and laughing with him.

For many of our residents, the outing to the Windsor held extra significance, as they had spent many happy times with loved ones over the years celebrating special events and enjoying life’s special moments. At least two of them had actually spent their wedding nights there and also the commencement of their honeymoons.

The High Tea was exquisite, with a three-tiered server displaying delicious and intricately decorated cakes, cucumber, salmon and egg sandwiches, as well as other savoury delights, sparkling wine, choices of exotic tea blends, coffee or English breakfast tea, followed by Devonshire tea & scones. The ambience of course was a timeless style and the service was simply excellent.

As we left our friend "the Doorman", he still happily chatted away with his old friends. Some of the residents took the opportunity to have a laugh, enjoying wearing his top hat for some of the wonderful photos shared here. It was a very special day.

Director of Care Message — Lisa Williams

It's that special time of year again to give thanks and appreciation for what has been another wonderful year here at Kew Gardens. I would like to extend my best wishes to you and your families for the festive season and the new year ahead. Many people are sentimental at Christmas time; for some it's about giving gifts, however, for our elderly loved ones we can do so much more. The elderly are most comfortable and pleased with sharing memories, sharing time together and being surrounded by family and friends. I am fortunate enough to witness many visitors at Kew Gardens spend time with their loved ones throughout the year and especially around Christmas time. Enhancing the quality of time that you share with your loved one is important, especially for those who may have a mother or father suffering dementia at Kew Gardens. However, we do understand that visits can be frustrating because of the one-sided nature of the conversation. I encourage you to perhaps have a book, photo album or other memory item on hand, so you can look through or view it together, as this can be an important source of joy and reflection for your loved one. The time reminiscing together - even for just one special moment - is invaluable. The closeness and true, quality time is a never-ending gift of contentment for those whom we love.

Have a safe and happy season end and I look forward to seeing you all in 2017!
