CHRISTMAS EVE FAMILY SERVICE REHEARSAL (12/18): All Sunday School children singing in the choir for the Christmas Eve Family Service are asked to attend rehearsal on Sunday, December 18 at 1:00 pm. A pizza lunch will be served at 12:30 pm. CHRISTMAS STOCKING FUND: The Christmas Stocking fund is set up to help the families of our congregation who are struggling to make ends meet throughout the year. To donate to this fund, you may place your offering in the plate as it passes by or drop it in the stocking at the back of the Sanctuary beginning in Advent. Please write “Christmas Stocking” in the memo. Thank you for blessing our families. CALENDAR FUNDRAISER: God’s Creation wall calendars will be for sale in the Fellowship Hall between Sunday services and at the Thanksgiving Eve pie social. Calendars cost $10 and all proceeds from this fundraiser go into the scholarship fund to help the preteen and youth be able to serve as missionaries next summer. Thank you for your support. WARM CLOTHING DRIVE: Please bring in your old coats & warm clothing for the Clothing Drive that will run through January 8. These gently worn items will be collected in the corral in the Narthex. WHAT IS ADVENT AND WHY IS EVERYTHING BLUE?: The season of Advent marks the beginning of the church year and comprises the four weeks before Christmas. For Christians, the season of Advent serves as a reminder both of the original waiting that was done by the Hebrews for the birth of their Messiah as well as the waiting of Christians for Christ's return. The Advent wreath was developed a few centuries ago in Germany as a sign of the waiting and hopeful return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The wreath, a circle, came to represent the eternal victory over death through Jesus Christ. The evergreens were a sign of the faithfulness of God to God’s people, even in death, and the lighted candles were a reminder of the light of Christ brought into the world. Blue is the liturgical color which represents hope for Jesus’ second coming.

CHRISTMAS SHEPHERDS IS KICKING OFF THIS WEEK! (Due 12/7): This year we are helping children at Sandy Elementary school and families in our congregation. Visit the bulletin board in the narthex area and take a tag or two to help a family in need. Gifts need to be returned to the church by Wednesday, December 7 (they will be distributed on Thursday, December 8). Do you know of a Good Shepherd family that needs help this Christmas season? Please call the office this week and we’ll do our best to include them in the Christmas Shepherd program.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CHANGE (12/25 & 1/1/17): There will be NO Sunday School on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.
