THE FRIDAY FLIER (Published fortnightly)
KOTAHITANGA

Kia ora koutou
Well we made it to the end of a very long (twelve weeker) term!
Everyone has been amazingly resilient, and we
have ended on a really high note with our Winter
Festival and Pyjama Day. It was wonderful to see all the student’s
performances during the Winter Assembly. It was lovely to see
everyone gathered together and so many parents. The ensemble
work throughout the school was very impressive and a great testa-
ment to the staff and students for the hours of work that goes into
building up the necessary individual and group skills. We were also
treated to a wonderful winter story given to us by Elizabeth along with
many poems and songs and karakia.
Thank you so much for providing food for the shared lunches, there
were certainly a lot of full tummies by the end of lunchtime.

It was great to
see so many
students in their

onesies.
We hope this joy-
ful spirit carries
on into the holi-
day period and
you manage to
have a well-
deserved break.
CLASSROOM CORNER
Class Five have been working extremely
hard since returning to school. They have
enjoyed learning about the ancient mytholo-
gies of Persia and Mesopotamia; the cradle
of civilisation and the invention of many
things we take for granted for example the
wheel, many credit this to these ancient
peoples’ use of the potter’s wheel.
The land that lies between the Euphrates and
the Tigris rivers was known as Babylon after
the Babylonians; in the Greek language, the
land of the two rivers was named Mesopota-
mia.
Class Five worked in groups to design an
ancient city of Mesopotamia. Their individual
‘village’ has an area for crops, animals and
flowers as well as part of the river. They cre-
ated their own clay buildings – some chose to
build a mighty ziggurat and others a dwelling
for the people to live in. When they combined
their ‘villages’ together it created a beautiful
city, with the river running all the way through
it.
I am immensely proud of how Class Five
worked together to create such detailed, cre-
ative villages; cooperation, communication,
tolerance and empathy were evident every
day during this project, ka pai Class Five!

COMMUNITY NOTICES
PRIVATE PIANO LESSONS AVAILABLE - 2020
I am excited to have returned to Waikato Waldorf as a Eurythmy Pianist (alongside the wonderful and talented Clive). I was previously the Eurythmy Pianist at the school for many years and also taught piano to many of the children. I have 19 years piano teaching experi-ence, have studied music to University level and have been an active member in the music community in Hamilton for many years. My experience ranges from theatre and film, through to bands and music groups. I have an organic approach and work with each child on an individual basis tailoring to their strengths, while nurturing a love and appreciation for music! I also aim to provide a fun and enjoyable environment to help encourage creative expression. I teach both Piano and Theory (I have numerous Theory Games which help make learning theory a more rewarding experience). I'm able to teach a wide range of musical styles; Classical, Jazz, Blues, Folk, Alt Country, Pop etc. My lessons are on an individual/ one to one basis; giving my students the benefit of lessons specifically tailored to their needs. If you are interested in lessons feel free to contact me.
