You can pay by direct deposit; check out our school’s website for the POP link. 2018 Student Representative Council Speeches and Elections We are well underway with the annual process of nominating and preparing students for their speeches for the Student Representative council for 2018. We have a large number of students who have been nominated this year; therefore we will conduct the speeches on a day separate to assembly. Speeches will be conducted on Friday 1 st December 2017 at 9.30a, followed by the voting process.

At Frederickton Public School our vision is: to equip students to be lifelong reflective learners,

enabling them to be responsible and respectful global citizens with adaptive and creative skills ready to face the challenges of a diverse and rapidly changing world.

PRINCIPALS NEWS It was great to have returned to work last week. My first priority was to visit classrooms to reconnect with the students and to observe how they are progressing with their learning. I was certainly very pleased by the number of students who spoke with me about their learning and in particular about their writing. The SRC will be running a school disco this week on Wednesday 22nd November. The canteen will be offering refreshments such as tea/coffee and cakes and there will also be a tasting plate of savoury and sweet finger foods available. Disco times are:

K-2 students from 6.00 – 7.00pm (pre-schoolers may also join but not babies for safety reasons)

Years 3-6 students from 7.00 – 8.00pm.

Please note that this is not a venue for high school students even though we are very fond of our former students. Entry is just $2 per student to be paid to the SRC at the hall door.

I will be doing a library stocktake during Week 9 so it is important that students start to look for and return their overdue library books in readiness for this.

NEWS FROM KO

Please ensure your child's swimming note and money is sent in this week as swim school starts next Monday, 27th November. Your child will need to have swimmers, rash shirt, thongs, a plastic bag and a towel each day. Please ensure their name is clearly marked on all their swimming and school uniform items. During this 2 week period your child will become very tired so please ensure they are to bed early each night.

This week we are reading I Wish I Had a Dinosaur by Ian Anggabrata & Mingga Anggawan and we will be writing persuasive texts about which animals we would like as a pet.

During mathematics we will be looking at fractions and mass, as well as exploring the different ways we can make and represent numbers.

In preparation for Swim School, during PDHPE we are learning about water and bus safety.

Hope to see you all at the Disco on Wednesday night.

1/2I Class News This week in Mathematics our class will be working on fractions as well as concepts about time. In literacy we are exploring a variety of different poetry and students will be making some of their own. We are also learning to recite poems. In the next few weeks students will be making their own musical instruments from recycled materials. If students could bring in any recyclable objects like empty cardboard boxes, milk cartons (and lids) etc it would be greatly appreciated. Students can bring them in over the next few weeks. Just a reminder that our library day will be on Wednesday this week. Keep up the great work around home reading. This Friday our class will be performing an item at the assembly. Mr Ingram

Minor Athletics Thank you A huge thank you to our SRC helpers, House Captains, Vice captains that helped at the athletics carnival and a special thanks to Jack McAlister. Your assistance was greatly appreciated. Also thank you to our parents who took the time to come and help on the day with timing and assisting teachers in the field events. It was great to see parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles as it gave the day a wonderful community vibe. Thank you to the children who had a great day competing and showing their sportsmanship. Well done everyone. Mr Cameron

K/1H Class News

Last week for the third week this term we have won the best class with the most house tickets in the weekly draw. Last Friday we celebrated with 15 minutes on the play equipment. A fun time was had by all.

We all enjoyed a great day of running, discus, shot put and long jump last Wednesday at the Minor Athletics Carnival. Thank you to all our parent helpers and spectators. Well done to all our competitors.

This week our reading text is The Big Fish. Another text by the author Pamela Allen. We will be reading and discussing the meaning of the text which is about team work and cooperation.

For the next two weeks we will be learning about Mass in Maths and measuring the weight of objects. We are estimating and measuring heavy and light objects and discussing hefting.

Please sign and return the swimming note as soon as possible. Only 1 more week and Intensive Swimming begins. Please ensure the students have a plastic bag, towel rash shirt, swimmers and a pair of thongs/crocs to travel to and from the pool. Students do not wear their swimmers in the morning to school. We change into our swimmers at school before we go to Gladstone pool.

The building of our boats in Science from recyclable material is going well and the students have enjoyed working with a partner to plan, design and create their boat. Next week we test the floatability of our boats and which materials support successful floating.

On Friday and next Monday I will be away and the class will have Mr Hoelzl. Normal routines will continue.

We all wish Zahlie well with her knee operation and look forward to seeing her return as soon as possible.

During the last two weeks of the term I like to have the pupils enjoy some Christmas craft and cooking. It would be greatly appreciated if students could contribute $2 to the cost of the materials and equipment. Send in when you can.

Thank you to the families that have sent in boxes of tissues. This is greatly appreciated.

Mrs Rose

News from 4/5S

In week 7, 4/5S will be reading a new book called The Wishing Cupboard. It is set in Vietnam and continuing on with our theme on Asia this term. The book will be linked with an art lesson about creating realistic art pieces. Within writing, we will be learning how to write a procedure.

In mathematics, we will be looking at fractions and decimals and how to round a decimal to the nearest tenth.

It is good to see so many of my students looking forward to the 20 minutes of reading after lunch every day. For many of them, they have improved thanks to this quiet time set aside for them to get lost in a book. I still encourage families to read with their child every night so they are practising this important skill regularly. If they bring in their home reader signed by their parent or carer, they will receive two Class Dojos.

Miss Sant.

NEWS FROM 5/6R We are quickly approaching the end of year with so many exciting things happening over the coming weeks. Swim school begins next week for those students who will be attending. This will go for two weeks. For those Year 5 students who are going for the SRC in 2018, speeches will be Friday 1st December. I encourage parents to help students practice their speech at home so that they are confident in presenting it to an audience. The final Kempsey High School and Melville High School transition days will be on Tuesday 5th December. Students will make their own way to the high schools in the morning and their own way home in the afternoon. The Year 6 farewell will be during the evening of Thursday 7th December and the Year 6 pool party will be on Wednesday 13th December. There are still some year 6 students who have not yet given their photos to Mrs Fitzgerald in the office for the slide show. Please send these in as soon as possible. This week in Maths we are focusing on Mass and Position. In English, we are starting a unit on Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes set in the Japanese city of Hiroshima. This text is based on the life of a girl who fell ill with leukemia caused by radiation from the atomic bombing of Hirsohima. Mrs Rudder

OOSH News At the moment we are closed on a Monday afternoon, however if you require care for your child/ren we are currently collecting expressions of interest. The form is attached to this newsletter. If enough families are committed to needing Monday afternoons we can open in the future. The holidays are approaching fast so our vacation program will be available and bookings open on 4th December. For any further information please contact Kate on 0447626387.

NEWS FROM 4/5A

Congratulations and thank you to all students who have been regularly completing their homework. It makes me really proud to see such a high level of commitment by these students. It is such a shame that there are less than six students who do their small amount of homework every week.

This week we are working on public speaking. It is a form of writing, as it involves a good deal of planning, editing and revising before a student has a prepared speech ready to go. There then are the speaking attributes to consider; a good clear voice, eye contact, knowing what they are saying, tone and speed.

Best wishes to all students who are participating in the 2018 SRC elections. Posters will be up around the school this week before voting and speeches begin. I wish you all well.

Don't forget school swimming starts next week. Please be organised, and come prepared with everything you need for swimming each day. It is just as important that you make sure you collect everything after each swimming lesson. We always find socks, undies or towels and no one ever seems to own them!

School Disco The canteen will be offering refreshments such as tea/coffee and cakes $2.50 and there will also be a tasting plate of savoury and sweet finger foods available @ $4.50. The school asks that parents to donate cakes, slices etc for sale at the disco. Items can be left at the office on Wednesday or taken to the canteen during the day. Thank you for your generosity. P & C Committee

During the past 2 years we have been working on developing a Growth Mindset and lifelong reflective learners. We are planning to incorporate learning dispositions into the work that we are doing over the next few years. Please circle the top 3 dispositions that you think are most important.

We would like to provide opportunity for you to give us some feedback. We sometimes use the following method in some of our classrooms. It’s known as 2 Stars and a Wish. Please note down 2 things that you see as positives about Frederickton PS and write one wish about how we could make something better.

We are considering moving assembly to an afternoon slot in order to run our literacy programs every morning without interruption. It is important to us that parents have the opportunity to attend our assemblies which is why we are seeking your opinion. I am in favour of moving assembly to an afternoon yes/no My preferred afternoon is:____________________ Thank you your feedback is appreciated!
