Saint Agnes Parish, Arlington, Massachusetts - The Fourth Sunday of Advent - December 17-18, 2016

During Advent, as we prepare our hearts for the coming of the Lord at Christmas,

each week we add decorations to the Church symbolizing this

preparation. We began our preparation with

the blessing of the Advent Wreath.

We hung wreaths on the doors of the Church. We added wreaths in the Sanctuary. This week we add unlit

Christmas trees in the Upper Church.

Christmas Flower Envelopes are available at the door of the Church if you would

like to contribute to the Christmas decorations. O Come, O Come, Emmanuel!

Feast of the Immaculate Conception Mass was hosted by: Grade 4. Our Chaplain, Father Graham, spoke to the students about the need to say “yes” to God. This includes our obligation to go to weekly Mass to thank God

for His blessings. This Mass was the first time the K 1 (Pre-K) students joined the student body at Mass. They were escorted to Mass by their 5th grade buddies who did a fantastic job as mentors. Special thanks to fourth grade teachers Ms. Driscoll and Ms. Kilpatrick.

100 Gingerbread Houses were constructed by Saint Agnes School students, Student Council members along with parents and faculty. The highlight was a special visit from Santa Claus who patiently and diligently listened to all the children's wish lists. Thank you to event organizer Janet Wronski, and alumni Bob Wronski, and Bobby Wronski who help coordinated and prepare the hall for this fantastic event.

It is not too early to start thinking of the 2017-2018 School year. Some grades are already at capacity. Avoid the rush, make an appointment to tour the school.

“Instead of being just a church that welcomes and receives by keeping the doors open, let us try also to be a church that finds new roads…to those who have quit or are indifferent.”– Pope Francis

The Boston Sock Exchange Ministry serves our homeless brothers and sisters on Boston Common each month. Please remember the homeless who would very much benefit from the seasonal clothing you no

longer require. Please bring men’s and women’s seasonally-appropriate clothing donations to the bin at the back of the church or to the Parish Center. We are especially in need of men’s new socks, men’s winter gloves (L/XL), men’s hooded sweatshirts (L-4XL), rain ponchos, winter outerwear, juice boxes, Gatorade, or any other individual-sized non-carbonated drinks. At this time we do have enough water. In addition, we could use travel-sized personal care products in bulk to make packages for monthly distribution. Join us in the Parish Center on Friday, January 13, at 7:00 PM to prepare sandwiches and to help organize donations. We are in need of volunteers to help with distribution on Saturday, January 14, at 11:00 AM on Boston Common. Please note that anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. For information please contact Sheila O’Brien: [email protected] .

Arlington Catholic High School is pleased to announce its new Alumni Association. The mission of this Association is to

reconnect AC alum with AC and its current students via social events and workshops. We are looking for 3-5 people per class to become Class Agents to help facilitate this new association. Alumni truly define AC and serves as its strongest legacy. If you are interested in getting involved with the AC Alum Association please let us know and we will add your name to the list of Class Agents. Or, if you can recommend any other individuals from your class that may want to volunteer please contact us. Want to learn more? Our first official meeting will be in January 31 2017 7:00 PM in the AC Library. Contact Diana Papagni Kresien '84 at [email protected] or Erin Kilgarriff Simmons’88 at [email protected] for more information.

We hear that Jesus will be named Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” The mystery of the birth of Jesus is supremely a mystery of love. May each Christmas find us more and more like him: more humble, more holy, more happy and more full of God. In the month of

December, through your gifts, we were able to help the poor and suffering face their hardships and fears. We helped by providing food and assisting with utility and rent bills.

2017 March for Life

The annual March for Life will be held in Washington D.C. on Friday, January 27, 2017. If you’ve never participated, you are missing out on an unforgettable experience!

The Arlington area bus is leaving from the Saint Camillus parking lot on January 26 and will return on January 28. There are just a few bus seats and hotel rooms remaining. Call Joe Kolb (781-844-0353), trip coordinator, for more information.
