Citrus fruits are highly acidic. In a lab blue litmus paper is used to
test for the presence of acid. When an acid is present, the litmus
paper becomes red.
Experiment #:Date:
Title: Some Experiments with Lime Juice
Aim: To observe the reaction of lime juice with different materials
Apparatus/ Materials: Read through the method below and List the
materials and apparatus.
Method: ( Pay careful attention to any colour changes or reactions. Write
every thing you see happening. Remember to follow the rules for the writing
of the method )1. Add one drop of lime juice on indicator paper. Make observations
2. a) Add two drops of lime juice on a bicarbonate of soda ( a small
amount)
b) Repeat above but this time replace the bicarbonate of soda with
salt
c) Now add two drops of lime juice on a small amount of washing soda.
3. Touch a small piece of dry indicator paper on a fresh portion of dry
bicarbonate of soda
4. Using wet indicator paper touch the following (SEPARATELY)
a) bicarbonate soda
b) the salt
c) the washing soda
Results:
Tabulate the results as shown below. Give the table a title
Experiment Observations ( What I saw)
Lime Juice on
Indicator Paper
Discussion:
1. Is the lime juice acidic? How id you know this?
2. What things made the lime juice fizz ( bubble)?
3. What things made the indicator change colour?
4. Were there any relationships shown?
Conclusion: Write a short sentence to express what you have learnt from
your observations.
