The View from the Clubhouse I hope this newsletter finds everyone safe and healthy. It has been an interesting 4 months to say the least. I am happy to report that the overall state of the club is excellent. We have managed to add members during the COVID pandemic which is not unusual as golf courses and private country clubs in this area have seen increased activity. We have seen our dining business in the evenings struggle but again that is the norm right now. People are not comfortable going out to eat in the evening just yet. It remains to be seen when and if that ever changes. As so many businesses struggle and are forced to declare bankruptcy we are very fortunate to remain financially viable.
Congratulations to our GCC Golf Club Champions. David Barnhart—Men’s Club Champ, Jennifer Arranda—Women’s Club Champ. Also congrats to Men’s Net Champion Mikey McPhail and Women’s Net Champion Marcie Schmidt.
GCC lost a long time member, friend and WGA leader in late June. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of Suzan Aronson. Suzan will be terribly missed but her memory will live on at GCC.
The August calendar of events is final. A few highlights to look forward to: Guys & Dolls, 3-Person Open, August Birthdays, Water Volley Ball Tournament, Harry Potter Movie Night at the Swimming Pool and Pool and Clubhouse BINGO!. We ask that you please call to make reservations for any of our dining events. Reservations help us prepare the correct amount of food and staff accordingly. Reservations are not required but appreciated. Also, remember that there is a suggestion box in the member information area near the Oak Room and also in the Golf Shop. Your comments and suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.
Excited to welcome our newest Board Members: John Glenn, Alinda “Ali” Taylor and Matt Morrow. Our hats are off to Brian Moroney. Brian finished in a tie with Ali for the 3rd position on the board and he gladly gave the position to Ali. A generous and classy gesture by Brian. I would encourage everyone to get involved. The Committee meetings are held the first week of every month and the days and times are on the event calendar. You are invited and encouraged to attend. And then each year in June we elect 3 new members to the board. Start to blaze your path to election time now! We are all in this together!.
We received the green light to begin construction of the new Full Swing Golf Practice Facility. I am hopeful that we will begin construction in the month of August. It should be completed around the first of September. As you may have noticed we completed the installation of the lights at the practice putting and chipping greens and the parking lot. Look for some awesome night putting events once the time changes in late October.
Brian McMinn and I have been working with the city of Georgetown to renew our water rights. We feel very confident that we will be able to negotiate a new agreement without raising our cost which is noteworthy. Many golf courses struggle with water rights and so to know that we will not have an issue is comforting.
We received the first draft of a formal easement agreement with our neighbors at Hillwood Development. As some of you might be aware Hillwood/Wolf Ranch is in need of access to wastewater and an easement that runs through our property from behind the maintenance barn down the hill and directly across the front entrance. The agreement is to our liking and we are working on final details to have that wrapped up sometime in August. Thank you to Hillwood and Wolf Ranch for being great neighbors! We look forward to a positive relationship for years to come.
You should start to see movement at the top of our property near the maintenance barn very quickly on construction of the Full Swing Practice Facility. And also you will see major improvements being made to the roadway leading up from the “Employee Parking Lot” to the maintenance barn. The improvement of that roadway and the construction of the practice facility go hand in hand. Please be patient with us. Be patient with both the timing of construction and the mess that might occur.
I will have the drawings for the Full Swing Practice Facility available in the Founder’s Lounge. Please remember that my door is always open. Call or text me at 512-771-0155 and I will be more than happy to meet with you.
Let me finish by saying how excited I am about the incredibly positive buzz we have going around the club. The pool is hopping, golf course is in great shape, lounge and dining areas are open and slowly seeing increased activity and most importantly we are seeing more and more requests for membership information. I want to thank our Summer Members and let you know to look for some special offers and increased activities that will make it hard for you to walk away in late September. You will want to join the club full time! Thank you and Stay Safe!

Georgetown Country Club August, 2020
the Forecast
THE PRO’S CORNER We are over halfway through an absolute crazy year! I hope everyone is staying healthy and
practicing proper CDC guidelines as we navigate forward.
This month is the new date for the 3-Person Open. Currently have a full field of 180 players! If you
happen to have any new players on your team or any changes, please let us know in the Golf Shop so
we can make the proper adjustments. As you can image prepping this event is a long process so the
more prepared, we can be the better event that the staff can provide the players.
We have been doing more rounds than I have seen in my 2 years here. Been fun watching this place
continue to grow and get better. Course have been in great shape, especially for our major events
such as the Club Championship we had last month.
One important topic to keep in mind is the handing in of scorecards for GHIN Handicap scores. Its
very important that you have these things taken care of before dropping a card:
Last name and member number
Scores that can be easily read
What tees are being played for the round
It will help the Golf Shop staff a bunch if these items are taken care of. We want to make sure each player has the proper scores entered each time.
We will continue to have the Tuesday and Thursday evening events in August. Signs up will be on the boards outside my office. I encourage you to
partake in the events and try them out if you have not yet. Tuesdays will be the Par 3 contest and Horse Race. Every Thursday will continue to be the
Moonlighters.
Keep it the short stuff……

COURSE “CLIPPINGS”
August, the heat is on. Temperatures in the upper 90’s and in to the 100’s, wind, and low humidity is giving our I
rrigation system a work out. We are watering the course as much as possible with the greens and tees being a priority.
As you have seen we are hand watering the dry areas on the greens. By hand water we are able to apply water directly
to the areas that need it the most. When we are watering our fairways it takes 10 hours to complete that cycle, when we
add in greens or tees it stretches into 11 to 12 hours. We will let the Golf Shop know when we are turning on fairways
and if the cycle is starting on the front nine or back nine. Our water budget for this time of year is covering our needs, I
have not had to use river water yet, this is due to closely monitoring the moisture needs of the greens. This is done by
visual inspection, electronic moisture meter readings and spot watering. I have also used a lot of wetting agents to help
the greens retain moisture. During this time of year when driving your cart please use the cart path until you reach where
your ball landed. The areas in front of the tees are wearing down and with high temperatures the grass does not recover
as fast.
We have completed the tee renovation to 9’s white and blue and will be ready or Gus and Dolls. We are slowly
expanding the greens back to where the original edge used to be. You will see scalped areas along the edge. We am
doing this in increments so that there is not a large scalped area, it does not take long for the grass to recover and we
should soon have our greens close to the original size.
Brian McMinn, GCSAA Golf Course Superintendent
THANK YOU GCC GOLFING MEMBERS
Dear Members and Guests, please remember to REPAIR YOUR BALL MARKS and FILL YOUR DIVOTS WITH SAND. Thank you! Please remember that when you come to a stop around tee boxes and greens make sure that ALL 4 WHEELS ARE ON THE CON-CRETE CART PATH. Let’s keep our golf course looking beautiful. Please observe the 90 DEGREE RULE. Which means stay on the golf cart path as long as possible and then when you are even in distance with your drive then drive straight across to your ball. As temperatures rise and rain becomes scarce our fairways be-come more susceptible to damage to them due to golf cart traffic. Please be aware.
Thank you!
