Is it too late to submit my application to “Bot Camp”? o While we cannot guarantee acceptance, we do have a three open spots. Please contact Dr. Vincent Scovetta ([email protected]) for additional information and any special considerations. o Final application date Wednesday, May 29. Q. Who should apply for admittance to the Campbellsville University’s “Bot Camp” Event? o We are asking current high school juniors that have achieved high marks and interested in the study of Robotics or Computer Science to consider applying for this event. o Because of space limitations, we are limiting the number of admitted applicants to 30. Q. Are applicant’s limited to Taylor County High Schools? o No, we hope all appropriate high school juniors will apply. Q. When will I be notified if I was accepted to be a participant in the Event? o Applications will close on May 5, 2019 with notifications occurring shortly thereafter. o Notifications were sent out May 8, 2019. Q. Are special permissions required? o Yes, accepted student will need to bring a completed, signed, and authorized “BOT CAMP 2019 Participation, Medical, & Photo Release Form”. The form will be posted on our website (campbellsville.edu/botcamp) which must be competed and submitted upon arrive on Sunday (6/2). The completed form is required of each accepted applicant. o A number of parents / students have asked if Campbellsville University could help with notarizing the “Bot Camp” required release form. Please ask your parent / guardian to help you with the completion of the form found on www.campbellsville.edu/botcamp. Dr. Bruce Singleton (Singleton Law), or a member of his law firm, will be here on Sunday (6/2) at sign-in time (between 3:30 and 4:00 PM) to notarize. Be sure your package contains a medical authorization that must be notarized. What are the Campbellsville University Swimming Pool Guidelines? o *OBEY THE LIFEGUARDS AT ALL TIMES* o Everyone must shower off thoroughly before getting in the pool o NO one is permitted on the deck or in the pool without a lifeguard on duty o NO running on the deck of the pool, or on the stairs o NO inappropriate physical contact while in the pool area o NO horseplay in the pool or on the pool deck o NO diving in the shallow end of the pool o NO food, gum, or candy in the pool area (only water is permitted in

    non-glass containers) o Flotation devices are permitted Only in the shallow end of the pool o NO flips into the pool from the pool deck or diving blocks o NO cotton clothing in pool; NO t-shirts* o *Detergent residue from cotton clothing clouds and contaminates the water o The pool at Campbellsville University is not grounded, therefore, in the case of a

    thunderstorm/lightning everyone must be out of the water. No one is allowed back into the pool until 30 minutes after the last sight or sound of the storm. A lifeguard will give the ALL CLEAR when it is safe to enter the pool.

    o Swimsuits only are preferred for pool activity, however, performance blend shirts/rash guards are allowed.

    • Q. Campbellsville Campus Security? o As usual, Campbellsville Campus Security will be on campus during the Event.

    • Q. How long is the Event? o Our “Bot Camp” begins on Sunday, June 2 with arrival time / check-in between

    3:30 and 4:30 PM EST. o Our “Bot Camp” ends on Friday, June 7, with departure time / check-out between

    5:30 and 6:30 PM EST. • Q. Will boarding and meals be provided?

    o Students will be given the opportunity to board on campus in our university dorm rooms.

    o With the exception of Sunday, June 2, and Friday, June 7, breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

    • Q. Do I need to board at Campbellsville University? o Boarding at our university is not required. We cannot, however, discount the

    • Q. When & where should students / parents arrive? o Students and parents/guardians should arrive at Campbellsville Village Dorm

    (“#34. Women’s Villages”) between 3:30 and 4:30 PM EST. on Sunday, June 2. o A campus map of parking and Village dorm and registration area has been

    • Q. What plans for Sunday (June 2)? o Students and parents/guardians should plan to arrive for check-in at

    Campbellsville Village Dorm (“#34. Women’s Villages”) between 3:30 and 4:30 PM EST.

    o Students / faculty will board the Campbellsville University vans for return to Campbellsville University.

    § Students, parents / guardians, and the Campbellsville Community are invited to the Keynote event.

    § (6:00 – 7:00 PM EST.). Keynote speakers (Mr. Shewmaker - Toyoda Gosei Kentucky & Mr. Wellmann – Teleperformance) will discuss the importance of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine learning to an advancing 21th century economy.

    § (7:00 – 9:00 EST.) tour of the Campbellsville University Campus. Dr Garrison, Mr. Watkins, and Mrs. Duncan will provide details separately.

    § (9:00 EST.) Parents / guardians, and the Campbellsville Community should leave for home.

    § Return to assigned dorm room (“lights out”). • Q. What are the current plans for Thursday (June 6)?

    them to Carter Hall classroom 406 (9:00 – 12:00 AM. EST.). Students should then proceed to Powell Gymnasium for preliminary trials and student testing.

    o Students should proceed to the Winters Dining Hall where lunch will be provided (12:00 – 1:00 PM EST.)

    o Students should proceed to the Powell Gymnasium (1:00 – 3:00 PM EST.) for continued student testing.

    o Students, parents / guardians, and the Campbellsville Community are invited to observe the competition (2:30 – 3:00 PM EST.).

    o Students competition and award ceremony (3:00 – 5:30 PM EST.). o (5:30 – 6:30 PM EST.) student pickup belongings from Carter Hall classroom

    • Q. Will parents and our local community be permitted attend the Keynote Speaker Night?

    o Yes • Q. Will parents and our local community be permitted attend the Final Time-Trial

    Competition? o Yes

    • Q. Will representatives from the student’s high school be permitted to attend the Welcome, Keynote, and Final Competition?

    o Yes. We encourage the establishment of an ongoing working relationship between Campbellsville University and high schools for improving student knowledge.

    • Q. Have the student evening activities been finalized? o We are currently working on finalizing the evening activities. Generally, we

    expect to include the following: § Sunday Night - Outdoor Team Building Games § Monday Night - Swimming in University Pool (certified lifeguards are

    provided by Campbellsville University) § Tuesday Night – Movie Night § Wednesday Night - Keynote Speaker Night § Thursday Night - Game Night in Powell Athletic Center Gym § Friday – Competition

    • Q. Where will the corporate tours take the students? o Tours of corporations that utilize factors of Computer Science and Robotics will

    be provided on Wednesday (6/5). § TG Kentucky Robotics facilities and lunch (9:00 – 12:30 PM EST.). § Murakami Manufacturing USA, Inc. (1:30 – 4:30 PM EST.).

    • Q. Will Campbellsville University provides transportation to/from corporate tours? o Yes

    • Q. Have the specific times for the daily activities been worked out? o We anticipate the day’s activities will begin at 8 am and ends when the evening

    activity concludes (~9 pm). • Q. What are the costs for attending the event?

    o Each accepted applicant to the “Bot Camp” Event will be required to pay a $100 acceptance fee. Electronic payments may be posted on the Campbellsville.edu/botcamp website.

    o No additional fee are necessary. • Q. What robot kits will be used during event?

    o We are currently evaluating a number of autonomous vehicles and have not decided on any one in particular.

    • Q. Will teams be formed or will individual competitions take place? o Team of 2/3 students will be formed for the building, programming, testing, and

    final competition. One kit per team will be provided. • Q. Are programming skills required?

    o No, students will be instructed in the downloading, editing, importing, and saving of the instruction code necessary to control the robot.

    • Q. What awards will be given to the winning team? o Each member of the winning team (time-trial event) will receive a $100 gift

    certificate. • Q. Will the event be streamed live?

    o No, unfortunately, the Powell Gymnasium Control Center is presently being updated.

    • Q. Will the results of the competition be advertised? o We expect the results of the competition to be advertised in local newspapers and

    radio stations. • Q. Will the media be on campus to records / photograph during Bot Camp week?

    o Yes • How will the students’ knowledge be evaluated?

    o In order to provide parents/guardians and Campbellsville University with mechanisms for improving our “Bot Camp” event for 2020, we expect each student to answer a set of “Computer Science & Robotics” survey questions. Neither student personal identifiable information nor results will be maintained or kept beyond September 1, 2019. It will therefore be left up to the discretion of each student to provide such results to their respective parents/guardians/school. Because no identifiable information will be retained, it will not be possible for anyone associated with “Bot Camp 2019” to provide specific student identifiable results.

    § Monday (6/3) morning students will be asked to complete a “Computer Science & Robotics” survey.
