BHOPL: The City Of Lakes
Bhopal is located in the central part of India and north western part of the state of Madhya Pradesh. The
Legendary King Bhoj built the town in 11th century AD. It is the capital of Madhya Pradesh.
BHEL :
It was established in the late fifties. It is the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprises of its kind
in India and is one of India’s leading companies in the power equipments field. The plant is well
established. Townships spread over an area of around 20 square KM having Population of more than one
lakh and serve as the centre of education (1University, 4Degree Colleges, and Dozens of School). It also
provides good health facilities sports and recreational parks (17nos) and eco- friendly environment (more
than 8 lakh trees) and follows Environment Management System.
KATURBA HOSPITAL:
It is situated in one of the BHEL Township named as Habibganj. It is a Hi-Tech well equipped modern
300 bedded hospital. It is one of the premier & most modern hospitals in Madhya Pradesh.
Its intensive Care Unit is a Multi Specialty ICU well equipped with Hi-Tech Equipment like bed side
continuous monitoring modern gadgets including colour Doppler, Ventilators Defibrillators,
infusion Pumps, Computerized digital X-ray Unit, PFT Bronchoscope.

There are four peripheral dispensaries in various sectors of Township to provide primary health care
of more than one lakh regular beneficiaries. Kasturba Hospital is also having a modern centre for
Occupational Health Services (OHS) which is unique in the state of Madhya Pradesh and functions as per
directives and guidelines given by ILO& WHO.
Apart from the above, the hospital is continuously updating its academic needs and generates academic
environment mainly in following fields:

6. BHEL SHIKSHA MANDAL:
BHEL is taking care of its employees and their families by providing appropriate high quality
health care facilities and best education for their children and also children of neighborhoods.
For education of the children of its employees in particular and residents of Bhopal at large,
BHEL Bhopal has established good number of schools. The entire infrastructure is provided by
the BHEL Management.
For effective control of these institution including staff and students, the organization decided
and formulated to establish educational society. Presently the society is functioning under BHEL,
Bhopal named as “BHEL SHIKSHA MANDAL “It is registered under Madhya Pradesh Firms
and Society Act. 1959 vide Registration No. 12903dated 16-06-1983. This Society is an
autonomous body and ... Working with the following objectives:
(I) To establish and promote intellectual, physical, academic, moral, professional/
vocational education in the field of nursing and other allied paramedical disciplines.
(II) To spread the knowledge on the subjects related to the all round development of the
personality.
(III) To promote the general welfare of the community at large through service and
activities.
(IV) To promote the culture heritage by the advancement of Indian philosophy, fine arts,
literature and crafts.
(V) To develop social awareness aiming at the national integration.
(VI) To cooperate with the National movements aiming at the removal of illiteracy of
ignorance and to promote the civic, economic and cultural interest in all people.

(VII) To bring together the parents of the students, teachers and other educational
institutions with a view to devise ways and means of providing a congenial
atmosphere for the best growth of the children.
(VIII) To arrange and formulate training programme and symposiums for improving
teaching methods and widening the mental horizons of the teachers
(IX) To reconstruct , takeover and amalgamate with one or more associations/ societies
having similar/ identical objectives with intimation to Register of Firms and Societies,
Govt.of M.P. Bhopal.
To achieve the first objective, BHEL Shiksha Mandal has established a College of
Nursing in 2002 which is affiliated to Barkatullah University Bhopal. For providing
technical assistance, practical work, hospital services, BHEL Management has
permitted to use 300 bedded Kasturba Hospital.
7. KASTURBA COLLEGE OF NURSING:
The Kasturba College of Nursing is an extension of educational programme managed by
“ BHEL SHIKSHA MANDAL” which is patronized by BHEL Bhopal. One of the objectives
of BHEL Shiksha Mandal is to establish and promote Vocational education in the field of
Nursing and other allied paramedical disciplines .To meet this objectives the Kasturba
College of Nursing has been established in the year 2002.The College is affiliated to
Barkatullah University Bhopal since 2002.MPMSU Jabalpur since 2015, is recognized by
Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and M.P.Nurses' State Nursing Council. The College is
offering 4 years B.Sc.degree in Nursing .

effectively and efficiently contribute to the health sector.

professionals possessing all round skills as health-care providers, educationalists

PHILOSOPHY OF KASTURBA COLLEGE OF NURSING
The institution believes that the unique function of a nurse is to assist the individual,
either sick or well, in the performance of those activities contributing to health, its
recovery or to a peaceful death, that she would perform unaided if she had necessary
strength, will and knowledge.
The basic course in Nursing should provide for the continuous development of an
individual as a nurse and as a citizen, capable of functioning effectively in the hospital
and Community. The institution believes that educational preparation of nurses
contributes substantially in maintaining the health of the people by prevention of
disease, promotion of health and care of the sick and injured in the family, community
and globe.

It is recognized that this is a profession which is influenced by advances in science and
technology and therefore efforts are being made to give more exposure in the clinical
field areas.
The endeavor of the institution would be directed towards helping the students in their
all round development and to develop pride in the profession and to guide them with
respect to their prospects in Nursing.
AIMS OF THE COURSE:
The aim of the B.Sc. Nursing Programme is to prepare the graduates to assume
responsibility in care of people, sick or well as professional nurses.
To maintain a centre of excellence in nursing with a view to generate new perspective
and innovative approaches in scientific health care system and future needs of nursing
development.
To set an ideal in study as well as service to society which may become holistic in its
outlook and approach to meet the health needs of the country.
OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE:
(A) INSTITUTIONAL
(i) To select intelligent sincere students who have aptitude in taking care of
sick and to promote the health of Community.
(ii) To prepare quality Nurses who do the sustained work of creative nature for
the development of Human and Scientific health Care.
(iii) To promote “in depth” Study of Nursing with a view to prepare Nurses to
cope up with the modernized, intricate and advanced medical care of
today’s world.
(iv) To prepare Nurses to think and act independently and to own
responsibility to assist people, whether sick or healthy in measures which
contribute to holistic health.
(v) To generate academic, learning climate as residual among the existing
medical and Nursing Staff for updating their knowledge and innovative
approaches.
(B) STUDENTS
(i) Assessing health status, identify nursing needs, planning implementing,
pursuing care for patients that contribute to health of individual, families
and communities. Demonstrating competency in the skills and techniques
of Nursing.
(ii) Participating as member of health team.
(iii) Demonstrating leadership quality and decision making abilities in different
situations.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Since it is a profession of dedication, love for humanity, faith and courage, the students who
aspire for this profession, should have sound physical health, courage, honesty, emotional
maturity and above all compassion to serve, as pre requisites for admission to the college.
COLLEGE FACILITIES:
(i) Teaching Facility:
The College is committed to provide best-in-class teaching and learning environment
to instill ethical and professional values to the future nurses for building leadership
skills in areas of nursing education, practice, administration and research. KCON has
a well qualified team of nursing faculty and an expert team of external faculty
engaged from parental Hospital and various other Institutions / Colleges from Bhopal
for teaching various specialty subjects.
(ii) Classrooms:
Each Lecture Hall is well organized with comfortable sitting arrangements and has
got proper lighting & ventilation, making a perfect environment for studies. Each
classroom has got OHP & LCD which is utilized for presentations & seminars.
(iii) Laboratories :
Strictly adhering to the norms of Indian Nursing Council also in order to provide practical
training to students in the best possible way, our College is well equipped with state of the
art infrastructure/ with all upgraded equipments including mannequins,charts, models, AV
aids and necessary articles for procedure demonstration.

(iv) Library :
Kasturba College of Nursing has a well furnished library with around 3200 books,
National & International journals, Magazines & reference books to serve the needs of the
students and staff of the College . For the convenience of staff and students,Library has
separate Reference rooms with computers and other comfortable arrangements needed for
library.
(v) Computer Education:
As the college is committed for all round development of the students, computer education is
endowed to the students. For providing latest knowledge in nursing, the institute has got
computers with internet facility.

(vi) Audio-Visual Room :
To impart quality education, it is important that educational material should be designed to
focus attention to provide up to date knowledge. In order to make education effective,
College has well furnished A.V. Aids Room with OHP’s , LCD’s, T.V, VCR, Camera, Public
Address Systems, Charts, Posters etc.
(vii).Multi Purpose Hall: College has well spacious multipurpose hall which facilitates the
college for hosting functions of the college ,educational conferences, workshops, examinations
cultural activities etc.
(viii) Medical Facilities :
College is responsible for the health appraisal of the students. Free OPD treatment is
provided to all students in Kasturba Hospital, BHEL Bhopal. Apart from this, a thorough
and unhastened health examination is carried for each student.
(ix) Clinical Programme :
And for super speciality, College is affiliated to Bhopal Memorial Hospital,
J.P. Hospital Bhopal, Jawaharlal Cancer Hospital Bhopal. For community postings students
are exposed to both rural and urban areas in Gandhi Nagar, Bagsewania and BHEL
adopted villages like Adampur, and Chotikhajuri.
(x) Community outreach programme :
Community outreach programme of the college shall be extended to (i) Padaria (ii)
Kanha Saya (iii) Adampur (iv)Koluwa (v) Choti Khajuri (vi) Piplia Pende Khan
villages of Bhopal District. These are adopted villages of BHEL for fulfillment of social
obligations apart from imparting education BHEL is equally concerned for their health
and well being. For this, a medical team of Kasturba Hospital including Doctors, Para
Medical Staff along with trainees and students regularly visit the above villages in
intervals to cater to the health needs of the residents of these villages. The team is also
imparting health and environment education to the village so as to enable them to solve
their health problems by their own efforts. The ultimate goal of this programme is
“HEALTH FOR ALL AND ALL FOR HEALTH”.
Apart from the above, the team also visits nearby slum colonies to cater to the needs of
investigation, diagnosis and treatment.
Kasturba Hospital also extends medical facility free of cost through health camps and
deputes Doctors and Nurses at the place of calamity whether it is at the bank of river
Narmada (District Hoshangabad) or cyclone affected areas of Orissa, Nursing Staff
participates in all National health programmes .Students will also undergo rural health
experience by visiting Seva Kendras under Community Health Department of the College of
Nursing.

(x) Extra Curricular Activities :
As we believe in all round personality development, therefore along with excellence in
education , College is also organizing other programmes. College has SNA Unit and the
students participate in competitions held at National, State level and Intercollegiate level
and are bringing laurels to the college. College is also organizing time to time Seminar,
Scientific Paper Presentation, Workshops, continuing Nursing Education and Staff
Development programmes.
(xi) Transportation :
College is providing transportation facilities for the students between college and hostel
and also for clinical practice
HOSTEL FACILITIES
(i) Rooms: Well ventilated and furnished rooms with attached toilet cum bathroom are
provided to the students.
(ii) Mess : Hostel is having a furnished dining room. Under the supervision of Warden,
the food is prepared hygienically and served to the students.
(iii) Reading Room : Reference books are available for easy access and to study in the
hostel. Hostel has got computers with Internet facilities which are utilized by the
students.
(iv) Recreation : For the recreational need of the students, Hostel has got T.V. in each
block. Facilities for indoor and Outdoor games are also made available. Under the
supervision of Wardens Students do yoga and other exercises to keep themselves
physically and mentally fit.
(v) Security : 24 Hrs. Security Guards are posted in the hostel.

Note:
1.Regular unit tests , two sessional and pre-university examinations will be conducted every
year by the college.
2Anatomy and Physiology –Question paper will consist of Section A- Anatomy of 37 marks
Section B- Physiology should be of 38 marks.
3.Nutrition and Biochemistry -Question paper will consist of Section A- Nutrition marks
of 45 and Section B of Biochemistry of 30 marks .
4.Pharmacology , Genetics , Pathology : Section –A of Pharmacology with 38 marks
,Section B- Pathology of 25 and Genetics with 12 marks .
5.Nursing Research & statistics –Nursing research should of 50 marks , Statistics 25 marks
6.Theory and Practical exams for Introduction to computer to be conducted as College exam
and marks to be sent to the University for inclusion in the mark sheet.
7.Minimum pass marks shall be 50% in each of the theory and practical Papers separately .
8.A Candidate must have minimum of 80% attendance (irrespective of the kind of absence in
theory and practical in each subject for appearing for university examination)
9.A candidate must have 100% attendance in each of the practical areas before appearing
for the university examination
10. A candidate has to pass in theory and practical exam separately in each of the paper.

11. If a candidate fails either in theory or practical paper he/she has to re-appear for both
(Theory and practical ).
12. Maximum number of attempts permitted for each is 3 including first attempt.
13. A candidate failing in more than two subjects will not be promoted to the next year.
14. Candidate shall not be admitted to the subsequent higher examination unless the
candidate has passed the previous examination.
15.. The maximum period to complete the course successfully should not exceed 8 years.
10. Attendance :
The Students shall be permitted to appear in university examination until and
unless he/she has 80% attendance in theory and practical, 100% attendance in
each or the practical areas before the University examination and award of
degree.
Student lacking in prescribed attendance and poor academic performance will
not be allowed for university examination.
11. Vacation :
There will be 7 weeks vacation in an academic year that is ,
Winter - 2 weeks
Summer - 5 weeks
However the vacation time is subject to change with the examination dates
from University.
The students are eligible for 10 days of sick leave.
The students are not eligible for any other kind of leave and absenteeism.
The students will be subjected to disciplinary action in case of unauthorized
absenteeism.
12. ADMISSION NORMS
(a) The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on or before 31st December of
the year of admission.
(b) The minimum educational requirement shall be 10+2 pass with passed in Physics,
Chemistry, Biology (PCB) & English individually with minimum of 45% taken
together in PCB as per INC regulation, further 5% relaxation for SC/ST or other
backward classes
OR
Senior School Certificate Examination (10+2) , Pre-Degree Examination
(10+2)With Science ( Physics ,Chemistry ,Biology and English ) with
minimum 45% Aggregate marks in (PCB)
OR
An equivalent with 12 years Schooling from a recognized Board or University
with Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English ) with minimum 45%
aggregate marks in PCB.
OR
Have passed 10+2 examination in Science ( Physics, Chemistry Biology, and
English ) conducted by National Institute of Open School with 45% marks are
also eligible to apply.

(c) Candidates shall be medically fit
(d) The course is open for female candidates only and residential in nature
(e) Last date of submission of application by post or hand is on or before the prescribed
date mentioned in the advertisement i.e. 15th JUNE 2018
(f) Application form and prospectus can be obtained from College by paying Rs.350/- by
cash /DD. In case of out station request DD for Rs.400/- to be sent to College .
DD to be drawn in favor of "BHEL SHIKSHA MANDAL A/c KASTURBA
COLLEGE OF NURSING" Payable at Bhopal .
(g) Reservation policy of Govt. of Madhya Pradesh shall be applicable
(h) Duly filled form should be submitted together with following documents:-
(i) Application form and one-self addressed stamped envelope (23X10cm)
(ii) Attested copies of marks sheets of qualifying examinations 10 & 10+ 2 .In
case of non-receipt of original mark sheets ,copies obtained through internet
duly attested by the School Principal/Self attested can be enclosed
(iii). Two passport size self signed photographs
(iv). In case of SC/ST/OBC attested copy of caste certificate from the Competent
Authority
(v) . Proof of Age as per qualifying examination of the Board of Secondary Education
Migration and Domicile certificates.
(vi).Report of HIV &HbsAg from recognized pathology laboratory
(i). Selection Process: The short listed candidates (on merit list) will be informed
telephonically by 29th June 2018 and they have to report to Kasturba College of Nursing
Bhopal on 22nd August 2018 for the final selection which will be subject to the following,

13. STUDENT INFORMATION:
a. Student shall be provided OPD treatment in Kasturba Hospital .However in case of
Indoor treatment the expenses of special medicines tests and hospitalization has to be
borne by the student concerned.
b.Students are required to make arrangement for purchasing prescribed College , Clinical
and Community posting Uniforms (2+5+2 sets) When in uniform, no form of jewellery is
permitted to be worn except small earrings. When in uniform hair must be put-up.
The uniform prescribed by the college will be made available to the students on payment
Students are expected to purchase the text books, note books and record books as
prescribed by their own.
c.Students are advised NOT to keep excess cash ,Gold Jewellery ,Mobile phones and
Costly items in their rooms. College or Hostel authorities will not be responsible for any
loss or theft.
d.Educational excursions ,picnics are arranged from time to time ,the cost of which shall
be borne by the student.
e.UniversityExamination,Enrollment,Eligilbility and other fees like Student
Nurses'Association (Local and National) monthly and yearly subscription to be paid by
the students.
f. Students get opportunity to work in parental hospital i.e.Kasturba BHEL Hospital
after completing the course and will be paid salary which will not be less than minimum
wages prescribed by the respective State Government or Central Government for skilled
worker category.
14.CONDUCT,DISCIPLINE & APPEAL RULES :
Maintenance of discipline in College &Hostel is compulsory for all.
Students are expected to follow the rules of the College, Hostel and clinical areas
failure to do so will lead to disciplinary action .
Without prejudice to the generality of the term “Misconduct" the following acts of
omission and commission shall be treated as misconduct
a. Physical assault or threat to use physical force against any student ,member of the
teaching and non teaching staff of College /Hostel/Department
b..Carrying of, use of or threat of use of any weapons
c.Any practice, whether verbal or otherwise ,derogatory of women
d.Any attempt at bribing or corruptions in any manner
e.Wilful destruction of institution /hostel property.
f).Creating ill or intolerance on religions or Communal grounds.
(g).Causing disruption in any manner in the academic functioning of College/Hostel,
BHEL Shiksha Mandal .
h).Ragging is an offence and any form of ragging is strictly prohibited ,any student involved
in such activities or if any cases are reported in College, Hostel and Clinical premises
immediate stringent action will be taken against the student. Selected students and their
parents/local guardian are supposed to submit the anti ragging undertaking form of affidavit
at the time of admission (as per the provisions of anti-ragging verdict by the Hon’ble
Supreme Court)

All powers relating to discipline and disciplinary action are vested with the President
BHEL Shiksha Mandal Bhopal. He may delegate all such powers as he deems proper to
the Principal and to such persons as he may specify on his behalf .
Without prejudices to the generality if his powers relating to the maintenance of
discipline and taking such action in the interest of maintaining discipline as may seem to
him appropriate ,the President (BSM) may in the exercise to his powers aforesaid order
or direct.
(a).that any student or students be expelled
or
(b). be fined with a sum of rupees that may be specified.
or
(c). be debarred from taking a college examination or examinations for one or more years
in consultation with Vice Chancellor of the affiliated University.

16.CODE OF CONDUCT IN KASTURBA COLLEGE OF NURSING –HOSTEL:
VISITING TIME:
Parents , Local Guardian (L.G) and visitors mentioned in the list ( to be submitted by
the parents at the time of admission to the college authority not more than one LG
/Visitor ) can visit the students only on 2nd and 4th Saturdays between 2 and 6pm .
OUT PASS:
Students can go for day spending (from 7am -6pm) once in a month on any one
Sunday (except on 3rd Sunday) with the approval of the Principal.
Students are permitted to go for weekend from Saturday from 1pm to Sunday 6pm
once in three months with the approval from Principal.
Only Parents/LG are allowed to take the students (from I year -IVyear) with the
approval of the Principal and Warden from the Hostel when they avail Day, Night out
pass and during vacations.
SHOPPING TIMINGS:
Students are allowed to go for shopping only on 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 2pm – 6pm
Shopping time should be used only for shopping not for any other purposes.
Parents /LG should accompany the I years
Students should go in group (min 3 nos) for shopping
WORSHIP TIMINGS:
Students are allowed to go for the worship on Sundays from 7am to 2pm . Worship
time should be used only for worship not for any other purposes.
Parents /LG should accompany the I years
STUDY TIMINGS:
Students should strictly observe study hour every day between 8pm and 11pm (i.e
Monday to Friday ) no mobile phones and electronic gadgets to be used by students during
study timings and after 11pm failing in which suitable action will be taken .
17.STUDENTS ROUTINE IN HOSTEL :Students should follow the following activities:
* Mess timings/mess duty to be followed by each batch as per the scheduled timings/duty
schedule mentioned in the mess rules .

Students can watch TV during weekends and on holidays from 9am to 9pm.
USE OF LAND LINE TELEPHONE AND MOBILE PHONES:
No mobile phones to be used by the students in the College and clinical premises
Students can only receive phone calls between 4pm & 8pm on working days ,during weekend
from 8am to 8pm .Phone calls are restricted by one or two per student per day not more than
3-4 mts duration
Use of mobile phones are strictly not allowed by the I year students.
18. USE OF INTERNET FACILITIES:
Students can use the internet between 5pm and 8pm on working days, during week end and on
holidays from 8am to 8pm
