the flapper wind mill
DESCRIPTION
documentTRANSCRIPT
Description:
· A non-conventional wind power-generation system that uses a spring-
loaded flapping mechanism situated around the outside to the blade of the
wind mill , possibly in resonance with the wind to generate power. As the
wind creates updrafts against the side of the windmill , the vortices shed by
the cylinder at the top of the flap-arm causes that move the arm in rotary
motion . As the arm moves, it passes a gear set on a rod through a coil,
thereby generating electricity. The advantage of the flapping system over
conventional wind turbine systems is that the "cogging" effect that plagues
turbines under low winds peed conditions does not exist in this design. It is
also far safer than blades, and we predict it will be more cost effective as
well. , but it is our belief that with a properly selected magnet and coil, it will
be a commercially viable wind-powered generator.
THE FLAPPER - The two supporting bars are allowed to rotate freely
through 360 degrees, but hang downdue to gravity and pass right
through the central column. The flat plates are fixed to the bars at 90
degrees to each other, They move from vertical to horizontal in the wind
flow and at the same timetransfer the energy to the central column to make
it rotate. This therefore is the basic concept.Experimentation would
demonstrate this unique concept. Variations of the design could be
stacked, supported in a frame, clockwise or anticlockwise rotation, flaps flip
up with flotation in air , huge blades -simple build, MW capacity. Four, six or
more flaps possible. At least four flaps are required so the device
turns. The blades go round so fast in air that they disappear. The
movement can be slowed using a strobe light or in air.
