Director’s CornerIt is now early June as I write this, and NJ is starting

to open; but very slowly. Much of the state is still closed or under severe restrictions. As most of you were aware, the pool was still not open and we had no real feel when or if we would be able to open and, if so, what kind of restrictions would be applied, ie mask usage, maximum number of people in pool area, sanitizing requirements and the like. We also had issues involving pool permits and license requirements from the town. Hopefully, by the time this comes out, these issues will have been resolved.

We just went through a tremendous storm that caused significant damage in Fawn Lakes, almost all to trees and most of those in Condo 1. Through some miracle, none hit any houses beyond a couple of glancing blows that did minimal damage.

The Board of Directors was able to meet in May to go over some things though activities are still on hold. Planning continues though, in the event we are permitted to open up in the near future. The pool is basically done, though issues continue to come up. Some of which may need to wait for a while.

We seem to be going through a period of losing long time pets. I was just advised Lenny Feather lost Yogi, who was 13 years old. Marie Twadell recently lost Snoopy who

was at least that old. Maggie Johnston also lost her dog. She got a new one but almost lost that one when it ran off when she was bringing it home. It went over to RT 72 but some good Samaritans who were driving by noticed the dog and stopped and it was returned to Maggie. I’m sure there may be others, but those are the ones I’m familiar with.

Our big event recently was a car fire on Sycamore at Bill Skinner’s residence. It caught fire coming up the driveway and was a total loss, though there were thank-fully, no injuries.

As I noted in last month’s press, the Community Board elections are coming up. The condo associations changed theirs to October (I think all three, but I may be mistaken) but ours remains on August 1. If you are interested in run-ning, please let Michelle Reichert know as soon as possible.

The critters have been especially active this spring and early summer. I had raccoons in my chimney and Jane Brown had them in her attic. We also have groundhogs around and the squirrels have been getting in homes and causing damage.

Finally, just a clarification. Any issues you have with the pool should come to me or a member of the Board. Paul Cataffo and Walt Fieger are our Certified Pool Operators.

Director’s CornerContinued from page 5

They both took the test in 2017 for a five-year certifica-tion that goes to 2022. They did this to save money for the community but have made it clear to me that they do not wish to be involved in the day to day operation of the pool and I can certain respect that. We still, of course continue to rely on them when issues come up regarding rules for the running of the pool, especially when it involves state and local regulations, as they may be more aware of them than the rest of us. Also, Paul decided not to handle the scheduling of pool volunteers this year so you should not be going to him for this but should come my way.

That should do it for now. It appears we have weathered the worst of the pandemic with minimal impact, other than being bored to near insanity for over three months!

As always, God Bless America and God Bless Fawn Lakes.

David Roberts, President and the Fawn Lakes Board of Directors

Condo IIt goes without saying Condo 1went through a very

horrendous wind and rainstorm on June 3rd. We had 4 very large trees go down. Along with that many treetops and large limbs (some as large as trees themselves) were sheared off. Our roofer was out the next day removing large limbs from roofs. We are lucky no houses were severely damaged.

Most of us moved here to Condo 1 because we liked the wooded look of the area but there is a price we have to pay. That price is a cost that will overwhelm our tree budget.

The good side to all this is that our homes were not severely damaged. We can only hope that July will remain fairly calm.

Within the next couple of weeks homeowners will be receiving a form that must be filled out and returned to Condo 1. This is needed to maintain a percentage of allow-able rentals as per our Condo regulations. If renting a copy of the lease should be on file. Also included in this mailing is a reminder of what should be followed when selling a home.

Our monthly meeting in Aug. might take place. We will be following the state guidelines.

A reviewing of rules: ALL OWNERS MUST NOTI-FY THE BOARD BEFORE SELLING or VACATING THEIR UNITS; we ask that family members please no-tify Condo 1 of any changes that we should know about. I would also like to remind people to please call us be-fore you call in a contractor to make repairs and then ask Condo 1 to pay for them. There are always to many unanswered questions, such as pictures of the damage, cause, and when this happened? If Condo 1 is respon-sible we have contractors that we use to handle whatever the problems might be. Always call us first.

• Prepare monthly statement for board and Condo meet-ings

• Keep record of quarterly amount accessed for each unit• Receive quarterly Home Maintenance fees ( keep trust-

ees appraised of those in arrears )• Keep record of each property's payment balance and

late fees• Payments can be made by check, money order or online

bank check. Please, no cash.• Prepare closing statement for realtor if property is going

to be sold• Treasurer prepares with committee, an annual proposed

budget• Treasurer also files annual federal and state tax forms

Note: Position is appointed yearly by the trustees and becomes a member of the Condo 3 Board

Condo IIIAs I work on the July newsletter some things have

begun to change on the Corina Virus outlook. We are now permitted to have outside groups with 25 people or less, with social distancing. With this in mind, I’m going to schedule a Condo 3 meeting on July 18th at 10 am in the Picnic Grove, weather permitting. We cannot provide coffee or snacks prior to the meeting so please feel free to bring your own and your facemask.

As you know, Condo 3 sponsors the annual July 4th picnic for the Community Association. I am happy to report there will be a 2020 July 4th Celebration! We will be serving hotdogs, hamburgers, individual bags of chips, and soft drinks.

As I noted in the June Fawn Lake Press, Claire DeLuc-cia will be ending her tenure as treasurer effective August 1st. At this time, we have not received notice of anyone interested in filling this position. Since we are a volunteer community, it will be necessary to hire a treasurer from outside, if no one volunteers. This will necessitate an in-crease in Condo 3 assessments to cover the cost. We cannot leave this position vacant.

Please see the job description for the Condo 3 treasurer posted and if interested, contact Walt Fieger @ 609 220-0086. Thank you.

In addition, many maintenance projects continue to be called for and worked on. The number of requests for repair continues to accelerate and become more costly as our units age. We need to cut back on our repair obligation before it becomes too costly to live here. We need your input! Please attend the Condo 3 meeting on July 18th and the community meeting on July 25th

Lastly, a reminder that Quarterly Condo assessments are due July 1st. Remember we now access late fees if they are not paid on time!

See you on the 4th!Trustees: Bill Adams, Walt Fieger & Fred Soper;

Assistant Trustees: Tom Behrens & Patty DeGregorio; Secretary: Paul Cataffo; Treasurer: Claire Deluccia

Women’s ClubJULY 2, 2020 9:30 COFFEE, 10:00 MEETING

GOOD NEWS, we can finally re-sume our Women’s Club Meetings. I

know we don’t usually have meetings in July and August, but since we haven’t had

any since February, I would like to meet on July 2nd. At that time, we can vote whether or not to have an August meeting. As I would like us to be able to vote on our By-Laws, please bring your copies with you on July 2nd so we can get that out of the way. Also, I am pleased to an-nounce Kathie’s daughter will be showing us how to make a hummingbird feeder. If interested, please bring an empty bottle of wine to the meeting. Please remember we will still need to wear our mask and social distance because we sure don’t want to have another three months of house arrest….

Looking forward to seeing everyone, Marge

Senior AdvisoryWe have been unable to have meetings, but I do want

to repeat some of the important information for you.Do you need someone to shop for you? Call one of

the following:Joe Mazolla 619-4891437 or Ester Libenschek 732-

996-5735 or 609-978-6628. I do know that several people have used their services and have been pleased with their help.

Do you just need someone to call you to spread some cheer or do you want to volunteer to call others to check on them and chat? I also know that people in Fawn Lakes have taken advantage of this program that Stratford Town-ship offers. Call Deb Budesa, at 609+597-1000 X8583. She would love to hear from you.

2020 CENSUS: This is especially important. The governor announced today that they Ocean County area has had extraordinarily little response. The Census is how the State population, etc. receives Federal help for Schools, Local Government, Emergency Services and more. SO, if you have not filed yours yet, please do so. If you need help doing it online, I would be more than happy to assist.

STAY SAFE, WEAR YOUR MASK, STAY 6 FEET APART, BUT TAKE YOUR WALKS OR DRIVE THRU thE COMMunity and Say hi tO yOur nEigh-bOrS and FriEndS. WE aLL nEEd SOME diStant SOCiaLizatiOn.

Men’s ClubHi Everyone, I hope you all enjoyed a pleasant June

and had a very Happy Father’s Day. Things are looking good for July. The

state is reopening and will continue to do so providing we follow the safe rules, wear

masks, and continue to use social distancing, both indoors and outdoors.

So, The Men’s Club is planning to hold its July meeting as scheduled. That’s Thursday, July 9, at 10:00 am (9:30 for coffee and donuts). I hope most of our members will be able to attend so we can start to plan the remainder of the year.

The Men’s Club has chosen Saturday, July 11 as the start-up date for this year’s Fun, Sun, Burger in a Bun. It will be every Saturday (Sunday if it rains) 12 Noon to 1:30 pm. A new menu item will be featured, so come on down; you may even like it.

We also would like to see if our Men’s Club Shuffle-board League will be able to pick up again. I know everyone liked the first one we had.

As always we are looking for new members so invite someone to join us at the meeting, Thursday, July 9 at 10:00 am.

Hope you have a wonderful 4th of July. Be Safe and have fun.

Grow Lettuce in Your Kitchen

Do you purchase romaine lettuce? Would you like to

grow some in your kitchen? When you finish using the head of lettuce, take the bot-

tom core and put it into a clear glass, cover the bottom of the core with water and watch. In about four or five days you will see the center start to sprout new leaves. Keep adding water as the level goes down, pick the leaves and enjoy.

The photo shows growth after about ten days.It has been said this can be done with celery also, but

you would need a really tall glass.

Even our fawn is wearing a mask and social distancing.

July 2020 Fawn Lakes Press 15

Its summer time and a great time to get some shots at the beach. On crowded beaches you can shoot the people, activities, and colorful umbrellas. On remote beaches you can look for wildlife, patterns in the sand, or great cloud formations against the water. There’s always sunrise images early in the morning. Don’t forget sunscreen and a hat!

The challenge with beach shots is getting the proper exposure. Your camera is designed to give you an average exposure of the entire scene. This is why most of your images are properly exposed. A very bright scene tricks you camera into thinking there is too much light, so the camera will cut back on exposure. To compensate you should increase the exposure slightly. If your camera has “scene” modes, use the one for snow or beach.

A great way to enhance your images is using a polarizing fi lter, which cuts glare the same as polarizing sunglasses. Many photographers use this fi lter to make the sky in their images darker (and the clouds brighter) but this fi lter works wonderfully to show the detail in the sand and to remove the refl ections in the water.

That’s it for this month. As always you can send me an email at [email protected] if you have any photographic questions. Visit my web site, www.kirmsphotography.com, if you’d like to see more of my images. Keep shooting and trying to improve your images, but most importantly, have fun with your camera.
