THE FAIRWAY CORHAMPTON LADIES’ SECTION
Issue 21, November 2019
From our Ladies’ Captain: The newsletter is reverting to its original form and will not be including the Lady Captain’s report from the Ladies’ committee meetings. You will be able to find the report on the Club website. I look forward very much to seeing you all at the Christmas Lunch on 10th December but if you are unable to attend, I would like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and all the best for 2020.
* * * Hello all. Your new editor speaking! Firstly, this newsletter will be a scary leap into the world of IT for
me, so it will be a little bit more basic in layout… Secondly, please do feel free to email me if you would
like something included in the monthly newsletter.

Star Girl Stevie Crozier-Hunt won the Hampshire Junior Girls Order of Merit Nett Winner Award, which she was presented with at the end of October. Back in the summer at the Ladies Championships, Stevie was the runner up in Div 1. On 28th October she came 2nd in the Bramshaw Junior Open. Congratulations to Stevie on such a successful 2019! Stevie is the new Junior Captain.
Winner of the 9 Hole Summer series 2019
Congratulations to Yvonne Davies who won the Summer 9 hole series,
pictured here after the AGM.
Hayling Trophy Our ladies Hayling Trophy Team is being organised by Rosemary Taylor this year and the team got off to a great start with a 4/1 home win against Waterlooville in wet weather on 24th October. Legg Bowl The Legg Bowl is a winter foursomes matchplay competition with a pair of Silver division players and a pair of Bronze players, playing as a team and combining their scores at the end of 18 holes. Our Corhampton ladies played away against Salisbury & South Wilts on Wednesday 23rd October where unfortunately we lost. A short lived campaign this winter.
Captains Drive In and Wooden Spoon match
Jackie drove off in
spectacular fashion at
the Drive In on Sunday
17th and the ladies
turned out in their
turquoise to play in the
Wooden Spoon, which
sadly the ladies
retained this year albeit
with a reduced point difference of 6 – maybe next year we will
triumph! Stevie won the longest drive of the new captains by
a long shot.
New Lady Members
We have two new ladies, Sandie Sleight (pictured left) and
Anita Sinclair (pictured right), who have recently joined us
from Wickham Park. Welcome to you both and we look
forward to seeing you out on the course!
Contact details
As we no longer have phone numbers (or email) addresses in the Club Diary (we all hang on to our past
diaries for this purpose) to assist new members, could I ask you to check that you have filled in a few
basic details on the Club website ‘Members List’ which can be found on the Club ‘home’ page under
the ‘Membership’ sub-heading. If you see from the list that you have no information showing, you can
input this by logging in and clicking on ‘Members Details’ - even I managed this and I am pretty hopeless
with computers. Thank you!
A reminder…. Linda Fletcher is the ladies representative on the Greens Committee. If you have any
issues, be they good or bad, please email Linda so she can take it forward to the next Greens Meeting.
[email protected]. The Greens Committee has recently been renamed the Course Management
Committee.
Flowers… Rosemary Taylor has asked for a mention that the small team of ladies who organise the
flowers on the staircase and in the ladies changing room would really appreciate a few more ladies
coming on to the team. You don’t need to be a budding Constance Spry, they can be very simple. Please
contact Rosemary if you feel you can help in this. In case you are wondering, the flower costs are
recoverable from the Office.
Tricia’s Ikebana Afternoon (Report by Pippa Maclean)
We had a marvellous afternoon on 20th November thanks
to Tricia Hill our resident Ikebana expert – the art of
Japanese flower arranging. Her depth of knowledge is
amazing and she’s even exhibited at Chelsea! The history
was
fascinating,
but made us
all aware of
the huge
range of
approaches
and complexities in this art. Luckily Tricia gave us a
beautifully simplified introduction to the basics,
demonstrating 3 different styles and making it all look
so easy – when we tried ourselves it was a very different story but with help we managed to create
some lovely arrangements. It was a great afternoon and we even got to take the foliage and flowers
home to put our newfound skills to the test. Thank you Tricia (and helpers Margaret Collins and
Caroline Fribbance).
Christmas is coming… Rather than sending individual Christmas Cards there will be a Christmas Wishes
Board in the ladies locker room where you can pass on your Christmas greetings and make a donation
to raise money for breast cancer.
Call Up for 6th Hole
The Management Committee have recently agreed to change the system for the 6th hole as waiting for
the bell to be rung causes frustration and large gaps developing on the 7th. The new system will allow
for members to call up those playing behind them before playing off the 7th tee which maintains safety
but also aims to maintain speed of play. The procedure will be that members putt out on the 6th green,
stand in a safe place and call up the group behind on the 6th tee. Once the group behind have teed off,
the group having completed the 6th hole can then safely tee off the 7th. If on arriving at the 6th tee, the
group ahead cannot be seen on the green, members must wait until the bell is heard or wait a
reasonable amount of time before proceeding to play.
Reciprocals
Don’t forget that we have opportunities to play at other clubs for free using our Reciprocal
arrangement. There is a file in the TV room which has details of the clubs in the scheme with
instructions of how to set up a game through the Club Secretary.
Upcoming Social Events
Barn Dance – Friday 24th January 2020
Tickets for the above events will be available from the bar. The House, Bar and Social committee would
be very grateful to borrow a mannequin if anyone has one for promotion. Contact Rachel.
