What is the College Prep Program? The College Prep Program is an immersive, on-campus learning experience at Washington University. Incoming scholars live on campus for two weeks the summer after freshman year and three weeks the summers after sophomore and junior year. College Prep scholars also attend workshops, lectures and campus activities throughout the school year. Our goal: To prepare high-achieving, first-generation students for success at the college of their choice.

What do students do on campus? Students take classes for college credit, draft a college essay and become part of a community of scholars. They also engage in health and fitness activities, develop leadership skills, and make new friends.

Is there any cost? The Washington University College Prep Program is offered at no cost to scholars and their families.

How do I apply for the program? Washington University College Prep Program scholars must first be nominated by someone with knowledge of their character, academic accomplishments and potential for success. This could be a teacher, counselor, faith or civic leader. After nominations are reviewed, application materials are sent directly to students who are invited to apply. Accepted freshmen must commit to participate in all three years of the program.

Is the College Prep Program only for students who plan to attend Washington University?The goal of the Washington University College Prep Program is to prepare scholars for success at a selective college that best matches their interest and needs. Application to Washington University is not required and admission to Washington University is not guaranteed.

The Washington University College Prep Program is a free, three-year program for area high school freshmen with limited financial resources. Participants live and learn on the campus of Washington University during the summer of their sophomore, junior and senior year. Students also engage in workshops, lectures and fun campus events throughout the school year. Graduates of the program leave ready to excel — academically and in life.

College Prep students will: • Take rigorous academic courses in a variety of

disciplines during the summer and participate in college preparatory activities year-round

• Live in Washington University residence halls with trained undergraduates, who will serve as advisors and mentors

• Attend cultural, sporting and social events on the Washington University campus and in the St. Louis community

• Learn about the college application process

We are looking for students who: • Are currently enrolled in ninth grade and live in the

St. Louis region • Love learning and are curious about the world • Can make a three-year commitment • Are talented, but have limited financial resources • Will be first-generation college students

All applicants must first be nominated by someone with knowledge of their character, academic accomplishments and potential to succeed.
