The Experience Team We’re the Experience team and we are here to create inspiring, educational, and fun activities for all the family. All our experiences can be tailored made to suit your requirements and individual preferences. Six Senses Con Dao enjoys a private and secluded setting with a host of activities on hand to entertain all ages and satisfy the most discerning of tastes. From water sports and beach activities to hiking and discovering nature; Con Dao Island has something special for everyone.

Our entire range of activities - including a full range of water sports are fully covered with public liability insurance. We take a great pride in assuring that our guests are in safe hands at all times.

Kindly note that water is complimentary on all of our excursions and some excursions will include fresh fruit. It is always possible to add additional beverages and foods to your trip. Please speak with your Butler or Experience host to arrange this.

The Experience Centre is located in the Market Place right next to Deli’cious.

Cancellation policy If you wish to cancel your tour you must inform the Experience team the day before you are due to depart – or within 3 hours for same day bookings – during Experience booking hours, otherwise a 50% charge will be applied. Cancellations without notice will result in the full cost of the tour being charged.

Cancellation during any tour due to inclement weather may result in the full cost of the tour being charged, unless due to safety. In such cases a commensurate charge may be applied.

Environment Each excursion has been scored with an environmental rating. This depicts the environmental impact each tour has on Con Dao; taking into account carbon emissions, waste generated, and general impact on the environment. Discover Con Dao Islands Into Culture Bicycle Rides through Con Dao

Take a self guided tour around the Island of Con Dao: approximately 5 kilometres away you will find the main town, the market, historical sites, and the lovely locals; take a glimpse at everyday life; ride along the main road and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Stop at the port and see the local fisherman and their vessels. Let your Butler know and a bike will be arranged for you at the Welcome Sala with a map, water and a helmet; off you go.

Essentials: Cap, sun block, insect repellent, light comfortable clothing and Vietnamese currency, just in case so stop by the market. Should you wish to add further excitement to your excursion, your Butler would be happy to provide you with a printed list of English- Vietnamese phrases. Early Morning Market Tour

This is a great opportunity to feel the heart beat early morning life in Con Dao. The town market is our first stop; here you can catch the island locals bartering for their daily essentials at the open stalls.

Second is a visit to the bustling hub that is Ben Dam Harbour. This is where all of the islands supplies come in and the ferry to the mainland. Most of the islands catch comes in here and if you’re lucky, you may see a catch being unloaded or the boats preparing to head out. Say hello or ‘Xin Chao’ and greet the Fishermen of Con Dao.

Finally we will stop for a traditional early morning breakfast. Taste local Pho or Bun Rieu in a typical food stall whilst enjoying a glass of Cafe Sua Da (Vietnamese iced coffee) before heading back to the resort.

Con Dao Local Life Tour Feel like discovering the island and finding out what Vietnamese daily life is really about? We have the solution for you.

Travel through the island with our guide, who will take you around the island, through the back roads, small dwellings and local agricultural plots that are peppered with livestock.

During this tour we will visit the following locations:

Ben Dam harbour - where the majority of Con Dao’s local catch and all regular island supplies are brought in.

Nhat Beach and Shark Cape for some great photo opportunities.

Van Son Tu Pagoda - Take a walk up the 170 steps to the islands newest pagoda.

Then we’ll rest for a while at the very same spot where the French composer Camille Saint Saens composed the last three acts of the opera “Brunehilda” in 1895.

Con Dao Historical & Prison Tour

This tour explores the rich history of Con Dao and will delve into its darker side. A series of prison systems were constructed throughout the 113 years of colonisation during which many thousands of prisoners where interred here. Conditions in the prisons have become the substance of legend with hardships and brutal regimes placing untold adversity on the local interred population.

During this tour we will visit the following locations:

Local Museum and former Governors Residence

Phu Hai Prison – The oldest prison complex in Con Dao

Tiger Cages – The now infamous prison system kept in secret until the 1970’s

Hang Duong Cemetery – Final resting place of national hero’s Vo Thi Sau and Le Hong Phong, among others.

Phi Yen Temple - where local people pay their respects to the former wife of Emperor Nguyen Anh.

The tour will culminate at same house where Camille Saint Saens composed the last three acts of the opera “Brunehilda” in 1895. Now a converted coffee shop, gaze over the bay of Con Son, while sipping on traditional Vietnamese Cafe Sua Da or Iced Coffee

There are some eighteen historical sites relating to this period for the island. If you wish to visit more, please speak to the Experience team or guide and we will be happy to arrange this for you.

Turtle Discovery Con Dao is the only place in Viet Nam where Sea Turtles not only come to nest, but also the only place where they enjoy full National Park protection.

Green and Hawksbill turtles come to nest around one of thirteen beaches from May to October every year. During this period female turtles will come up on the beach at high tide during the night. It takes an exhausting 2 to 3 hours for the female to dig, lay, and cover her nest before returning to the ocean.

Your guide will lead you to one of these secluded nesting grounds where you can witness this spectacle of nature unfold. If you are very lucky, you may even see hatchlings burrowing their way to the surface, later to be released.

A Sense of Eerie Every night a pilgrimage occurs in Con Dao. Visitors to the islands go to pay their respects to the fallen heroes of Vietnam’s struggle for independence that now lie peacefully at Hang Duong.

Visit and pay your respects at the tombs of Vo Thi Sau, Le Hong Phong, and Nguyen An Ninh who all gave their lives along with the other 1900+ residents of this area.

Hang Duong now stands as not only a memorial to those who gave their lives, but also as a testament to the will and strength of the Vietnamese people.

Into Trekking and Adventure Trekking to the Lighthouse Are you ready for an experience that will take you to the past as well as put your level of fitness to the test? A 30 minute ride by speedboat will lead to the beautiful island of Bay Canh where the adventure begins; a two to two and a half hour trek through the dense forest leads you to one of Con Dao’s most important landmarks. Construction of the Bay Canh Lighthouse was between 1883 and 1885 is located one of the highest points in on Bay Canh island at 226 meters above sea level.

Enjoy the most amazing view and let your eyes wander over Con Dao archipelago and the South Sea. Have a rest in the lovely garden surrounding the Lighthouse and meet the keepers, who are always delighted to receive guests.

Hit the High Spots

Immerse yourself in Con Dao’s nature through the forest and try to spot some of the three endemic animal species on the island. Listen carefully and you will be able to distinguish many different types of birds and cicadas. At the So Ray platform – an old fruit plantation site – it is very common to see the Con Dao Long Tailed Macaque Monkey. At a height of 260 meters above sea level, the old lookout is the perfect place for panoramic view over Con Son Bay.

For the adventurous, we can continue to hike deep into the real jungle sorting through lianas and lush vegetation through to the far side of the island. This additional trail takes you where few others go. On the far side you can relax in the clear waters off the peninsular between Ong Cau and Ong Dung Bay.

Con Son Marine Discovery Head to the islands of the Con Dao archipelago by speedboat and discover some of Con Dao’s best kept secrets. A speed boat will take you “island hoping” to discover the underwater life surrounding Vietnam’s premier Marine Protected Area.

We know the perfect spots around Con Dao archipelago where you will see some of the documented 1,493 species of Marine life and the best coral formations in the country. Snorkelling While the best snorkelling is out around the islands or the local reef (1.4km’s off the beach), you can still find the occasional something to see just off the beach. The bay’s clear water will make it possible for you to practice and get comfortable with the equipment before the big trip. If you need, basic tuition is available upon request.
