The Executive Branch

The Executive Branch of government provides leadership

for the country.

The President of the United States is in

charge of the Executive Branch.

Barack Obama is the President of the United States now.

The President is the commander in chief

of the military.

He also appoints judges to the Supreme Court.

He signs bills to

become laws.

He also vetoes bills.

Americans elect a

President for 4 years.

We vote for President in November.

• The Vice President of the United States now is Joe Biden.

• If the President can no longer serve, the Vice President becomes President.

The Vice-President is also a member of the Executive Branch.

House of Representatives

The Speaker of the House of Representatives now is Nancy Pelosi.

• If the President and Vice President can no longer serve, the Speaker of the House of Representatives becomes President.

• The Speaker of the House is the elected leader of that part of Congress.

The President’s Cabinet is also part of the Executive Branch.

• The President’s Cabinet advises the President. Cabinet members are

• The Vice President

• The Attorney General

• The Secretary of Agriculture

VEEP

• The Secretary of Commerce

• The Secretary of Defense

• The Secretary of Education

• The Secretary of Energy
