2.1 SWEAT GLANDS 2.2 THE URINARY TRACT

You have got millions of tiny sweat glands in your skin. They produce sweat- a liquid that contains water, waste products and mineral salts.

The main parts of the urinary tract are:They are two bean-shaped organs that are next to your spinal column. They filter your blood to remove waste. Then they mix the waste with the water to produce urine. Every day, your kidneys filter about 1,500 litres of blood.

They are two thin tubes that carrie urine from your kidneys to your bladder.

It is a bag-shaped organ with muscular walls. It stores the urine until you go to the toilet.

It carrries the urine out of your body when you go to the toilet.

2.2.3 HOW DOES THE URINARY TRACT WORK?The urinary tract filters your blood to remove waste products and harmful substances. Then the organs eliminate these substances from your body.

The renal arteries carry blood to the kidneys.The waste and other substances dissolved in water form urine.

The ureters carry the urine to the bladder, where it is stored.

When the bladder is full, it contracts and pushes the urine out of the body through the urethra.
