JOHN LYON ACADEMIC SOCIETY | Y7-U6 A series of academic talks by pupils Thursday 23rd January, BCH, 4.00 - 5.30pm Six John Lyon boys will be chosen to present 5-10 minute academic talks on various subjects. Boys of all years are encouraged to attend. If you would like to speak at this event, please email a title and summary of your proposed talk before Monday 13th January 2020 to [email protected] SECTION II: COMPETITIONS This term there are four competitions for boys to enter. Pupils should read through the information carefully and aim to enter at least one competition.
CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION - FLASH FICTION | Y7-U6 Deadline for submissions – Friday 14th February Flash Fiction submissions should be no longer than 200 words. Pupils should write a short story or description with a central character, who has a demanding and traumatic job. Ideas in War Photographer by Carol Ann Duffy can be used for inspiration.
Masterclass on writing Flash Fiction: Wednesday 15th January at 1.00pm in M5 led by Mrs Trafford, for all those interested in entering the competition. For further information email [email protected]
HISTORY ESSAY COMPETITION | Y7-U6 Deadline for submissions – Tuesday 24th March Pick a question from the Question of the Month display in Oldfield and write an essay of approximately 1,500 words. Judging criteria: Essays need to have clearly defined paragraphs that answer the question by deploying knowledge relevant to the specific enquiry.
