The tongue is one ofYHVHs greatest gifts to man, but it is also the mostlethal weapon. James calls the tongue a fire and aworld of iniquity

We are created with the ability to speak for the soulpurpose of praising and worshipping YHVH, but weuse it as a weapon against our brothers, a flamethat set the world alight and destroy what is

beautiful. Your lips bear the fruit that distinguish you from others and is the evidence to showwhether you are righteous or whether you are wicked and we should be careful how we useour words so that our mouths do not cause our destruction.

What you think in your heart determines who you are and who you are is revealed throughyour tongue. If you want to know someone you should only listen to them, to what they sayand you will soon know the person. This verse in Proverbs 23 says much more than youwould expect on face value; it gives us the wisdom to guard our gates. How do I get to this?

The word thinks is the Hebrew word sha-ar that actually means, opening and gate. Thepath to your thoughts is linked to openings that cause you to think in a certain way and whatis in your heart is expressed through a opening or gate that we better know as your mouth.

YHVH created us with gates where we allow things in and where we send things out. Youcan think of yourself as a city with a wall with certain gates to allow people to enter and exit. Ifyou want the city to be secure, you need to put guards at the gates to stop wicked peoplefrom entering and stop things to leave that you do not want to. You as a person is like a citywith gates and you have to make sure you have guards at every gate; your eye-gate, yourear-gate and your mouth-gate. What you allow in is what cause you to think on certainthings, for example; if you listen to rock music that convey messages of rebellion, you willbecome rebellious because you will think rebellious thoughts. If you watch movies with sexualreferences, you will have a issue with lust because you will think about sex.

You have one mouth and two ears, use them in the same manner; listen more than youspeak. Place a guard before your mouth so that you will not say things that will bringyou in trouble. YHVH will judge the hearts of man and what is in your mouth comesfrom the heart and what you speak comes from within, that is why YHVH will judgeevery word that comes from your mouth because it represents your heart and who youreally are. What are the things we need to guard our tongues from?

our tongue is like a sword you can use to attack someone with and slander is likearrows that people shoot at the innocent from a distance. We know this is true, andcommonly found among women, they fight and attack each other with their mouths.

Men are physical and will sort the issue with a physical fight, but woman are sensitive beingsand get the best blows in using words that hurt, stabbing each other emotionally.

Physical wounds heal quickly but emotional wounds leave scars that can last a lifetime. Satanknows this and this is why he urges people to use their tongues against one another. Satanused his tongue to deceive the woman and she used her tongue to convince her husband tosin. The tongue lead to the fall of man and it is the vehicle Satan uses to spread his venomamong people of YHVH that will destroy them in the end. In other words, sin is transferredthrough the tongue and that is why the tongue is evil. The tongue is the most used and mostpowerful effective weapon, and it was discovered by Satan in the beginning and first used andtested in the Garden of Eden.

You do not need to charm a snake to attack you and you do not need to convincesomeone to use their tongue for evil. The tongue of the wicked exposes their hearts and leadto their destruction, but the tongue of the righteous edifies and unifies people in love. Yourtongue should not be used as an instrument of destruction but should rather be used foredification and speaking YHVHs Word.

Once his or her reputation is destroyed, people will avoid that person and no one will wanthave anything to do him or her. That person is then dead to that group or society and pushedout as if he or she has leprosy. Lepers were normally casted outside the city to die. TheHebrew word for to speak is the word davar and it also means plague. Leprosy is aplague and is first found in Scripture where Miriam, Moses sister spoke evil words againsthim. She got leprosy speaking against Moses and she was separated from her people outsideof the camp. The learning from this that the slander victim gets treated like a leper, but the

person who spreads the slander receives spiritual leprosy.

Do not be like the people who slander and do not lower the standard YHVH and slanderothers in defence or revenge. You will be the victim of your own words and will cause yourown spiritual destruction. We are all guilty of this because we are only human. We act thoughour hurts and speak against those who spoke against us. Do not be like them and repent andask forgiveness and ask YHVH to place a guard before your mouth so that you will not learnthe ways of the wicked.

How do I deal with Slander?

Ask yourself the question; will I uplift or break the person down with what I am aboutto say?o If what I am about to say gets out to the person who I am about to discuss, will he/she

be happy or angry if they hear it?o Do not listen to gossip or slander because you make yourself just as guilty as the one

spreading it.o When someone starts to gossip, excuse yourself or say that you are not interested to

listen to slander.o Do not be friends with people who tend to talk about other people, you will become

like the people you mix with.

t is so easy to tell a lie especially when you are in acorner and have to talk your way out of it. This is acommon phenomenon and even found amongst

believers. What is a lie? A lie is when you twist the truth just alittle bit or tell something that is totally the opposite of thereality. We think there are little lies and big lies but this is nottrue, all lies are the same and comes from the father of lies,namely Satan.

If you lie you are following Satan, the father of lies and not YHVH, the Father ofrighteousness. To lie is to worship Satan. YHVHs character is based upon truth and a lie isdirectly in contrast with Him because He is the Father of truth. Truth is the highest from ofreality and to say things as they are. YHVHs Word is as light that exposes everything as theyare.

It is like switching on the l ight in a dark room and you will see everything in that room andnothing is hidden and can walk without tripping over something and hurt your self. Lies arecompared to darkness where it hides things and will cause you to trip over hidden falseperceptions that will cause you pain. When we say we are His children we need to act l ikeHim and speak the truth at all times. When do you feel the urge to lie? It is when you aredoing something in secret and want to cover it up or it is when you want to hide your weakcharacter or because you fear man.

There are five general reasons that cause people to lie:

o When you so secret sins and want to hide it.o When you want to hide your character and portray something that you are not.o When you fear man and change the facts because you are afraid of what they might

say.o You will speak lies about someone you dislike or even hate to bring them down or put

them in a bad light.o False perceptions sharing your opinion on someone based on your perception that

might be skewed and not the truth.

You sometimes meet someone and create a picture of him through your perception of him.That perception is not the full picture or the highest reality of who that person is and youcomplete the gaps in your mind to form a complete image of him. What you perceive of whothat person is is not the reality and is actually a lie and that cause you say things bout thatperson that might not be true. A wise man once said; you do not see things as they are,you see things as you are. If you have something against someone else, you will seethe bad in that person that is sometimes flaws in you. The opposite is also true, whenyou love someone, that love will cover their flaws and you will only see good things inthem.

Lies and slander goes hand in hand because slander contains many false perceptions andlies. YHVH is love and He taught us to forgive and love one another because of Hisforgiveness and love towards us. If you love your brother, you will not spread lies throughslandering that person, because you have room for his mistakes. Everybody react from theirhurts and they can only give what they have received and the people who tend to slander arethose with brokenness and pain on the inside based on bad things that happened to them intheir past.

How do I stop lying? The truth will set you free. Repent and acknowledge that you have aproblem with lying and ask YHVH to forgive you and help you to change. There might be aroot cause for your lies and ask YHVH to heal your fear of man, low self esteem or hurts fromthe past. The truth is the best remedy for healing lies and if you admit that you have aproblem, then you have almost won the battle. Repent and lie no more, learn to be like Himand only speak the truth.

Satan had these thoughts in his heart and that is where pride starts, in the heart. When youbrag about yourself, things you have or your abilities, you elevate yourself above others andis no different to Lucifer, the father of pride.

Others should praise you and not your own mouth. People elevate themselves because thefeel inferior to others and feel the need to elevate them selves. People who are confidant andcontent with who they are will never speak flattery words about themselves. If you brag aboutyour possessions it actually tells people that you have idols in your life. An idol is somethingthat elevates you to a higher state than you really are. That is why people have idols such assports cars, expensive jewellery or the latest gadget to put them on a higher pedestal inrelation with their neighbour. Pride and idol worship goes hand in hand and that is why Satan,the first to commit the sin of pride, are the greatest idol that wants to take the place of YHVHin your life.

atan comes into your life, in the form of idols (he invented) to substitute true worship tothe Creator and we end up worshipping things (idols) and feel good about it becauseof our pride. An idol is anything that substitutes your worship to YHVH. If you brag

about your car or gadget or whatever, you are elevating your self with, it causes people tothink more highly of you than they should. YHVH teaches us to be humble and not to elevateour selves and we should never think higher of our selves than others. We should serve oneanother in humility, but if you think you are better some one else, you will never serve anyone.Yshua came to serve and He washed His disciples feet to set the example and in the end Heserved us unto death. Bragging is selfish and we should rather brag about our Father andserve others in humility. Stop focusing on your selfishness and start acknowledging othersaround you and worship YHVH and not who you are or what you have.

should act, walk and talk like our Master. If you sound like theworld, who are you following and who are you imitating? Weshould not look or sound like the world but we should lookand sound like our Master Yshua. Imagine Yshua speaking

This sounds shocking and it will hurt your ears if someone really read it out with theswearwords. It is the same as when a believer speaks like this in their every day life, it hurtsYHVHs ears if we casually swear and sound like the world. We are representatives of ourMaster Yshua and if you speak like this in public, you are misrepresenting Him and peoplewill get the wrong impression of Him. Think before you speak, especially in public becauseyou are taking YHVHs Character (Name) in vane, breaking the third Commandment if youtalk like this! You set the wrong example to unbelievers, other young believers and children.Most people normally use unclean words or cursing as a result of frustration or anger and itbecomes a bad habit later on.

e saw in Proverbs 23:7 as a man thinks in his heart, so is he, andthis teaches us that the language you use reveals what is in your heart andexposes your true colours. You can say you are a disciple and follower of the

Messiah but if you sound like the world, are you really following Him with your whole heart ordo you just give Him lip service once a week in the presence of other believers to appearholy? Cursing is the fruit that everybody can see and we should rather bear the fruit of theSpirit that is; love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control. It is through the lack of the fruit of the Spirit that believers bear the fruit of the fleshthat is; anger, frustration, cursing, envy, strife, jealousy and covetousness. This is also thefruit of a spirit, but the wrong spirit, namely Satan. The root of cursing and foul language isanger and frustration that is evidence that you do not trust YHVH, in other words, it is a lack offaith. When you face a problem at work, do you start to curse and be frustrated or do you prayand ask YHVH for His wisdom. If you say you are a believer in Messiah you have to do thebasics right and know to trust and ask your heavenly Father for everything and in everysituation.

As we know, everything we do without faith is sin. Sin is what damages our relationship withour Father and if we cannot overcome the habits of sin, then we havent given our livescompletely over to Him and we should repent and really become born again.

If we give our lives 100% to YHVH we no longer live but Messiah lives in us and we wouldlook and act and sound like Him. If you dont, then red lights should go on and you shouldseriously work on your relationship with YHVH.

YHVH made us responsible to teach our children His ways and we do thatby setting the right example. If we do not live right, we actually teach ourchildren wrong and cause them to stumble, because they will have

learned the wrong ways and act like people in the world.

We should only speak words that are uplifting we should respect people bykeeping our conversations above the belt. Telling dirty jokes or makingsexual references in jest is not clean words and you cause others tostumble if you do this. Do not even listen to dirty jokes or be inconversations where people speak perversely because your ear is not atrashcan.

f you are a negative person, you will attract negativity to you because a negative

action prompts a negative response. If your outlook on life is through negative lenses,you will not see the good in anybody and will be a contact point for Satan to workthrough within a group of friendship.

Negativity is not a fruit of the Spirit and is triggered by the lusts of the flesh,people complain when they want things they cannot have. If you believe andtrust YHVH in everything, you will have hope and will have a positive outlookon life. Negativity and moaning about everything is a big flashing light to tellyou and your loved ones that you have a problem trusting YHVH. To moanand to be negative is sin because it states in the Word that everything thatis not out of faith is sin. [Rom 14:23]. We should take our thoughts captiveand think only on YHVHs things and all that is good.

f someone confronts you in a fight, you know that that person is yourenemy. But if someone greets you with a smile but despise you in their hearts, youwill not know them as your enemy. This is the most dangerous enemy because you

will not see them coming and their true motives will be hidden behind a mask of friendliness.They will come close to you in order to strike you the most deadly blows.

This tactic is known as two-facedness and is one of the most difficult things to deal withbecause this enemy is hidden behind a smile. Satan uses many tactics to come into yourinner circle of fellowship to attack you from the inside where your guards are down. AskYHVH discernment to point out people like this who want to destroy the unity within thefellowship. These people appear to be your friend and you allow them in closer and closer,but before you know it, they will stab you to death with their tongues behind your back.Everything you are or what you do can and will be used against you by their evil craftiness.

Knowing this, we should not learn their ways and it is not a tactic we as believers aresupposed to use against anyone. Yshua taught us to turn the other cheek and to forgive andto bless those who persecute us. By doing this He will avenge us and fight the battle for us.Do not fight these battles your self, it will only get ugly because the enemy is very slipperyand you will not be able to sort it out and bring peace. If you confront them, they will normallyreflect all the issues back on to you. These things are very complicated to resolve and it isbetter not to get entangled in such issues because it will only lead to emotional hurts anddestruction of relationships. Rather pray for these people and do not allow them into yourinner circle anymore.

If you have a problem with someone, go face him or her and sort it out. Bring the issue intothe light and keep your side clean with a motive of reconciliation and love. If there is norepentance or act of reconciliation from both parties, the friendship will die an ugly death.Take a witness and try to sort it out. If there is still no resolution, forgive and move on. Yshuacame to bring restoration between Himself and us and He wants us to be the same; live inlove and unity with each other.

If there is an itch in the fellowship, scratch it immediately and do not let time take theadvantage of the situation to let it rot away into false assumptions and perceptions. Repentand dont be two-faced, deal with issues immediately, forgive and try to restore unity as far aspossible for the benefit of the Kingdom. Do not be like them and do not react back with thesame tactics. It is wrong and rather avoid such people and do not to be entrapped by theircraftiness. We are all weak and tend to react with the same weapon against suchpeople. If you do, repent and do not do this anymore!!!Tow-facedness is as bad asslander and lies, but it is disguised behind a friendly smile.

What are idle words? Idle words are all the words that we have looked at previously thatinvolve: fighting, lies, slander, complaining, unclean words, filthy words, cursing, callingpeople bad names, two facedness and bragging. The tongue is the smallest of all yourmembers, but can set a wild fire alight, even hells f ire.

The tongue is to be refined seven times; this is done with a flame as when refining silver. Ifyou do not let your tongue be refined by the fire of the Spirit, where YHVH helps you tocontrol your tongue, your tongue will be refined later in the tormenting flame. Rather let theSpirit help you to do it than the tormenting flame of judgement.
