The Emergent Christ

In Jesus of Nazareth

the emergent Christ

comes to explicit consciousness

so that Jesus Christ

becomes the exemplary evolutionary person.

Jesus recapitulates the whole evolutionary process

as one of whole-making.

Cosmic unity is first self-unity;

this is the core of the Christian spiritual journey.

To participate

in the flourishing of life in the universe

is to discover first the inner universe;

indeed, the secret of the universe lies within.

When we set ourselves

over and against others,

seeking to control or dominate others

for selfish reasons,

we destroy the web of life

by the will to power.

We reject our place in the web of life

including the cosmic earth

and all creatures,

because we reject the call to love.

If God is absent from the world,

maybe it is because we refuse

to give birth to God in our daily lives;

we refuse to incarnate the Word,

to make God come alive.

Ilia Delio
