The emergence of the business of drinks distribution

The prohibition has marked very a different age in the history of America. Between the years 1920 to

1933 the manufacturing, sales as well as transportation of alcoholic products for the consumption were

totally banned on a national level which were mandated by 18th amendment to the constitution of the

United States of America. The movements of temperance across the United States in the 19th Century

brought prominent pressure on the makers of law and also on some of the states. These states had

enacted the state wide prohibition of alcohol already.

The emergence of the Great depression

However, with the emergence of the great depression, prohibition also became unpopular increasingly.

Especially the large towns started losing interest in prohibition. When the repeal was enacted finally in

the year 1933, the prohibition had already brought various significant effects. The very first effect was

the significantly low amount of the breweries which re opened just half than those which were existent

before prohibition. The historians of wine pointed out that prohibition mostly affected the fledging

United States industry of wine as a thick skinned grape wine which could be very easily commuted

from one place to another.

This opened the gates for the distribution of beverages in the whole of United States as well as other

states. People started opting for drinks distribution as a profession. There was undoubtedly huge profit

in the business of drinks distribution. Thus, more and more people started opting for this business. But

with more and more drinks business coming up, there had to be a system for regulating the businesses

of drinks. Thus, the regulations from the Government were started to be imposed on the drinks

distribution businesses. This brought this business under some kind of control. But with time the illegal

distribution of drinks also started happening. This brought the states into deep troubles. At one point of

time controlling the illegal businesses had become totally impossible. In fact the number of illegal

distributors of drinks was much more than the legal distributors. Thus, the Government has to take

certain steps for reforming the system of distribution of drinks. Although it tools the Government

several years to bring the system into place, eventually it was able to bring the process into shape. Once

the process was implemented, controlling the business of drinks distribution became very easy. Now

the distributors could be regulated easily. This gave a large cap to the illegal businesses.
