The Easy Way To Detect Car Cylinder Head Problems
The cylinder head is a crucial part of engine or combustion chamber which helps to produce energy in a proper
measurement for vehicle use.
A single crack in cylinder head can give a catastrophic experience on the middle of road or in the traffic.
How Cylinder Is Helpful To Create Combustion?
Cylinder is the core of every engine where a piston lies inside which moves up & down to compress the fuel-air and produces
energy.
But when there is a problem with cylinder, the owner should look for the tell-tale symptoms that will help to resolve the
issue in the first stage.
Number of cylinder pattern in vehicles:-
There are different pattern of cylinder arrangement found in vehicles. Standard cars have
usually 4 cylinders but some others differ from one another.
The luxury vehicles have 6-8 cylinders while sport cars have 10-12 minimum.
The vehicle with more cylinders gives a smooth ride as well as delivers more energy for day to day use.
The cylinders are arranged in different ways, but 3 simple ways are mostly used in vehicles.
The arrangements are :- Inline
:- V :- Flat
Inline arrangement :- The cars with 6 cylinders always have inline arrangements. The cylinders are placed in a row in
this arrangement design.
V-type arrangement :- The vehicles with 8 or more cylinders, they are arranged in 2 row
wise and it looks like V shape.
Flat arrangement :- The vehicles with 12 or more cylinders have a flat arrangement in place which follows a 2 row style
that is opposite to one another.
Symptoms of Cylinder Head Problem :-
Foul Odor :- If there is a strong odor coming from the beneath of engine hood, then its a tell-tale sign of cylinder
head problem.
Smoke :- If there is a gray smoke coming out from exhaust
pipe, then it's a sign of engine overheating due to improper combustion and that leads to cylinder issues.
Leak :- If there are coolant leaks found on ground
while you park, then it's a direct sign of broken cylinder head.
Engine misfire :- Engine misfire always caused by cylinder failure issues. If the vehicle user ignores it in the
first stage, there will be a sign of heavy shaking or vibrating engine.
The engine timing off is also an issue due to cylinder head problem.
Sometimes a brand new car also experiences cylinder head cracking issue if the parts are installed incorrectly or there is a
problem with the metal.
The cylinder head cracking is a common problem in vehicles as the manufacturers always mix metals in engine and cylinder
head.
The most common cause of cylinder head problem is engine overheating as the heat puts more stress on the cylinder head.
The rapid change in the temperature of engine due to thermal stress also causes problem to the cylinder head.
To prevent the overheating and cylinder problems, keep the radiator full and in proper
condition.
If the cylinder head is slightly warped, then check and replace it before it starts to cause more problem to the car.
