Latymer Land & Property
The Diamond Jubilee Dinner Dance is now only 2 weeks away. It is a celebration of the clubs history over 60 years of existence.
At the moment the composition of the attendees is heavily weighted in favour of 50 to 80 year old past and present members! Though we expected that the interest in the function would be greater among those whose longevity was in keeping with that of the club’s period of existence – the balance is not right and could do with some adjustment.
We are about to place orders for tables, chairs and all the accoutrements and ingredients that go to make for a successful Dinner deliciously prepared by our esteemed Chef – Sue.
So, in effect, this is the last weekend for you to make up your minds if you want to be a part of this significant milestone in the club’s history. The management sincerely hope that more of the younger generation will express a desire to participate in the event.
We know that you like to Party. So join us “Oldies” on the 17
th December and together we will have “One
Helluva Party!!!
Tickets can be obtained from Des Francis Tel 07930 44290, email: [email protected] and also your Team Captains
If you intend to support the occasion then I suggest that you get your tickets quickly because they are limited in number. There will be 10 places at each table. So, if you have more than 10 friends then you will have a difficult choice to make.
You could pay by cheque (made payable to Eastcote Hockey and Badminton Club Ltd.) or by Bank Transfer. P.S. If you’ve sold all your raffle tickets, please hand back the stubs and money to me as soon as possible. Des

Chair Chat Saturday saw the Men's 1s and 3s and Ladies 1s at Marlow and we brought home 7 points. It could have been 9 but for a Marlow equaliser just before time for the M1s. The Ladies in a vital 6 pointer grabbed the glory – they have another 6 pointer this Saturday as well. The Ladies 3s stay top after a draw with fellow promotion rivals PHC Chiswick. The men's 4ths and Old Boars were also winners but my team of the week goes to the M3s and a 5-1 win against a team above them away from home. Jeff I owe you a drink. On Sunday the Over 50s said goodbye to the Cup action against Tunbridge Wells. The old TV is now linked into Satellite TV and is available in the meeting rooms we can watch different sports at the same time. The bar top is being renewed bringing a lighter and fresher feel to the area. The Christmas social calendar looks hectic with parties for the Adults and Colts plus the Diamond Jubilee dinner (a few tickets still available from Des) so please note your diary. SPOTY sees Kate Richardson-Walsh nominated as one of the top 16 athletes of the year by the BBC so why not go out and vote for her to get our sport higher profile. What price the GB team as Team of the Year? A good game for the Saints saw them take 3 points and new starlet Josh Sims emerging. They are into the League Cup semi-final against Liverpool a team who keep on buying our players.

Match Reports
Men's 1's v Marlow 1's Saturday 26th November Drew 3 - 3
Hard fought draw vs Marlow The organisation for this Saturdays match vs Marlow started early as the only way to contact Steve to arrange picking him up is now by carrier pigeon. To our surprise Steve answered the door bright and breezy ready to play hockey. However normal service was resumed as he still doesn't have a stick of his own. The day started as normal with a standard warm up around the local streets of Marlow only interrupted by Skipper Brooksy's flat mate dropping off his shoes just in time for pushback. The game started fairly evenly with both teams having chances. However Marlow struck first with two quick fire goals from open play caused by a couple of lapses in concentration. This did not go down well with Lee who was doing his best Jose Mourinho impression prowling up and down the touchline. Eastcote did answer with a goal of their own in the first half, a slick short corner routine leading to a stroke being awarded which was dispatched by Thorpe. Eastcote came out in the second half looking like a different team piling on the pressure and winning a number of corners. One of which lead to the second goal, a well worked routine before Brooksy's shot was deflected into the net by Thorpe "doing a Sadler". Eastcote's final goal came after a great run by Gabs was halted by four lumberjacks just inside Marlow's D. After a little deliberation the umpires gave another stroke which was again scored by Thorpe. However not quite as convincingly as the first. The last 10 minutes saw Marlow apply huge pressure on the Eastcote defence. A number of good saves by Sprakey kept them at bay until the final goal of the game came from a scrappy Marlow corner in the dying minutes of the game. The game finished 3 - 3, which could turn out to be a good point earned against a tough Marlow side. PB
Ladies 1's v Marlow 1's Saturday 26th November Won 5 - 2
Relegation Scrap So as DOD (for being kind to Celeri and carrying her bag - poor lass had been lifted out her hi techs during the game - and questioning which hole to use) I get the joy of writing this match report. Apologies in advance, my child decided to become a devil and therefore this is very rushed. Anyway I won’t make this match report all about me (eh Whip). Eastcote were already facing a relegation battle before Santa Claus had even started his rounds. We knew that if this game was to be won we had to put into action what we had been working on and fight fight fight fight fight for our lives (based on work from Geordie Cheryl in 2009 WI AYE).

It was almost if Santa delivered an early present or what we snappily called in the changing rooms – a potential revelation and the key to future success in matches. All I can say is I got it or was it EYE got it, actually I think I is or is that EYE is still confused. So Eastcote went 1-0 up via Celeri but in true Eastcote 1’s fashion it was quickly 1-1, I think I had it or was it EYE had it, turned out no one had it. Then it was 2-1 to Eastcote via Sof the Sniffer (take that name how you will) after good work by Lassie (aka Alessia) and Philpot. Half-time………..OCH AYE, Chunky was not the happiest I had seen him but the talking was deserved – “must do better”. Next goal would make the difference and there it was via Missy - big celebration followed…..I GOT IT, but EYE was at the half-way line, how did she get the goal…. confusion began and maybe this is what led to Marlow bringing the score to 3-2. Time for MOM Philpot to use her wheels…….receiving on the right she got to the “T”, played it to Dr Milk at “90”, across to Neets at the back post (right out the coaching manual). Neets decided to play a bit of 1-2 with the GK but 4-2 it was. The final goal came from Sof the sniffer. 5 – 2 win, 3 points, and leap frogging up the table. Next week is a must win game……another relegation battle. Dr E
Ladies 3's v PHC Chiswick Saturday 26th November Drew 1 - 1
Table Toppers This Saturday, the Ladies 3s travelled to Chiswick, in another top of the table clash. First of all, I would like to express my sincere apologies to Leanne whom I accidently scratched and drew blood during an interesting pre-game ball grab exercise. Secondly, I would advise everyone to avoid announcing loudly to the whole team that you expect to fall over multiple times during the game, and then go on to do so, as this is highly likely to lead to ending up DOD. Despite some team members nearly having serious head injuries from an aggressive ricocheting football before the game, we started off strongly holding Chiswick for the majority of the first half. The defensive back line was solid as usual with MOM Delia putting in excellent tackles and the midfield working hard driving the lines. However, due to a momentary lapse in concentration and some frankly quite dangerous hitting from an unnamed ginger haired girl, Chiswick scored going 1-0 up. Despite this we never lost our heads and we continually attacked their D until some lovely work by the forwards lead to Freya scoring right on the half time whistle. After a routine half time selfie, we were ready to go again and we held the majority of possession for the first 15 minutes. A great piece of individual skill from Steph lead to one of many short corners, but unfortunately none resulted in a goal. We kept pushing, and much to the amusement of many people one attack ended in myself being taken out quite dramatically by the goal keeper… although still no more goals resulted. In the last 10 minutes Chiswick upped their game and won a few shorts. This didn’t fluster the defence
who charged them down and an off the line stop from Leanne and some great saves by Jane made sure the score line ended 1-1. Next week we face BA Hayes away at 10:30, and I am sure that we can continue our winning run and remain top of the league. Els
Old Boars v Teddington Vets Saturday 26th November Won 5-3
Jam Dodgers Undesirable journeys are more common than you might expect in the “London” League. There’s the dismal slog of Reading and East Grinstead for those that dislike travelling outside the M25, and of course there is the south of the river trudge to Tulse Hill and Surbiton. But for sheer nose-to-tail awkwardness it’s very hard to beat the 14 miles we suffered last Saturday. A fixture at Teddington at 1.00pm when England are kicking-off at Twickenham at 2.30pm is a form of torture. The captain had sagely issued warnings of the impending Carmageddon, with atypical routes and extra allowances for time being strongly advised. This advice, however, fell on deaf ears (or should that be “Def” ears), as three of the team arrived after the scheduled start time. Fortunately, the opposition kindly allowed some latitude with respect to punctuality…probably on account of the fact that their umpires hadn’t arrived either. I think we’ll apply for a rearrangement next year. Despite turning up late for the match the Old Boars did not look like a team lacking in preparation once the game was underway. In a break with custom, the team started strongly, moving the ball crisply through midfield. James O’Shea was blossoming in his new centre-half role, conducting the orchestra of passes to a rapid beat; whilst Vi and Weeksy were making merry in the inside channels* with their superior pace and movement. And Deffy was passing, which helped. The first half display was easily our best hockey of the season, with Monty and Blobby crafting two goals apiece to put us 4-0 up. At the beginning of the second half we continued our domination. Even after adding another to go 5-0 up, we were still creating great chances and double figures was looking a certainty. But this is Eastcote, and we don’t do discipline and ruthlessness…so after 60 minutes we stopped running, passing and marking and conceded three disappointingly crappy goals. Will we ever change? Although we beat ourselves up about the final 10 minutes, it was still a valuable three points earned. We now sit in relative mid-table comfort; looking up not own. Richmond at 10am this week! The league’s fixture secretary is a cruel mistress. *inside channels – for our younger readers this is not specialised TV viewing protected from the elements; it’s the areas midfielders are meant to operate in Kinky Afro

Past Masters v Richmond Rogues Saturday 26th November Lost 2(2) - 4(2)
. . . deja vu, again We travelled down to the Quinton Hogg Memorial ground for a re-run of last week’s match but in the other league, so some of the opponents this week were younger. We started well and seemed to be continuing from last week and were rewarded with the opening goal in the 10
th minute. Tim
found Dogra in space and his first time pass found Buddy, who beat his defender and drew the keeper, before offloading the ball to Addy who finished in style from a yard. The lead was short lived however as the Rogues responded with a goal from a short which beat both the keeper and postman. At this stage the play was pretty even with both sides looking more likely to score than to successfully defend and sure enough on our 4th
d short, the ever reliable Dogra
decided to bypass our normal 14b routine and unleashed a venomous strike which although illegally blocked on the line still had enough power to go in off the miscreants foot. To go in ahead at halftime would have been terrific but with 5 mins to go the Rogues pegged us back with a good move to score at the far post. In the 2
nd half we gave up midfield control or had it wrested
away to be more exact, so the majority of the play was going to be in our half. The Rogues were using their subs well and when one came on up front, he went straight into a gap between 2 defenders and was found with a long pass, the sub nut-megged the PM keeper. Worse was to follow when with 10 mins to go their right winger was in acres of space out on the edge of the D, he had one touch to control it and guide it into the D before unleashing a rocket that went in under Dave’s armpit before nestling just inside the post All 11 contributed to a very hard game which alas was punctuated by some costly incidents in defence and the MotM award this week therefore goes to someone further up the pitch and for his overall un-flappable presence and undoubted skill, and of course for his goal it goes to Dogra. “Màlmand”
Men's O50s v Tunbridge Wells Sunday 27th November Lost 0 - 4
. . .goal keeper’s shouldn’t use the ‘spin’ move
This year the O50s plate competition saw a full Tunbridge squad travel to us rather than the other way round as we seem to meet them every year in this competition. The game at Brunel was full of clichéd moments and bizarre goals. The 1
st half was fairly open but most chances went
to the visitors who scored 4 unanswered goals, despite the O50s keeper having got a ‘touch’ to all 4, including an own goal (the Chairman can describe it in more detail if provided with a pint).
In the 2
nd half we dropped another player into midfield and
held our own more, giving us better possession, but alas by doing so lost the cutting edge upfront. The half ended goalless and all retired to Eastcote for a fine tea and a few beers. “Màlmand”
Men's 2's vs West Hampstead 2's Saturday 26th November Drew 2 - 2
Two, Two for The Two's Eastcote turned up looking for 3 points on the back of a good performance against Slough. The usual latecomers Ash and Kern missing a rousing team talk by player/coach Coops, managing to convince us we may finally win whilst eating a balanced diet of yum yums and skittles. A good start for Eastcote led to a few good chances for the forwards but unfortunately hitting the post was as close as we could come. Constant pressure from Eastcote led us scratching our heads working out how we weren't 3-0 up after 15 minutes. Finally we managed a meaningful attack led to Wrighty popping up at the back post from a Kern cross. The rest of the half followed the same pattern with solid defence a building block to control the midfield and create chances. Unfortunately through a combination of some goal line defending and squandered chances it was only 1-0 at half time. We came out of the blocks the same way in the second half grabbing a second from a well worked 1-2 from a short corner with Rudolf tapping in from the P-Spot. At some stage around 60 minutes we lost our way with Craig getting a early christmas card from the umpire the 10 men left struggled with a resurgence from the visitors. A lucky miscontrol from their forward gifted them a short corner which was flicked into the top corner. Going in to the last 2 and looking like a well deserved 3 points a lucky break resulted in an equaliser and a very deflated team. DOS

As manager of the England over 65’s who have just won European Gold at Southgate let me share with you one of our secrets, that could benefit all of us who play or have played sport. It would in fact benefit anyone with issues around back pain, arthritis, and/or lack of energy.
We have been supported by “Xenca“ for the past 4 years who have recommended two products to us and which the majority of the squads are using. I swear by them. The first is Collagen and the second Five a day + V. Both are natural products. If you have a club member in the squad talk to them about it. If interested to research or buy to try, go to www.xencahockey.com Peter Crayford England GGM Manager

On Sunday, we had our first tournament of the year against two teams from Hampstead and Westminster, two teams from Chiswick and one team from West Hampstead. Eastcote fielded three teams, the Boars, the Hogs and the Pigs. All the teams did really well with just one defeat in total, the Boars did particularly well winning all their matches easily scoring a total of 14 goals and conceding none. Well done to everyone involved and a huge thank you must go to the mums and dads for getting the children to Brent Cross for such an early start. Well done all! Colin, Adrian and Peter

COLTS PLAYER REGISTRATION 2016/2017 We have simplified our Subscription rates to either an Under 13 or Over 13 rate – over 13s can also play Saturday hockey with the only additional cost of a match fee. The subscription fee this year is £100 for those U13s and £120 those 13+. This will entitle each child to attend a coaching session every Sunday from September to the end of April (details of times below) at the Eastro (Kings College Road) and play in tournaments, competitions and cups representing Eastcote HC. There will be a break over Christmas and New Year of 2 weeks and also at Easter. Please visit our website for regular updates on all information.
We are happy for children joining to attend up to 3 sessions before paying and joining the Club to ensure they enjoy the experience. Children joining after January each year need only pay 50% of the subscription.
Colts are required to register at the beginning of each season, this can be done online at the club website, go to http://www.eastcotehockeyclub.com/colts/registration or a copy of the form can be download, filled in and handed to the age group coach or Claire Collins (Colts Treasurer) [email protected]
Subs are now due, these can be paid online or handed to either the coach or the team admin person. You need to make sure your child is included in all communication from the team admin and therefore please make sure you have completed a registration form (see above).
Gum shields are mandatory for all hockey players (it's optional for spectating parents hahah) these can be purchased inexpensively from sports shops your child will not be able to play or participate in full without one. If your child had outgrown their stick our club would appreciate the old ones to help new players start. Jackie
