A SLC is a smaller group of teachers and students, working together within a

larger higher school, who build relationships to personalize teaching and learning and meet all students’

educational needs. Put another way, it is an organizational structure that will help us know and therefore teach our

kids more effectively.

What is The Early College at Center Grove?

Our Rigor:

•Curriculum changes – for instance, our sophomores will be taking the integrated American Literature and U.S. History courses. Taking jr/sr classes earlier.

•1: 1 Laptops using VM Ware. $85 on book rental plus $50 insurance

•A mix of traditional and project-based learning techniques

•Courses will provide challenging, thought-provoking work.

Honors – If you are taking more than two Honors courses, you are not able to apply for the EC program. EC Freshmen may take Honors Biology and Honors Algebra, but will take the non-Honors EC English 9 and Geography course which is referred to as Global Studies.

Each teacher designates one day before and after school when they will have “Office Hours.”

Students show up for extra help during these times.

Students do not need an appointment for these visits.

EC students must pass through a “Gateway”, a set of criteria related to our Habits of Mind philosophy, to assure they are college ready. Remediation will be provided to strengthen their skills.

EC students will take the College Board’s Accuplacer test in November of their sophomore year to see if they are ready to take college classes.

Keystone and Computer Apps are dual credits – both high school and Vincennes University credits.

Explanation of freshman year college credits

1) Students taking high school Spanish 1 will have the possibility of earning 4 hours of college credit second semester. For those who have an A or B in first semester CGHS Spanish 1 and teacher recommendation, they may enroll in VU’s SPAN 101 -Cost is $100 for 4 credit hours.

2) Students taking high school Spanish 2 will have the possibility of earning 4 hours of college credit second semester. For those who have an A or B in first semester CGHS Spanish 1 and teacher recommendation, they may enroll in VU’s SPAN 103 – Cost is $100 for 4 credit hours.

3) These recommendations will be made in mid-November.

Total potential credits being earned is 1,531 for first semester. 

Credit hour ranges go from 3 to 15 per student

More VU Enrollment Data

Freshmen must enroll in two Vincennes University classes for credit: COMP 110 which is our Computer Apps class, and SKLS 103 which is our Keystone Class.

Students will earn six college credits for these classes if they earn a C or higher.

Tuition costs are $150 plus approximately $50 for a textbook. Tuition is due MAY 11.

EC Students must commit to:

Regular high school book fees and an approximate $85 laptop computer rental.

Optional but recommended $50 computer insurance policy.

The tuition bill and enrollment forms will be mailed on April 20th.

Mid July, laptop usage from will be mailed/emailed. These forms must be returned to school before the laptop can be issued.

Parent registration night and laptop distribution will be July 25th from 5:30- 8:00.

Costs and Fees

VU tuition payment is due May 11th.

Make check payable to CGHS. Credit cards are also accepted.

Free and reduced lunch students do not pay tuition or laptop rental.

• All except three are on the Indiana Core Transfer Library.

• State Universities must accept these credits.

• For private in-state or out-of-state transfer policies, contact their Admissions Office.
