the e teamHAVE THE LEGAL EXPERTISE. WILL TRAVEL.Up to the minute Employment Law workshops, seminars and masterclasses.
You’ve come to us. Now we come to you.
To meet increasing demand following our regular seminars and masterclasses at The Ageas Bowl, Wg Commercial’s Employment Team is taking its show on the road. We now offer bespoke workshops for your HR professionals and line management, at your place, helping you to ensure that you are up to date in the areas which are most crucial to you – or simply keeping your training up-to-date with changes in legislation.
Lisa Joyce
If you don’t see Lisa
whizzing past the office
on her bike, you could
see her running past or
trying to find a good
place to go swimming,
as she has in the
past taken part in the
charitable events, Chester
Half Marathon and the
Great North Swim. Lisa
is not only an active
sportswoman, but also an experienced lawyer who
adopts a realistic approach to her work, always
keeping her clients commercial ethos in mind.
Emma Wyatt
Emma may be the most
recently qualified member
of the Employment Team
after qualifying in January
2014, but she’s already
in full swing dealing with
employers and employees
as well as presenting at
our popular seminars and
masterclasses. And it’s not
just in the office that she’s in
full swing! Emma can often be seen on the badminton court,
racquet in hand swinging mercilessly at the shuttlecock to
catch her unsuspecting opponent out and win a point...a skill
she may find comes in handy when dealing with her cases.
WILL WE BORE YOU SENSELESS?We promise we won’t! We know that law can
sometimes be pretty hard to digest so we design all our
presentations to be fun, interactive and informative. Our
formula seems to work, as take up for our events has
tripled in the last three years. We may use PowerPoint
(but not until you go cross-eyed), audio, lively
discussion, quizzes, role-play, chocolate and even
BINGO to get the information you need across.
Here are a few comments on what we’ve done so far:
TESTIMONIALS“Sarah’s advice is always practical and commercial. This
also comes across in seminars and technical presentations
she gives. In seminars she is able to get the technical
messages across in an easy to understand way and keeps
them interesting and light hearted, whilst covering legal
details and case law in appropriate depth.”
Cathy Revis, Partner
Fiander Tovell LLP
“I regularly attend the Warner Goodman seminars and
have always found them to be informative and good
fun. The sessions are enjoyable and interactive whilst still
communicating the important messages in a way that
translates to all disciplines and industries. The presenters
are excellent and the 2½ hour sessions pass very quickly.”

WHO ARE WE?Sarah Whitemore
Imagine Anne Robinson (on
a happy day) combined
with a diligent school
ma’am and you begin to
get a flavour of Sarah’s style.
With the firm since 1992 she
has a wealth of experience
of tribunal claims and a
vast array of anecdotes to
draw on, starting with the
one about the rabbit hutch
and the contract of employment… Sarah likes to bring
humour to the workshops she delivers, which follow the
style of the team’s weekly newsletter, blending her views
on life, the universe and a bit of employment law.
Howard Robson
If you spot a faraway
look in Howard’s eye
he’s either summoning
up a bit of ancient
case law – or thinking
about stepping out of
an aeroplane at 20,000
feet. Almost certainly
the former if you’re in
a masterclass with him.
He’s very focused. But if
he starts making involuntary rip-cord pulling motions, then
you’ll know it’s the aeroplane. Howard is highly qualified,
experienced and respected in the field of employment
law. And he’s a sky diver.
WHAT DO WE COVER?If it’s employment and it’s law, we cover it. In Blue Peter
style… here’s some we made earlier:
•CrisisRecovery–With our ever-changing weather
becoming more unpredictable it’s now more likely
that your building could be affected by flooding,
earthquakes or fire. Topics covered include the
importance of contingency plans; the impact disasters
have on your workplace, your staff, and how to cope
with the PR that follows.
•HiringandFiringSeniorExecutives–How to manage
the life cycle of a Senior Executive in the workplace
so you don’t end up in a Tribunal.
•GoldenOldies–With more people able and willing to
work past the usual retirement age, current legislation
around retirement and age discrimination is reviewed.
•SocialSilliness–As the power and use of Social Media
continues to grow, so do the potential pitfalls that
companies, employers and employees could fall into.
FindoutthelegalissuesaroundusingSocialMedia
and how best to avoid an online faux pas!
•RulesofRedundancy–Carrying out a successful
redundancy can be a minefield of procedures and
policies. Identify the correct path to follow when
handling this sensitive area of employment law.
•RecruitmentRoulette–Picking the right staff is one of
the most important decisions you have to make in your
business, and it’s just as important to follow the law.
Learn how to recruit the right staff, in the right way.
•BeattheBully–Workplace bullying is a highly emotive
topic which, when handled incorrectly, can have a huge
impact on the staff members involved, on your business
and on the profile of your company. How should you
handle accusations of bullying?
If there is an area that is not listed here it doesn’t mean we
haven’t already performed. Just ask and we can tailor it to
your needs.
WILL WE CHARGEAFORTUNE?Our rates compare very favourably with
other events (which don’t even have
chocolate or BINGO on offer!). With
bespoke workshops or seminars the fees
will vary but, per head, will always be
excellent value. We are confident that you
will be surprised and pleased.
Once we’ve talked about what kind of
event you need we can put together a price.
But as guidance, our 2014 masterclasses at
the Ageas Bowl were £120 per head for a
morning... including tea, coffee, pastries and
hand outs.
WHATFACILITIES DO YOU NEED?Just the space to entertain 10 to 15 people
and perhaps a kettle. We’ll bring the rest.
