BMV Extends Fee Amnesty for Unlicensed Drivers

The Cleveland Public Library has selected an architectural design for its new Martin Luther King Jr. branch at University Circle and is preparing to break ground this fall.

The $10 million library will be located on the north side of Euclid Avenue, between East 105th Street and Stokes Boulevard.

The two-story facility, which will be the base for multiple residential floors above it, will feature contemporary designs, state-

of-the-art technology and an emphasis on the legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. who, back in the 1960s, spoke at Glenville High School, just a couple of miles away.

The MLK library is part of an upcoming $300 million, four-block development known as the Circle Square project.

“We’re seeing some huge capital projects in University Circle,” said Ward 9 Councilman Kevin Conwell who represents the area. “The new MLK library will complement the

ongoing developments while, at the same time, give public recognition to the great Dr. King. I see this new library as a jewel among University Circle’s stately architecture, extending from Case Western Reserve University to the Cleveland Clinic.”

The current Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch – located at 1962 Stokes Boulevard, just around the corner from the future site– will remain open until the new branch is complete.

Construction of New MLK Library to Begin Fall 2019

The program deadline has been extended until the end of the year. The initiative only applies to a driver license or permit suspension; it does not apply to a commercial driver license or commercial permit suspension.

Applicants must have completed all court-ordered sanctions (fines or community service) for a case to be eligible for a reduction or complete waiver. A complete waiver is only available for those who have SNAP cards (food stamps) or can show proof that they are in the SNAP card application process.

The BMV Reinstatement Fee Amnesty

application can be obtained at HelpGetMyLicenseBack.com or by going to the local Deputy Registrar. The form can also be mailed to you by calling 614-752-7500 during regular business hours.

Also, consider applying for a waiver first, before requesting a reduction because once you receive a reduction in fees, you are disqualified from receiving a waiver.

The BMV program does not reduce reinstatement fees in cases where the underlying offense is alcohol, drug or

weapons-related. If a suspension is the result of a court

order (for instance, driving under suspension multiple times), at least 18 months must have passed since the suspension ended for reinstatement fees to be reduced or waived entirely.

The Fisher House project – two stately homes where families of military veterans can stay – are completed, furnished and ready for guests.

The $12 million project provides free, temporary lodging to out-of-town families who have members being treated at the nearby Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. The Fisher House facility is expected to annually house 1,000 families who, otherwise, would have had to rent hotel rooms.

The two houses each have 16 suites and are in walking distance to the VA hospital. “These homes provide a great support for military families,” said Councilman Kevin

Conwell who represents the area. “It allows a family to be close to a loved one while, at the same time, relieving the stress of having to find a nearby place to stay.”

Families who live 50 miles or more from the Stokes VA hospital are eligible for the free lodging. “Those who served in our armed forces, as well as their families, deserve top-rate accommodations when they come to Cleveland,” said Councilman Conwell.

Cassandra J. Gibson was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 27, 1952. Her parents were Anna and George Mills; Cassandra’s mother was from Pace, Mississippi, and her father was from Kingston, Jamaica. Cassandra has seven siblings and they all grew up in the University Circle area in Cleveland.

Cassandra attended East High School and graduated in 1970. After high school, Cassandra attended Mount Union College for two years and then attended Cuyahoga Community College where she obtained an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences.

After graduating from Cuyahoga Community College, Cassandra worked at Winnie’s Nursery School for 6 years as a teacher. She then went to Warrensville Developmental Center and was an activities aide for 5 years. During her career, she also worked at the Ohio Residential Center as a house manager for over 7 years. Cassandra retired in 2013 from Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities as a job coach.

Cassandra met her husband, Matthew Gibson through mutual friends and they were married in 2001. Cassandra has a son, Jayson Mills and four grandchildren and loves spending time with her family.

Cassandra has been President of her Block Club, North Park Place Neighbors for 7 years. When Cassandra fist moved into the Glenville

area, there was issues with car break-ins and she wanted to do something to get her neighbors involved. Thus, North Park Place Neighbors was formed and today continues monthly. Cassandra says that they were able to hire two teenagers to pick up paper and debris, and help out seniors with lawn work and other jobs. They also applied for a grant and received funding to install two security cameras on the street.

In her spare time, Cassandra stays healthy and active. She enjoys line dancing and bowling and also participates in the Cleveland Clinic 6 Week Health Challenge,

which is a competition throughout various neighborhoods including Glenville. Cassandra also likes to ride her bike with her grandkids and explore what Glenville has to offer. She is a volunteer at Good Shepherd Church food bank. She enjoys spending time in University Circle and going to museums and parks in the neighborhood. She attends Everlasting Baptist Church and has been a member for more than 20 years.

Cassandra stays connected with her community through participating in her Block Club, attending community council meetings, attending 5th District Community Police meetings, as well as other community events. Cassandra wants to keep Glenville a safe and clean community for all to enjoy.
