In August 1945 the USA dropped two atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima to end World War Two.

Invention of the Printing Press

The printing press was invented by Johannes Gutenberg in 1439. Before his invention the only way to get copies of newspapers, books etc. was to copy it out by hand. His invention changed the world as people were able to get information to everyone across the world through mass publication.

Twin Tower bombingsOn the 11th September 2001 terrorists hijacked four US planes which were filled with passengers. Two were flow in into the World Trade Centre in New York, one was flown into the Pentagon and one never made it to it’s destination and crashed down.

Thousands of people died in the attacks and it lead to the USA declaring war on Afghanistan and later on Iraq.

First antibioticIn 1928 Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin which was the basis for developing antibiotics. Antibiotics were able to fight many bacterial infections (diseases) that there had been no treatment before. Many people’s lives have been saved by antibiotics with diseases like blood poisoning – septicaemia and tuberculosis.

Fall of the Roman EmpireThe Roman Empire spanned across most of Europe and ruled for around 500 years. They were seen as the greatest civilisation and were the envy of the world.
