The Putnam Gardens DREAM Update November 2012 With the semester winding down and Thanksgiving Break this month, the mentors held three engaging afternoons of activities! DREAM Programming: 11/2 (8 mentees, 6 mentors): The mentors and mentees explored campus and played games on the chalkboards in a classroom. 11/9 (7 mentees, 7 mentors): The group decided to take advantage of the $1 admission on Fridays at the Children’s Museum. Matches had a great time exploring the museum together. 11/16 (9 mentees, 8 mentors): The mentors taught the youth how to make buckeyes (peanut butter + chocolate dessert). They turned out great and everyone got to have little desert before going home for dinner. Program Development: Making-up missed programming: The Harvard mentors continue to do an outstanding job programming with their mentees outside of DREAM Fridays if they are unable to make programming that week. Becoming part of the college: The mentors continued to work on the application for becoming a student organization through the Public Service Network. Culminating Experience: The mentors are planning on holding their annual potluck dinner and talent show in the community on Saturday December 8 th . Each match will cook a dish together to bring to the dinner. DREAM Office: College Affordability Training: I attended a training facilitated by U-Aspire to educate youth-serving organizations about the complexity of college admission and how to better to assist youth through the process. Massachusetts Promise Fellowship (MPF) Pass the Wagon: The DREAM Office staff attended MPF’s Pass the Wagon event at Northeastern on November 30 th to support the great work that MPF does around the state Keep DREAMing! The Putnam Gardens DREAM Update

November 2012

DREAM Programming:
