The Putnam Gardens DREAM Update
November 2012
With the semester winding down and Thanksgiving Break this month, the mentors held three
engaging afternoons of activities!
DREAM Programming:
11/2 (8 mentees, 6 mentors): The mentors and mentees explored campus and played games
on the chalkboards in a classroom.
11/9 (7 mentees, 7 mentors): The group decided to take advantage of the $1 admission on
Fridays at the Children’s Museum. Matches had a great time exploring the museum
together.
11/16 (9 mentees, 8 mentors): The mentors taught the youth how to make buckeyes (peanut
butter + chocolate dessert). They turned out great and everyone got to have little desert
before going home for dinner.
Program Development:
Making-up missed programming: The Harvard mentors continue to do an outstanding job
programming with their mentees outside of DREAM Fridays if they are unable to make
programming that week.
Becoming part of the college: The mentors continued to work on the application for
becoming a student organization through the Public Service Network.
Culminating Experience: The mentors are planning on holding their annual potluck dinner
and talent show in the community on Saturday December 8th
. Each match will cook a dish
together to bring to the dinner.
DREAM Office:
College Affordability Training: I attended a training facilitated by U-Aspire to educate
youth-serving organizations about the complexity of college admission and how to better to
assist youth through the process.
Massachusetts Promise Fellowship (MPF) Pass the Wagon: The DREAM Office staff
attended MPF’s Pass the Wagon event at Northeastern on November 30th
to support the
great work that MPF does around the state
Keep DREAMing!
