However, the most uniqueand possibly one of the most meaningful hasbeen the recent gift to Hospice of sixcemetery plots. The donor, who wishes toremain anonymous, also paid for all of theassociated title transfer fees. The majority ofus cannot even conceive that there aremembers of our community, who are sofinancially weighed down, that they areunable to even contemplate the cost ofproviding a final resting place for their loved

A Letter of Tribute to Hospice Staff (printed with the permission of the author)

Dear Flo, Taryn, Sheila and Chris,

(printed with the permission of the author)

It is impossible to tell the four of you how much I appreciate thecountless, caring, loving ways in which you helped my sisterduring the last year of her life. I don’t know what we wouldhave done without you. The experience of working with youduring this critical time has given me and my family a newrespect for the services of Hospice. When I now hear of a friendor family member being helped by Hospice, I will think of theor family member being helped by Hospice, I will think of thefour of you and take comfort in knowing that my loved one isin good hands.

Janet was blessed to have you as her home team. You were anexceptionally well-coordinated team, each member going farand beyond the expectations of your jobs. The sense of knowingthat the larger Hospice team was available and could beg preached at any time also gave us peace of mind and we thankthem.

I will always remember the special words, the sincerity, thecaring and the love that you generously gave to my sister andour family. It is such a comfort to know that both Flo andSheila were with Janet in her final moments. Janet’s fear ofbeing alone and/or choking was my fear also. Thank you, Floand Sheila from the bottom of my heart, and thanks forbringing comfort to me by sharing with me her last moments.

With this letter, I enclose a check to the Director of Hospice ofOrleans. I make this contribution in memory of my sister,Janet L. Thompson and in honor of the four of you, Flo, Sheila,pChris and Taryn and the contributions that you make on adaily basis. I hope that our paths cross again someday. I wishfor each of you the very best that life has to offer.

In sincere appreciation of your kindness,

Vera Thompson Treadway
