AUGUST 2018

2018 Board of Directors

Greetings to all and Happy August. I hope everyone is having a good summer and for those who have functioning boats, getting in some boating. My neighbor thought one of my kids must be getting married because we’ve been home doing yard work this summer. No wedding, just a broken boat. The weather has been pretty decent other than the Luau weekend. Speaking of the Luau, thanks to Steve and Michelle for pulling things together on short notice and putting together a great party. I hate to even think of it but before long fall and construction season at the GBYC will be here. Construction on the East shore and Lighthouses will bring some challenges to the club so it’s never too early to plan ahead. To facilitate the East shore work, it MIGHT be necessary to adjust the date of Dock Day so watch for details and plan accordingly. The Lighthouse project will require some creative winter storage to accommodate the equipment and supplies, so again watch for details and plan accordingly. Have a great month and see you at the club. Jim

To start, our luau was a huge success. Thanks to Steve and Michelle again, for chairing this event. Thanks also to everyone that volunteered and helped with this party. Volunteers are the backbone of our club. They are what keeps us both inexpensive and a fabulous place to be. Augusts' summer social is on the 22nd, sign up on the bulletin board. Succulent porterhouse steak, $20.00pp. September karaoke starts back up on the first Friday of the month. On September 22nd is the annual golf outing, chaired by Ken Lemerond. A fun time is always had. Also on the 22nd is the car/motorcycle ride. Paul Buntin has all the details. Well, my pizza is getting cold, so till next month, see you at the club. Gary

Hopefully everyone is having a great summer. It sure has been a hot and humid one. Always adding a few drinks at the bar. Check out the posters and give the new drinks a go. As most know Todd is in the back by himself. We have made a decision that on Tuesdays he will not be making Mexican fare. He isn’t able to put in the prep time necessary which leads to waste. Thanks for understanding this. We have had a great year recruiting new members both social and full. In order to make your club experience a good one, we have orientation once a month to show the new members the ins and outs of their new club. Unfortunately it hasn’t been attended very well. To remedy this, when a new member is signed up they will receive their gate card and everything will be working. If orientation is not attended in the first two months the card will be turned off until it is attended. Orientation is held the same night that the board meets which is the first Monday after the first Thursday. If you can’t make those nights call me (920-660-7655) and we will set up a different date for you. Finally Packer games will be starting. Watch all the games at the club, it’s a great way to cheer them on. Also this year being the optimist, There will be drink and food specials when the Brewers are in this post season. Go Brewers!!!

Grassy Island Range Lights

Have you seen the rendering of what the break wall upon which the Grassy Island Range Lights stand. It is on top of the fireplace in the clubhouse. Beautiful! The permitting processes have been completed. The bidding process has begun. The plan is to have all bids to Mead and Hunt by the 18th of August. I have seen the drawings and read the specifications. I have to say that the engineers earn their place in the construction industry. WOW! An open house was conducted at the GBYC on Tuesday, July 24 for the bidding contractors to meet with the engineers from Mead and Hunt to review the specifications and walk over the area to be turned into the rendering. It is happening! “What does a lighthouse do? I ask myself. It never moves. It cannot hike up its rocky skirt and dash into the ocean to rescue the foundering ship. It cannot calm the waters or clear the shoals. It can only cast light into the darkness. It can only point the way. Yet, through one lighthouse, you guide many ships. Show this old lighthouse the way.” I can think of no other edifice constructed by man as altruistic as a lighthouse. They were built only to serve.

Grounds

Dawn Demeny Ahoy everyone. Remember Joey is here Thursday and Friday 4-8pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 2pm for gas. The aerators are everyone's responsibility. Please check them often to keep them free of debris. They are quite expensive if we need to replace them. If anybody needs hours, there are always weeds to pull in the flower gardens. I purchased a bird b-gone product to try for the geese. By the time you read this, I will have sprayed the south side for sure. I'll see how far a gallon goes and if it works. That's it for now. See y'all on the water!

Sunshine and Sadness (Roger Gilsoul) I’m sad to report that long-time GBYC member Bill Boyea passed away. Our condolences to Carol and the entire family at this difficult time.

Boating Funnies

What do you do with a sick boat? Take it to the doc Why is boating like sex? When it’s good, it’s really good. And when it’s bad…. it’s still pretty good. Why did Pamela Anderson’s yacht tip over? It was top heavy.

Hello fellow G.B.Y.C.'ers! I hope everyone had a great 4th of July Holiday on the water. The weather has been great for boating to your favorite destination. For those of you crossing Lake Michigan, safe travels to you. Membership continues to mount up at G.B.Y.C. which is fantastic news. The Harbor is pretty much full, still room to float though and we will always accommodate a new Membership. Couple members with slip applications have applied for next year already, so keep up the great work, you all should be proud of your accomplishments and our club.

Current Fuel Price is $3.20 per gallon for 91 Octane. I am currently watching the fuel market as we will need fuel again soon, stay tuned. As you all have heard, construction will be mounting soon at G.B.Y.C., so if you have "ANYTHING " on the G.B.Y.C. grounds that you do not have permission to be here, that means paid for a G.B.Y.C. sticker, or have talked to myself or Dawn Demeny about it, it needs to be moved in the next week, or we will move it off of the grounds, so call either Dawn Demeny or myself soon, thank you. Parking and space will be essential to accomplishing our G.B.Y.C. construction goals, along with winter storage and lift crews starting in September. So, cooperation is essential. Call Dawn or I if you have a small water craft, trailer of any kind, boat cradle, vehicle, etc. on the G.B.Y.C. grounds which is not documented with the Green Bay Yacht Club. Remember, you can only park one vehicle in front of your boat slip. Any guests must park in an alternative location. Well, that's all I have for now....everyone stay safe, take care....and I will see you at the club! ......I am out!

Hello fellow members, sorry I haven’t had an article last couple months because I’ve been so busy keeping the building running in tiptop shape (or maybe just forgot) but if anybody has any concerns about the building, you know how to contact me. So have a great time boating the rest of the season.
